I was craving a real donut shop donut, and they did not disappoint. I got 2 (just in case). While I should have only eaten 1 of them I just didn't... I ate both. I'm torn about writing this review because there is truly a master of craft at work here and I can appreciate the commitment it takes to deliver a high quality product. But as good as it is, technical ability doesn't makeup for poor hospitality. We come up to Brookings from the Bay Area a couple of times a year to relax at the Beachfront Inn with the dogs. Usually it's the perfect break from our daily grind and Honey Bee is usually a highlight. We had lost one of our pups a few weeks ago so this trip was special. We knew they were closed on Tuesday and Wednesday so my wife ordered online the night before and we left at 5am Monday to be sure to make it before 2pm. The plan was simple: Drive up early, Stop at Honey Bee, then to Fred Meyer for essentials and then check-in at Beachfront. But I screwed up, I didn't factor in how long charging the car would take along the way. Uh oh. 4 hours in we realized we were running behind so we sent a text message to honey bee asking them to hold the order because we knew that the cut off for order pick up was 12pm, but if we hurried we'd make it by the time they closed at 2pm. So we gunned it! It was like a rally race from Eureka up as we watched the ETA display read 2:01 to 1:59 and back to 2pm. My wife finally had to keep track of the time so I could focus on speeding along the coastal highway in a downpour. Not my finest moments, but we made it! 1:58 we pulled into the awkward parking lot at Honey Bee. Success! Not so fast. My wife jumped out of the car and as she opened the door an employee approached and started to pull the door back closed. My wife, being super polite, told the woman she understood they were closing but she had an order to pick up. The woman said she couldn't help her - closed the door, locked it and walked away. Not wanting to impose she didn't push it. It's not in her nature. I'm less understanding. I got out of the car and knocked on the door, No answer. I called 3 times, no answer. I thought, "If they only knew what we had just gone through, they'd give us our order!" As if we had to prove to them that we were worthy of their business! It's like that episode of Seinfeld with the soup. Crazy! Anyway - Honey Bee gets our $21. We get nothing. Life goes on. We won't be back. Easy peasy. I'll wrap with 2 things: To the lady who closed the door on my wife's face. Do better. I know you can. And lastly, for any aspiring bakers out there with a modicum of skill, there is a huge business opportunity in Brookings, OR. read more

Bought 6 donuts yesterday. Mango and ginger scones are my fave. It was over baked and very dry. So was the bran muffin over baked. Not enough apples in fritter. Maple cream donut and chocolate cruller was good. We usually buy donuts about every three months not as often like we use to. Hope next time it'll be better. read more

Nice little bakery. However, it's only open 3 days a week. Why not all week? People like fresh doughnuts every morning. Whenever I go, most of the donuts are gone. Soooo...I thought maybe if I go on a Sunday, I might have a chance. They were almost sold out of donuts again. I guess I need to wake up at 6 am to get a donut? I picked out a cream filled donut to share with my daughter. It was kinda pricey, but really good. Not too sweet where your teeth fall out, but sweet enough to notice. We were driving through town and planned to stop for coffee, but I craved baked goods all of a sudden and googled bakery. This place popped up right next to where we stopped for gas - it was kismet! I couldn't decide between sweet and savory so I got one of each, and a cup of coffee. The maple bacon bar was perfect with my coffee, and the jalapeño pepper jack croissant fulfilled my need for salt. Great little shop with a fun assortment of baked goods, it was a tough choice. Here's the dilemma with Honeybee. The doughnuts are sooooooooo good that they are snatched up as soon as I get home, hence, no pictures outside of the case while I'm standing in line. This business has the BEST doughnuts that I have ever had. They are fresh, pillowy, and amazing. My favorites are the cronut, Apple fritter (it's enormous and so freakin' good), the pesto Pinwheel, and whatever other mixture I order for my family. And their bread is awesome!! My most recent visit was a terrible experience. I bought several different pastries and brought them home. The first two I tried had a strange ammonia-type smell to them on the inside. After the first one was like that I thought maybe the second would be different, but it wasn't. At that point I drove back to the bakery with the pastries. I had only touched the two and brought back the others whole. The person at the counter seemed to immediately recognize the issue as the pastries being underbaked. Despite this, however, they would only offer refunds for the two that we had actually tasted. I had no reason to believe that the other pastries were worth eating which is why I brought them back. Refusing a full refund in this situation is bad customer service. I will not be returning to this bakery. Update: In response to the owner's response: I can assure you that both my partner and I smelled ammonia in both items. Based on that, we did not want the rest of the items we had purchased. A simple full refund would have been the right thing to do, and we would have returned several more times over the week had that been the case. Instead, you are still being arrogant by telling us that you'll still sell out everyday. Mistakes happen with baking, but your approach to customer service is appalling. My family lives in Brookings and we've already started talking to others. Word spreads quickly in a small town. You would do well to treat customers with respect. read more
