Admittedly I have not yet sampled mine (SHARP CHEDDAR CHZ plz!), but this local Redwood producer has been "celebrating responsible stewardship" of milk commodities by developing healthy relationships that foster "collective competitive advantage" while making organic butter & cheese since 1919. Sustainability that's sure to please producers as much as consumers! Fill your lunchbox with fresh chz (+ marionberry COW JAM, blackberry BIGFOOT TOE JAM) at the nearest WHOLE FOODS, FRESH THYME, SPROUTS & more ASAP! Rumiano Cheese - OPEN! - Cheese Shops Near Me - Crescent City, California

Discovered this business looking at Maps on my phone; I have to admit I completely missed this previously. Fabulous cheese from a century-old business! Most are organic, and very reasonable prices considering the quality. A number of specialty food items that are good accompaniments to the cheese. Looking forward to working these into my regular snacking routine! read more

I love the Cheddar with Horseradish and the Dry Jack cheese... We had one day in Crescent City to shop; unfortunately it was Saturday and there were no cheese curds. read more

I love creameries. Rumiano makes quality commercial organic cheeses. My only disappointment is that they another small company purchased recently by a larger company. Crescent City needs businesses to flourish and provide a uniqueness to offer people, like myself, a place to visit. Hope they stay and continue to offer the same quality or better! read more

Snacks , fantastic cheeses , butter , all gourmet, some organic . All fresh and fantastic. You will have to come back.

I live in Crescent City and Rumiano's is my "go-to" place for cheese gifts for friends and relatives when I go to visit them and want to treat them to something unique and special from where I live! The factory prices are amazing! My total is always less than expected and you can't beat the high quality and taste! read more

Excellent cheese and butter , I would highly recommend the dry Jack. The organic cheddar is also very tasty

The family and I were vacationing in the Crescent City area and happened upon this fantastic cheese shop by accident. It's easy to miss as it's in a residential neighborhood. It's not very big inside but oh boy what a great selection! There are many organic and grass-fed options sourced locally that are well-priced! Samples were offered to entice customers and if you leave empty-handed you are probably a Kraft singles kind of person! The shop also sold Crescent City jellies and jams. All the flavors are delicious, not too sweet and very generous with the fruit. Wonderful as gifts and gifts to self! The women at the counter were very nice and helpful. I will return to this shop whenever we're in the area. read more

The 5lb block of Rumiano smoked cheddar arrived with this white substance on each of the six sides. Still "in date", and in original packaging. I've reached out to the company with multiple emails, and phone calls leaving messages, but no response. As it is a hard cheese, I removed the outermost 1". Tasted what was left of the block and it was sour. Very disappointing. read more

Worth the stop if you like cheese! They give tastings (just ask), and there is a window into the factory. The woman working there was kind and patient even though we came near closing rush. She even pulled up a step stool for my curious son to look through the window. The house-brand cheeses are so good! Smoked mozzarella, pepper jack, fun spicy blends with Korean and jalapeño blends. Plus basics like a near-parmesan, plain mozzarella, and jack. They also offer other brands of small production cheese, jams, sauces, eggs, and other locally produced items. I love supporting local businesses when I go on vacation, especially local food producers. read more

Best dry jack cheese ever!!! Visited the little store a few years ago while traveling down the coast. Now we order the cheese by the 8lb wheel. Also, our Natural Grocers here in Colorado carry several of their cheese in 12 oz read more

There is a wide selection of cheeses here and other various items like jam. They have a few cheeses to sample and the best tasting one that I had was the cheese that tastes like pizza (forgot what the name was). Definitely need to check this place out if you like cheese. read more

Great selection of cheeses and super friendly customer service. We were vacationing in the area and this was our first visit. Went back two more times and got cheese curds (garlic & regular). Both were excellent! Also picked up some salami which was also great. Will definitely go back again! read more

Quaint and beautiful place to visit. Great deals on cheese. Welcoming staff. I recomend every bodyt to check it out.

