Not only is the coffee drinks excellent (they use Noblehouse Coffee out of Ashland, OR), but their pastries are top notch. The cafe is a spacious place with lots of fun merch, games to play, and a nice spot to sit and work or chat with a friend. The service was great and they helped me make good choices on what to get. I couldn't resist trying one of their specialty drinks, the Maple Lavender latte with orange zest. When I went to sip this beautiful drink I also breathed in the fresh orange zest scent. This is one of the best latte's I've ever had. The flavors go together so beautifully and I wish I could have this every day. For pastries, I tried their cheddar scallion scone and their apple turnover. The cheddar scone was like no other scone over had. It was so light, cheesy and fluffy. The apple pastry was also amazing. We entered the fish shop / restaurant and it was busy, there's only about seven tables and a middle counter top area. No one greeted us and the tables were full so we just grabbed a seat at the middle counter top area. After five minutes I grabbed some menus, five minutes more and I went to the counter to order. After 5 minutes at the counter a woman asked if I was ordering food to go ( now this is my first contact with an employee in about 20 minutes of being there). I informed her that we were sitting at the counter and she said she would be over in a minute to take care of us. We ordered (finally) the fish and chips and a bowl of the clam chowder. Twenty minutes later a different woman dropped off the food and left; no conversation or can I get you anything else? The food was fresh and delicious, we throughly enjoyed it and when we were finished we waited another twenty minutes to pay; we finally went to the counter. On our way out the woman who took our order thanked us and said have a nice day. There were three or four woman working the counter and tables but the communication was just not there. The coffee menu had plenty of unique syrup add-ons and flavor combinations, and the bakery selection was surprisingly diverse. The location is easy to find, with plenty of parking right out front, which was especially convenient on a busy holiday.Given how crowded it was, we did have to wait a little while to find seating, but that's understandable for a holiday when it seemed like half the town had the same idea. We didn't necessarily do much when we were in Brookings, Oregon, but we did stop by Compass Rose Cafe and it was one of the best steps yet. They are a smaller cafe so you can expect to wait for a table on the weekend. We originally opted for the food to go because we weren't sure if there would be a table available, but things worked out and we were able to eat here surrounded by all the whimsy knick knacks. I opted for the half size biscuits and gravy with an added patty on top and my husband opted for their monster burrito. Both entrees had great flavor and the staff was very hospitable and friendly. There is plenty of street parking and they also have a small parking lot available. Overall, Compass Rose Cafe is worth a stop if you're in the area and want to relax with some good food!
