My ophthalmologist of many years fell ill and retired. I had an awful experience with another ophthalmologist who ran an assembly line operation inefficiently. Worse I had no confidence in his prescription because his refractor had smudged lenses. So after checking her reviews I decided to update my contact lenses and have Dr Gross double check the other's work. She fitted me with the latest and greatest daily wear contacts very professionally and without a hitch. That night, with my Parkinson's Disease reducing my fine motor control, I couldn't remove the lenses. The next morning,​ I reached out to Dr Gross and she made arrangements to meet me at a local YMCA convenient to my job and removed the contract lenses. She was gracious, without a word of complaint. I was a patient and was examined by Dr. Gross for a number of years, and then I had a really bad experience and never went back. I met with Dr. Gross and she completed my eye exam; she then began reviewing my file for contact lenses. She told me she was giving me a prescription for daily contact lenses. I explained to her (very nicely) that I had never worn daily contact lenses in my life, and she said, yes you have, it's in your file, I told her again that this was incorrect. She then began arguing with me, and insisted that I was wearing daily lenses. I told her again that there was a mistake made. She told me that there was no mistake -- and didn't believe me. We were in a heated argument for a few more minutes and walked out to her assistant at the front desk. Her assistant had pulled the wrong file with the same first and last name as mine in the Stamford area. She finally realized that her employee had made the mistake and not me. There was just silence and no apology from Dr. Gross. She is rude as hell! I walked out of her office at the Norwalk Costco and never returned. Absolutely despicable! This review is about the front desk associate at Dr. Gross' office at the Costco in Norwalk, CT. This review may not be completely fair bc its not about Dr. Gross herself. But since the staff is part of the team, people need to know what they may be signing up for when they come to this office. I can't remember the associate's name, but my encounter with her was about 2-3 years ago. I asked if she can give me a hard copy of my contact lens prescription since I lost it, and you'd think I just asked her to build a house. She sounded very inconvenienced and flustered, that it'll take her a long time to do it, and so she couldn't do it that day. I resorted to asking the optical sales dept (located outside Dr. Gross' office where they sell the actual contacts/glasses) if they can check my prescription for me. Dr. Gross' associate then made a huge scene by confronting these associates that she couldn't give me a hard copy of my prescription. This is a very "nice" description of the incident, bc I've never been so belittled nor embarrassed before in my life until this incident. The other associates looked embarrassed as well, and seems like this wasn't the first time something like this happened. Dr. Gross, you may be losing a lot of customers and thus $$ from this one person on your staff. If you look at the reviews on the Costco Optical Norwalk Google page, it looks like this associate is still there. I'd definitely recommend making an appointment as Dr. Gross is usually booked. She is pleasant, friendly, and a good conversationalist. Reception is wonderful and friendly. Little pricy and don't accept my insurance, but does a great good overall. read more

Dr. Gross is inside the Costco in Norwalk. I scheduled an appt there as a first time patient for a routine eye exam/contact lens fitting based on proximity and convenience. They also accepted VSP which brought down my costs aside from copay. There was no wait, exam was quick but thorough, and she was willing to answer any questions. Very friendly as well. I was done within 20 min and she wrote an Rx for glasses/contacts upfront. No push to buy anything from them as they are based within the Costco Optical dept. read more

A co-worker recommended her to me. Bad idea! I was not impressed with her at all. Long story short--she messed up my prescription contact lenses. Couldn't see for a week! Went back to had her adjust it. Never apologized for the wrong prescription, but rather, became defensive on why she gave it to me. Wanted me to take the new lenses out to the reception area and put them on there! (I thought that was rude.) I told her no, I was going to wash my hands and put them in in her office. And I did. I think she was really offended that she had to write my prescription over. Didn't even smile the whole time I was there--so much for customer service! I'm getting my contact prescription filled elsewhere. I won't be back to Dr. "Gross." (Good name). Between her and that cramped office--I cannot and will not recommend this place. read more

Me and my family have been going to Dr. Gross for years now. She has always been professional, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. Dr Gross has a competent but kind demeanor and she has gone above and beyond to accommodate our family whom she always remembers. The first time I went to Dr Gross I had a shard of glass in any eye. It was getting progressively more painful and hard to ignore so I went to see her. I wasn't sure what it was but I knew a windy day in Manhattan had caused it. Dr Gross examined my eye and removed the shard with the utmost care. I felt better immediately. She is an excellent doctor. Two of my children are touring musicians and she has always made time in her schedule to fit them in when they are visiting briefly. I really can't say enough about Dr Erica Gross. She always makes her patients feel welcome and important. I highly recommend her. read more

