Beware Medicare patients. If you have cataracts, the surgery and lenses are covered...but the doctor and his assistant will try to sell you, for one or both eyes, a "better" lens that's not covered. They will tell you that you need it, and it will make your vision better. He will then charge you $700 for special "measurements", with this antique looking machine, that he uses for a couple of minutes. Bogus. Then he will tell you to call the surgery center in Wilton to order the lenses, which are between $400-$500 each. My regular eye doctor told me that I should have called him before I agreed to this. It's a scam that a lot of eye surgeons are pulling, because they only get a certain amount from Medicare, and this is a way of making more money. He said that the lenses that are covered by Medicare are fine, and there's no charge for the eye measurements. This is really cheating poor, retired people out of their money. Or worse, putting them into credit card debt. Say NO to the "better" lens. read more