Small town, family owned cheese makers, I just couldn't pass it by. On a very rainy day, I got a brief story and a tour through their glass window into their production line. There was only one retail person at the time, so she literally left her register for about 5 minutes to show me around. Awesome service. So they only make the initial part of the cheese here at the Crescent City location. Where they take it from local milk and turn it into solid curds, which are then formed into blocks. It is then shipped to their other plant where each block can be flavored/aged accordingly to what each cheese will eventually be. They also don't do a whole lot of aged cheese here, but they do have one aged or "dry" Jack. So a Monterey Jack which is usually creamy, when aged for over a year, all that moisture evaporates away, leaving a hard dry cheese much like parmesan. It was the most unique and complex thing I tasted there. And speaking of tasting, there are over 20 cheeses to taste, via tiny cubes and toothpicks. Most are flavored cheeses as it is something Rumiano is really fond of. Pepper Jack is one of the best versions I've ever had. They even have a habanero, a black peppercorn, an olive, even a Korean inspired one gochujang is my guess. (I didn't try that one) So in their coolers, all their cheese are able for purchase in retail packages. But here, you will only pay wholesale prices as you don't have to pay for a "store's" markup. And some of the popular stuff, you can buy the "ends", which is a by-product of them slicing the cheese and having the ends as leftovers. So it is just square hunks of cheese just stacked on top of each other. So if you're just gonna chunk it up or grate it this is your best buy, as it is only $2.50/lb. Ain't gonna find a cheese of this quality at that price anywhere else. I ghee-ran-tee. I ended up taking a little over 2 pounds of cheese, one being the Dry Jack which is more pricey due to the aging. All for a little over 12 bucks. What a score, in an impromptu field trip where I was able to learn something. An uncontested fiver. read more

Rumiano Cheese - Looking Into Their Production Line - Cheese Shops Near Me - Crescent City, California

Very descent cheese. I like their fried cheese curds offered at many local restaurants as a major appetizer item. The price is good and the store has variety of cheeses locally made. I strongly recommend this place for cheese shopping. read more

Affordable and very well-made cheese. I was just a bit disappointed because I thought there would have been more specialty cheeses. I mainly saw Monterey Jack, cheddar, pepper jack... a lot of jacks. Nevertheless, I liked the special infusion flavors that they had. Horseradish and haberno pepper jack were my two favorite. They also had smoked Gouda with the right texture. All the cheeses were half the price of what I normally pay for in Southern California. Was very happy to visit this cute-many-awards-winning local cheese shop. The cheeses complemented the Oregon wines that we got on our way to Crescent City. read more

Brought in by SeaQuake Brewing, they use Rumiano cheese curds for their Fried Cheese Curds. Bought some garlic curds, and havarti, both were great! The cashiers were very helpful and kind. Loved how it was connected to the factory and had a see through window so you could watch some cheese being made! Lovely little store honestly read more

Great service and tasty cheese! Glad we stopped in, just wish we would have purchased more! Very reasonably priced too!

Good selection of cheeses and some flavored butters. I got a great deal on cheese curds too!! Not a tourist trap but a great cheese shop

This is a great family run local business. They make the best Pecorino Romano, which I use all the time. Since Covid I haven't been taking the 90 minute drive to Crescent City as much, so I called and asked if they mail. They do! They were so helpful and he cheese came packaged with several materials to keep them cool. Thank you! read more

Came here to check it out as I love cheese, and there aren't much cheese shops like this in Southern California. They have a wide selection of cheeses and other various items like jam and their own milk. I was quite disappointed as I read online that you can sample variety of cheese, but when I arrived they said there was no samples, but I can sample the curd that they made two days ago. It is definitely a place to check out if you like cheese. read more

The absolute best garlic cheese curds ever my husband and I love this place. They also carry Taylor meat products and the jalapeño and cheddar meat sticks are also very good. read more

AMAZING!! I live right there and go there sometimes. The cheese curds are the best! They are warm and gooey, great for an afternoon snack. They also have ice cream, which is great. oh, and I don't like cheesecake, but theirs is the bomb. Definitely recommend! read more

Revisiting this for the one cheese we liked and were pleasantly surprised. I upgraded last years review to 5 stars due to product development and great customer service. This is a quick stop for good cheese. My favorites were parmesan, pepito (black pepper), olive, and island fire (mango habenero havarti). The dry jack was excellent. The hard and interesting flavored cheeses were my favorite here but they have great other options. They do ship in flat rate boxes. read more

I live in Brookings so this is a periodic visit. A classic tourist stop in a good way with lots of options besides their cheese. My current MUST have is their butter. Really. Noticably better. The aged jack with black pepper. And the habanero pepper jack because most pepper jacks are tasteless to me. I like that they offer a discount on many of their cheeses. And a variety of decent cheeses that aren't theirs. Very friendly and helpful too. read more