DO NOT allow this quack to examine your eyes, for glasses or contact lens prescription. Not only did she mess up my prescription (which I verified with a second doctor a few months later), she became very rude and combative when I voiced my opinion about how the state extorts us every year just to purchase a new set of contacts. Instead of being PROFESSIONAL & APPRECIATIVE of my business last year, she wanted to defend the states actions, and for some odd reason, took offense to me googling the CT law in front of her, and kicked me out of the waiting area. BTW, nobody was in there, or waiting, so I was not being disruptive at all. LMAO, what a clown. Presumably took offense to my words, because its how she gets GUARANTEED business every year. If that policy did not exist, "doctors" like her would not make any money, and would be relegated to working the outhouses at the monthly town fair. I am an executive member at Costco, and find it very disturbing that they allow someone like her to represent their brand. Not only will I not go there for an eye exam any longer, I will also no longer purchase glasses, or contacts from that store. Congratulations GROSS, your cutting into Costco's profits. Living up to her name, "Gross". I can't even call her a doctor of any sorts, she had the worst bed side manners ever! Chip on her shoulder and rude. Had an exam and ordered glass. When picking them up, I noticed they were way off. I spoke to "Gross" she said to have them adjusted and I did but, still couldn't see. Then I was told that my eyes would take time to adjust. Went back after 2 moths and still not being able to see she refused to give me a refund. She was extremely rude and hostile! She said, that she wasn't concerned about loosing our business. I have been coming to the optometrist at Costco for more years than I can count. So has my family. My mom has told me multiple times she has been treated poorly when trying contacts for the first time and was having trouble with putting them in. We also went to the former doctor who had been here. When Dr. Gross replaced that Doctor we all started seeing her. Initially I thought that Dr. Gross was great and her treatment of patients good. Within the last year or so, several family members have complained to me about the treatment they received. I listened and empathized but said my experiences had all been positive so I would keep going to her office. Of course my next visit proved me wrong. I have unfortunately been having this same experience since my visit in November 2015. The contacts I was given were not comfortable and my vision wasn't great, so I called back to come in and get a follow up. I tried a new pair and found they also weren't great and received a new pair. With this pair I noticed they were dry and worse, I realized I couldn't read street signs while driving or even read the number on a house I was standing in front of. By this time it was early March since I had been calling during February and I didn't receive a call back. I called to explain this to the receptionist and she very rudely told me that the three month followup period had expired and I had to pay $80 now for a followup visit even though my prescription was clearly wrong since I couldn't see. She said she could pretty much guarantee that Dr. Gross wouldn't do the followup as a courtesy and would charge but said it was on me to talk to her about it, but she was conveniently on vacation. Let me tell you- I have been coming to this optometrist for years. There is NO sign anywhere that says follow ups only through three months are covered it doesn't say it on any paperwork you fill out as a patient or on your receipt when you pay for your visit. I was so angry at this treatment! Seriously- my prescription is actually wrong and you're going to charge me again to get it right? So I paid for nothing essentially bc I don't have a functional contact prescription or a good contact that fits comfortably? The receptionist was exceedingly rude and condescending. I was sooooo pissed about this that I wore my glasses only from March through July. This week I thought, hey, lemme try again. I'm not as angry as I was, I'll just pay the damn $80 beyond the $150 I paid for the exam and one pair of contacts, and get a functional, correct contact prescription. So I call early in the week and hear nothing back. I am driving past on Thursday and figure I'll pop in to see if I can get a walk in appointment since I am not getting any call backs. So I walk in and this receptionist is so so rude again and now tells me I have to pay for an entirely new exam again for $150 since this all started in November, even though my contact prescription is supposed to be good through November. Even though it isn't correct and I can't even order any contacts to wear and use. I have *never* been treated so badly by a doctor's office, especially an optometrist. Especially as I have been a patient here for years! I can't even believe it. I now want to recommend to you: don't come here. Go anywhere else. The Costco optical department are fantastic and I have had years of good experiences with them. Don't stop buying glasses and contacts here, just don't come to this optometrist. read more

Although I live 5 hours away, I feel it is important to stick with a doctor you feel comfortable with. Great service! Very professional too. First of all my thanks to Kim the receptionist for going the extra distance to sort out working with my insurance company. She got me an appointment right away with Dr. Erica Gross OD. I have been a patient since she started about 2010. Her eye exam revealed a high pressure concern and she referred me to an excellent specialist. Dr Gross's prescriptions for eyeglasses are always spot on, and her helpful tips for working with the costco eyeglass department have been very helpful. Costco is probably the best place in Fairfield county for great glasses at bargain prices. read more

I have never felt the need to write a review before this incident. First, the appointment I scheduled several days in advance seemed to vanish from their archaic scheduling notebook causing me to have to return a day later despite calling ahead. Then when I finally did get the appointment Dr. Gross was curt and unprofessional when it came to me asking questions regarding my eye health. When I get home with my new contacts (which Dr. Gross herself put in my eyes) my vision was a bit blurry which I didn't think much of until I realized she had given me contacts that had EXPIRED TWO YEARS AGO. When I came back at the very least for an apology and some new contacts, she claimed that she "told me not to wear them" as if she had known they were dangerous. Again, she was the one that put them in my eyes. She refused to apologize or reimburse me for causing damage to my eyes. Very close to pressing charges. DO NOT SEE THIS WOMAN FOR MEDICAL ASSISTANCE. Order prescriptions through Costco that is fine but this woman is an invalid. read more
