Sam helped me establish appropriate pricing for Persian, Indian and Nepalese rugs that had been donated to be sold with proceeds to charity -- at the potential expense of his own sales! He evaluated 18 rugs made of wool, told me the estimated Knots Per Square Inch, type of design (Sarouk, Kashan, Tabatabaei), country of origin (Iran, India, Nepal) and anything further notable (vegetable dye). -- backstory: I had looked online for Persian rug dealers with good YELP! and Google ratings, and one stood out far from the others: Global Rug Specialists on El Camino in Mountain View. Hmm. Before I got there, I mentioned my quandary to a friend, and she said "Oh, I only trust my rugs to Sam." Sam, at Global Rug. Hmmm. Interesting coincidence. Then I visited another pal to pick up some donations and shared my quandary. Again, the person said -- unprompted -- "Oh, go to Global Rug and ask for Sam." Triple Hmmm. I arrived at Global Rug, unannounced and with no appointment. A man named Sam was very welcoming as he listened to my plight: "I have Persian rugs that were donated to sell to benefit refugee resettlement. But I don't know how to sell them or what to charge for them. And I realize I'm suggesting sales that compete with you." Without hesitation, Sam Nejad invited me to bring the rugs to his store and said he'd give me an on-the-spot estimate. (Not an appraisal -- because those cost $$$ -- but a quick estimate for used rugs from a knowledgeable professional who has earned great reviews as well as loyalty from friends I trust.) And then he suggested a price. Wow. That seemed too easy! I said I had a few more rugs that needed evaluation, and he was very welcoming. My own lovely (although not super expensive) 10x12 foot Persian rug needed a cleaning, so why not try Sam out myself? It had been 5 years since the last cleaning and showed evidence of my cat's affection. It would need a cleaning and a shaving. Since Sam performed his magic, not only is my rug brighter and more vivid, but you can't even tell we have a cat who loves the rug as much as we do. I'm sold! But now I'm still stuck with my quandary of how to sell these donated rugs? These are not "yard sale" items - the prices will start at $200 and to up to $7,000. Ideas?? (Sam advised me that some rugs need attention on the fringes or elsewhere, and all rugs should be inspected carefully for any moth damage. But these rugs are beauties!) It was very simple to have my oriental rug cleaned. The owner came to pick it up and neatly rolled up the rug and the pad for me and then returned it in a couple of weeks. Thrilled with this service. They cleaned three rugs for me and every single one of them came back looking more beautiful than I could have imagined. They also repaired the fringes, as the frings had been damaged by my vacuum cleaner on multiple occasions. Above all else, I am beyond impressed with how well they were able to repair a part of the rug that had been chewed away by my dog. There was a fairly large portion of rug missing at the border (at least 2"x1") and I didn't think it could be fixed. The specialists explained why it was important to try the repair, and they gave me a very fair price. The repair looks beautiful. The rug is a family heirloom and has great sentimental value to me. We paid a very good amount of money to have our rug cleaned because it is an expensive rug. One third of the rug was destroyed. It has been brushed so harshly that the threads have gotten loose. Having used Global Rug Specialist 3 times now for cleaning, repairing, and re-dyeing, I can positively recommend their excellent service and expertise!! On the last occasion, Sam went the extra mile and met me at my home to give me his third party evaluation of a 20 foot long runner that I was considering purchasing for my back hallway from a consignment store in Menlo Park. (Not even his store) He instantly knew where (I can't remember and will have to call him) and how it was made (by hand) and it's approximate age (about 70 years old) verifying the store's information. He also gave me a fair market value and appraisal value for insurance purposes which gave me the confidence to go ahead with purchasing the runner as it was the exact size I needed at an exceptionally good price. However, the runner was absolutely filthy and worn thread bare in many places. Given my previous good experiences with Global, I trusted that Sam and his associates would be able to restore it to it's former Downtown Abbey-esc luster. The results far exceeded my expectations! Now I have a beautifully restored, vibrantly clean, heirloom quality runner. Thank you Sam for turning my steal of a deal into a treasure! In summary, don't be turned off by the one bad review. I am very pleased with the work done by Global Rug Specialists. We had a number of Persian and Chinese rugs, some of which had been in storage for years and others which saw daily use over the years. When we decided to move we wanted to get all of our rugs cleaned and repaired so we could display and use them to good effect in our new home. Sam evaluated each rug and provided detailed estimates on what each rug would need. His crew brought each rug back to life and he agreed to store each rug (11) for several months until we were ready to move into our new home. Had 2 roughly 8 x10 foot oriental rugs cleaned here. This was the first time in like the 15 years that I owned them that they finally got clean. Very nice job. I have dogs and no doubt there were some potty marks which they got out. It did take 2 1/2 weeks to clean both rugs but I was in no hurry. Only down side is price also the fact they charged my credit card weeks before the actual rugs were delivered back to me and hence the one star off.....Most businesses charge when the job is complete. Well anyway, With scotch guard and cleaning it ran $560 for both rugs. As I've learned in life.. in general you get what you pay for: Global did an outstanding job so its worth the money. read more

I was delighted with the result when I unfolded my 5 x 7 handmade wool Tibetan rug. It had been two years since the last professional cleaning of my entry hall rug which had spots from my dog vomiting on it and of course the traffic and wiping of shoes when one enters the home. The cleaning of the rug was superior to prior cleanings by other service companies and I could see that better care had been provided in the washing and drying techniques as the wool fibers and fringe on ends just looked so much better. And the cost was comparable with other services, actually I thought the cost (less than $100) was great for the quality of service. Sam and Jasmine were professional and courteous. I was informed that the typical time line is one to two weeks from date of drop off (pickup and delivery service is available for a fee). I suggest you allow for a minimum of ten days as one week was not realistic in my case. Perhaps the season and drying temperatures during the year may influence turn around time.
