A cute, pocket sized combo authentic German delicatessen / German supermarket, located right next to the also popular San Sivar restaurant. serving beautiful fresh made sausages over the deli or combined with their sauerkrauts and potatoes as entrees to eat at their wee seating area (only two 2-seater tables plus a window diner table!). The deli sandwiches are also not to be missed - recommended is the Reuben sandwich. Bring a friend - you might not be able to finish, with a sandwich at with at least an inch and a half of piled deli meat inside. Expect to spend anywhere from $8-$15 on lunch (which one will inevitably have to take away part of it in a box, so that could be considered lunch and a half) Also you can buy any of a whole stocked row of German beer here, along with the tubes of fish paste, salmon paste, and other interesting refrigerated condiments and pickles etc that any German transplant must long for. In addition, for those nursing a sweet tooth there is an entire double sided shelf taking up most of the circulation space that is filled to the brim just with variants of German chocolate, and versions of Lindt candies that aren't sold commonly here in the USA. Aside from the Wholesome Choice supermarket off of Culver/Michelson, I think this is the only place outside of LA where you can buy Kinder Surprise, those famous hollow milk chocolate egg-shaped treats containing any kind of fragmented put-em-together-yourself addictively weird toys inside (from model airplanes to replica houses to even just outdated Disney and Hanna Barbera cartoon characters from decades past) Challenge the kid inside of you! read more

Went in for the Bratwurst sandwich, had heard about it, so was in the area and decide to see what all the hoopla was about. So about 3 minutes after ordering out comes my plate of sizzling bratwurst sandwich deconstructed- that is the sausage, which was very hot like it had already been on the grill for a while, but, well rendered, so not too juicy not too dry- a roll that had been buttered, my sauerkraut, and some of the best German deli style mustard available. Also a potato salad that was pretty unremarkable, but good in a comforting kinda way. So you go ahead and assemble and start eating. I've been eating and shopping here since the 80s when Winnifred and her husband owned the place. It's a Costa Mesa institution and a solid place to grab German and other European goodies. The Globe ownership transitioned to Randy and Michele Schultz years ago. They were great people who made you feel at home and made you want to return. They kicked things up a notch by getting an on-premises beer license so you could enjoy bottled or draft beer with your meal, and by adding new menu items. They ran frequent specials as well. They did all of this while maintaining the original feel of the place. In 2015 Chris, along with his wife and son, bought the place as Randy and Michele moved on. Chris made a number of improvements, on many levels. The deli looked cleaner, more organized, and inventory was fresher. The transition took a little time and was not without its hiccups. I remember waiting patiently for sandwiches as the new crew figured things out, but that was to be expected. The biggest issue was that Chris was just not a people person. Not by a longshot. I recently went in for a sandwich and a side of potato salad after seeing it reopened under new ownership. The new owners were super friendly and kind, and my food was delicious. I am optimistic about the future; I feel like the Globe is back. The sandwiches are very good here if you order the right thing. The cold cut, German bologna, and liverwurst sandwiches are seriously tasty. I get them on rye with traditional accompaniments. They don't skimp on meat and all the condiments and produce are fresh and added in the right amount. The potato salads and the macaroni salad are pretty good, prepared with what seem to be the same recipes as before. They will do nicely as a side for your sandwich, and always taste fresh. The Homemade potato salad is my favorite. Deli meats in the cooler are top-notch, and the staff knows how to properly thin-slice them for sandwiches later. I especially enjoy rolling in here when the holiday goodies start arriving. I love to surprise the family with German treats from the Globe, and it gives me an excuse to grab a bologna sandwich, some potato salad, and some cold cuts to put in the fridge at home. They keep a nice selection of European beer in the cooler, and everything is fresh, which is important to me. Give the place a try, it's a favorite of mine! Updated review 4/7/2018. read more

