I had not ridden a bicycle in a decade when I dropped into Glenview Cycle and I wanted resuscitate a cheap hand me down department store bike. They were completely fair in their appraisal and did not pressure me to purchase a new bike in place of the garish jalopy I had dragged in. During the course of the tuneup it was determined that old mountain bike had sustained additional hidden damage. It was great not to be given the hard sell but an honest breakdown of the costs involved. it made no sense to fix the old bike and the next logical step was to purchase a new bicycle from the local bike shop that had provided such great service. read more

I took my bike in for a tune up in late March. The first in about 15 years. I met Alan and Dan who were helpful and friendly and I knew I picked the right place. Shortly after I picked up my bike I started having issues. I took it back and they graciously took a look and fixed the issue... for free. Not caring whether the issue was their fault or not. Just wanting to get my bike back in working order. I ran into two more issues. I couldn't believe my bad luck. Thankfully they quickly and expertly helped me with these as well. I live in the Chicago neighborhood of Edgebrook and have a bike shop within walking distance which, due to past experience, I chose to avoid. In searching Yelp I came across Glenview Cycles. They were great. Dan stopped what he was doing to look at my carbon fiber bike, figured out the occasional clicking sound and made the fix on the spot. I will be back. Went there after a friend recommended them, as I was looking for a bike for my son, who has been extremely hesitant about riding a bike. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. He found a bike right away and they put on training wheels for us. When we got home he was having an incredibly difficult time getting up even the smallest incline. I chalked this up to him learning how to pedal until things didn't improve over the next couple of days. Upon further inspection, I noticed that both tires were underinflated and the brake was rubbing up against the tire pretty significantly. After having put on training wheels, I would hope a shop that has the reputation it has would be checking these things. Fortunately, my son persevered through it and is doing better once I adjusted these things. I would give them another try but not the best first impression. read more

Stopped in late one evening after getting off train and they installed right there in under 15 minutes. Prices are very reasonable and service is excellent. I'm a competitive cyclist and own high end bikes, custom build from the frame up. I had these guys build my Cyclocross bike over the winter. Max did the build and everything was done on time, very professional and quality build. They recommend the right parts and know their stuff. Very cool about last minute stuff too - whenever I call about an adjustment or quick tubeless setup, they have time and don't make you make an appointment a week from now. New Bikes, new tune ups, this place is great. It's right near my sisters house and that is where we lived for the summer while our house was under construction. Anyway, bought bikes here two years ago for my husband and myself and since the place was so far away, we never got back to get our free after new purchase tune up. And here 25 months later, I figure it was too late. And it was... but they did the two tune ups regardless. What's more, when it was done you would have thought they would be trying to make some money off me with the muct replace spokes speech... or the grooved gears speech... but nothing. They said thanks for the business, everything is free of charge. Just like they said, I knew I chose this place for a reason. I took off a star only because they couldn't find my purchase anywhere. o k , here's a senior review. I stopped at the shop to buy a pair of pedals for my old raleigh bike & brought them home to change them myself. big mistake , no matter what i did they would not loosen up for me. I removed the front tire & put the bike in the car to have the shop do it for me. It was pouring rain when i got there , one of the guys ran out to take the bike out and bring it in for me , changed the pedals , made sure everything was working ok , and put it back in the car in the pouring rain.....they would not let me do it. on top of all that they gave me a really good price & i didn't even ask for a senior discount. this is how you make customers for life......thanks again guys........Jack H read more

I had three broken spokes on my rear tire. I was told that i needed a new rim and the spokes could not be replaced. Due to the fact that the integrity of the rim was comprimised. I went to another shop and I am getting the spokes replaced no problem. Maybe they needed to give more explanation as to why they thought the rim was ruined from just looking at it for all of 45 seconds. I was not ready to instantly drop $75.00 on a new rim. I do not know if it was just easier to say that or they wanted an up-sell, but all I know is that I am getting my spokes fixed , tire trued at another shop for 30.00. Not very happy with how matter of fact the whole interaction went. read more

My friend and I stopped in here on our way back from a 50 mile ride on the DPR in need of a bathroom and water refill. The guys who work here were really accomodating and friendly to some (muddy, sweaty) cyclists in need. This is the place I had to when I have any issues with my bike. They got me set up with my first pair of bike shorts which helps my chafing so much. They put on new tires and inner tubes on my bike. They wrapped up my handlebars with compression tape. They put a mirror on my handlebars. They replaced my girlfriends broken mirror. The employees are always friendly. The manager/owner is also very helpful with any needs or questions that you might have. Beyond that they go above and beyond to share personal knowledge and helpful advice to novice bikers like myself. If ever you find yourself on the North Branch Trail in Glenview definitely make it a point to stop by if you are in need of any assistance with your bike. There is an ice cream parlor next door should you feel like indulging your sweet tooth on a hot summer day while your bike is being taken care of. read more

I came in here because I had a Groupon for a tuneup, and in the end had my bike completely overhauled and updated. The staff was friendly, patient, knowledgeable and unbelievablly helpful. I took my multispeed road bike in, I had bought it online, and it was not completely built. I live in Chicago and it takes 2-3 weeks to get a shop to build and tune a bike because all the shops are really busy, but these guys told me they could have it ready in a few days so I brought my bike here. I received my bike 2 days later. I brought the bike home and as soon as I started riding my bike I noticed my left hand shifter was off but I don't shift too much, I tend to ride fast so I didn't think much about. About 125 miles later my shift/brake lever breaks and I have to get a new crank, chain, along with shift/brake lever. I wish I had waited longer, and it would've also been cheaper in the city. Went there to get a simple repair for my bike last month. The guy was not friendly when he greeted me. Also I felt he was not totally open with me as he charged me extra for service charge, he quoted me a price that sounded like the final price at the time, but when it came time to pay, an extra 8 dollars was added, asked him why the charge, he said oh it's service charge. That left a bad taste. For that and the greeting, I am deducting 2 stars. I live close to 2 other bike shops all about same driving time, I will check the other ones out before going back to this one. read more

These guys are terrific! Brought my bike in at the very last second for a tune up before the Chicago Triathlon. They got the tune up done and made some incredibly helpful suggestions...the best being changing to narrower tires what a difference! They have provided me with excellent service for the last three years since we moved to the Glenview area. Mr. Rubin and his staff are alway very accommodating and their prices are fair and competitive. For the last three years, they have packed and shipped by bike when we go to Florida for the winter time. They have always done a super job of packing as well if not better than any new bike is packed. They even wrap all of the painted surfaces, handle bar and cranks in bubble wrap secured with tape. Pedals and other loose parts are placed in a small box so that don't bounce around. They get five stars for packing and shipping bikes!!!! read more