The question you must first ask yourself is "Do I like moderately priced locally made delicious cheese?" If the answer is yes then you must come here. They have limited hours so make sure to check ahead of you are just driving through crescent city. There is ample parking all around the streets as crescent city is a pretty quiet town. When you walk in there is a large window to the right. Be mesmerized by the making of the cheese. Once you have the saliva going and a strong desire in your stomach to taste what they are making go over to the table next to cashier. This is not some cheap you get to try 2-3 cheeses place. There are 4 Tupperware dishes with 6 spaces for a grand total of 24 cheeses to try. I know it's difficult but just try to remember your favorites as they are all good. They have your normal varieties of cheeses and a few home grown concoctions mixed in with the cheese. Habanero Gouda set my taste buds afire in a good way. After you have chosen which are the best for your palate simply go over to the large fridge and pick your cheeses. The staff is very nice abs if you ask what you are looking for they will point it out. As I mentioned there are many varieties to look through. Also great was the cheese scraps. By that I mean they cut cheese into sellable wedges and squares but ends and broken pieces are not wasted. They are put in plastic bags and sold cheap. I got a bag of smoked Gouda scraps for 2.50 a pound. Which was perfect as I was just going to cut it into cubes anyway. In short it's delicious and can't be missed unless you are lactose intolerant and the. I suggest getting lactaid and trying it anyway read more

If you want a large selection of a wide variety of cheeses Rumiano Cheese Store is a must. They have cheeses that are made on premises as well as popular cheeses that are made by others. The prices are really incredible, too! I'm not certain of the exact rate, but they seem to sell all cheeses at a 33.33% discount. If you buy the same cheese at any local grocery store, you will pay at least a 1/3 more. My favorite is when they sell 'Gorgonzola' blue cheese (they have not supplied it in over 3 months). They also have 'Maytag' blue cheese, as well as 'Danish' blue cheese. They have a large variety of cheeses that you may sample. There are also gift items, jams, butter,s, Olive oils, wines, sauces, and locally made sausages of several different varieties. There are also a viewing windows available for you to look through while they make cheese on premises. It's a worthwhile stop. read more

Hard to believe there's a large cheese factory on a side street in sleepy little Crescent City but there is! When we were there they were sampling 19 different cheeses! Almost everything was amazing though my favourites were the horseradish cheddar and the pesto jack. The prices were insanely low with cheeses in the sale cooler going for as low as $2.50 a lb.... That's right!!! The woman working was very friendly and even opened a still warm package of curds for us to try when I said we'd never had them on their own (we're Canadian, for us curds are for poutine!). Some of the best cheese I've ever had. read more

They just came out with a new jalapeño jam. The hottest jalapeño jam I've had so far. I'm in love with it. I also love their garlic butter. It is fantastic! The service is very helpful as well. I'll definitely be coming back for more products. read more

Amazing cheese and even more amazing customer service. Actually we made it a point to stop here during our vacation because it is such a neat place. A big company that hasn't lost touch with its roots or its customers. Anyone passing through Crescent City must stop here. This is a must-do stop in Crescent City. The staff is friendly and inviting, and the cheese is absolutely delicious. The tasting room/gift shop is small, but it has a lot to offer. I love good cheese. This is the place to find it. Not only is the cheese exceptional but this is a wholesale outlet so the cheese is sold at far below supermarket or cheese shop prices. The Rumiano shop is small with a cold case on one wall and a counter opposite. There is a large window into the cheese processing shop. Rumiano Cheese allows visitors to sample their wares. The cold case contains a wide variety of cheese. There are eight or nine different cheddars, a dozen jack cheese variations, and plenty of other choices including goat and sheep milk cheeses. We had a hard time choosing but left with several bricks of the award-winning aged Monterrey Jack, a horseradish cheddar, and several pieces of Sicilian Jack. The Sicilian Jack contains black olives, sun dried tomato, basil, and garlic. It is ungodly good and sells for $3.00 a pound. No, that price is not a typo. I WAS going to buy a smoked cheddar which is a hard to find cheese with a rich, lingering flavor. But then the clerk casually mentioned that she doesn't even like horseradish but that her personal favorite is the Rumiano horseradish cheddar. Back went the smoked cheddar and into the bag went the horseradish cheddar. This little shop is a cheese lover's dream. Honestly, when I next find myself within 200 miles of Crescent City, I'll be making a point to get back to this place and load up on cheese. read more

Their cheese is FIVE STARS, AND DELICIOUS. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience buying the cheese. The two women running the front were extremely rude. We tried to tell them how much we loved their cheese and they blew us off. While standing waiting to pay, the one girl looked at us and eventually decided to let us know she was too important to help us, and said the other lady will help. We were very confused because we didn't see a second lady to help us. They need friendlier staff. read more

Dropped by here as a whim when I saw the place. There is an observation window looking from the store out into the cheese factory. Pretty cool to watch! And in the store... Stay to watch the cheese makers and visit with the friendly staff. read more

We were driving back from Oregon and stopped by Rumiano Cheese in Crescent City. They had 3 plates full of different cheese samples.