Honestly drove this place a million times until my boss brought me here to experience a true deli. He told me to get a sandwich and it was damn good! Everyone needs to know about this place. I finnally had time to visit this little place and now I know it will be in regular rotation. I came in for a sandwich, they had a full service deli with all sorts of meats and sausages and cheeses. They also had some pre-made potato, macaroni, and other assorted salads. I went simple - a turkey provolone on the house rye and a side of macaroni salad. The sandwich was piled high with delicious thin sliced turkey and the cheese was really good. It was simple yet delicious and very filling - I could only eat half. This is a deli and market - they had all sorts of german goods I have never heard of. It was actually really interesting, and made me want to come back and try my hand at a German dish sometime. Along with the deli, they also had a cooler with assorted drinks like orangina and other favorites, and a WIDE assortment of German beer sold by the bottle. If you're from the East Coast, you'll know how difficult it is to find an exceptional deli in Orange County. A good sandwich is not just about the quantity or the variety. It's not about the latest chain store fad. It's about the quality of the meat and balance in construction. All I have to say is that Jason and everyone else at Globe know how to make a great sandwich. My favorite is a double meat liverwurst with veal loaf on rye with no lettuce or tomato, extra onions. Amazing with a good German beer, which Jason will help you pick depending on your mood. Highly recommended. If you're unsure, ask questions. As a self proclaimed connoisseur of good eats, I must say - It's extremely difficult to find a good authentic ethnic deli in Orange County that isn't of the Indian/Asian/Mediterranean/Middle East variety. As such! discovering a place that advertises authentic German deli meats and sausages has a high expectation to satisfy. AND SATISFY IT DOES! Along with the plethora of German related snacks, this deli also offers relatively cheap priced sandwich/sausage items to quell any hunger craving. Authentic bratwurst, schnitzel, frankfurter, etc etc etc! But really, and mainly my stars go to their strudel collection, and I say this because having a really fresh and authentically prepared strudel is absolutely delicious! Solid sandwiches. The pastrami sandwiches come cold, but taste as if your mom made it for you at home, with tons of love put in it. The sausage sandwich is a total hit. I've also had the Reuben with their home-made sauerkraut and it's pretty DG! You'll also find various German candies and condiments in the aisles. In the refrigerated section you'll find a ton of different beers and jars of preserved fish and stuff (I gotta remember to get the cocktail wienies in a jar next time!). Behind the counter they sell various German meats and sausages. Why buy them from a chain supermarket when you can get the real thing here?! Since I am not very familiar with German food, I cannot say if it's authentic but a few of my German friends recommend the place to me so I have to believe it's pretty close to home. The sausages that we ordered we great. Their sauerkraut was delicate in flavor and normally I prefer a tart kick. They have a nice selection of imported groceries and beers. Not much room to eat in, so plan to get the food to go. Also keep in mind that you can purchase liquor however you cannot have an open beverage in the store. read more

When I'm craving German, I want the basics. I'm talking knocks, bocks, brats and beer and Globe certainly has everything to outfit the perfect German meal from homemade kraut to pretzels. While I was in Germany, I became addicted to having rye rolls with gobs of jam for breakfast. The jam was some of the best I've had but really hard to find in the states...Globe has it! They also have quark, which if you can find it, you pay an arm and a leg for, but their price is very reasonable. Even better, they have low-fat quark, which after stuffing myself full of meat in tube form, may be a reasonable idea! read more

A really quaint and nice little slice of Germany in Costa Mesa. They've got all sorts of cool German grocery food, but man that selection of German beer is top notch. I ended up getting a pretty solid rue been sandwich and the bratwurst was pretty good. If you have an office or work in the Costa Mesa area, I definitely recommend putting this place on you list of lunch spots for sure (especially if you want to sneak in a beer. Hahahah) read more

Everything here is homemade. The bratwurst is fantastic. The skin is not too thick and the meat is tender and very juicy. The sourkraut was good too and has little pieces of sausage in it. The German potato salad is a bit tart, but I much prefer it to the mayo heavy potato salads that most places serve. My meal was also served with two pieces of delicious buttered bread. My meal, bratwurst, sourkraut, potato salad and bread was $9. A little pricey but considering everything was fresh, well worth it. A friend of mine ordered a ham sandwich that came with alot of meat, he said it was good. The inside is small and has enough room for maybe 6 people to sit and eat, but what do you expect from a deli? Overall I think Globe Deli is great, and they even serve my favorite drink...Tejava iced tea. read more

I am giving this a two star for my experience here in the store. I came in to buy a number of products, of which there were a decent amount of good ones, but I have been in many other European stores up and down the west coast that had a wider selection. The experience I had with the owners was unacceptable and rude. I felt violated and decided not to give them my business again because they treated me rudely. They wrote down my address from my License saying it was their right to do so. I believe they were concerned about if I was over 21, (I am 30) and I asked them why were they writing down my address. So yeah, not cool. Please owners, respect your customers a bit more. read more
