I decided to go for a second opinion to Dr. Bradley Thomas and he informed me that I do have a gluteus medius tear however, that's not what was giving me the pain instead it was trochanteric bursitis and he treated me with a steroid injection. I am already feeling relief from Dr. Bradley's treatment. I can't express how grateful I am for both Dr. Bradley, Thomas and David Tu for their expertise. they are a great team.

Now I understand why it was so easy and quick to get a consult appt with him. I have been dealing with a scapula issue since 2017. I was seeing another doctor for a couple of years but he left my insurance. And, I got busy with grad school. Also, it was just symptom management and wasn't correcting the problem. I have done everything under to moon. Including spending thousands of dollars out of pocket to help me. The pain and soreness is unlike anything I have experienced. It has a "tortuous" psychological aspect to it. Kind of what I would imagine water drop on the forehead torture would be. It's painful and always snapping and popping. Pain is now radiating to other parts of my body. I didn't want surgery at the beginning but I'm starting to get desperate after dealing with this for years and it's getting worse. I'm very happy to start PT and shots again in hopes of bypassing sx. I was open on my forms and shared I have fibromyalgia (FM). However, it's been well-controlled for several years now. He was hyper-focused on that though. So rude and unprofessional. "Well your alignment (with my layers of clothes on) is fine and so is your strength". - Nothing to do with the pain and discomfort I experience. He was totally dismissive of my concerns and even the treatment I received in the past. He knows nothing about FM or "snapping scapula" if he thinks the specific symptoms of my scapula are due to FM. No way would I let this doctor touch me with a needle and he is not getting my business. For the first time... I got up, thanked him for his time, and walked out. I believe him to be biased toward overweight people, older people, women, and those with complex pain issues. Everyone has implicit bias but being a good provider means checking those at the door when you took an oath "to do no harm". The front office staff and MA were nice and professional, the office appeared clean, plenty of parking, fabric chairs in the waiting area, and the wait time was reasonable.

The optimal window for this surgery is within 3 weeks of the injury, but because of the MRI delay, Dr. Nuccion wasn't able to do the surgery until 6 weeks after. 5 1/2 months later, I am still not fully recovered, but I am well on my way doing light pushups and resuming tennis. I don't know what full recovery looks like a couple of months from now in terms of my strength and athletic capacity compared to before, but it's 100% guaranteed to be far better than the massive limitations I would've had to live with for the rest of my life had Dr Nuccion not been able to pull off the surgery despite the delay. My first day I crutched in and I had a physical therapist assigned to me and that was Jessica Dungca. She was calm, welcoming, understanding and generally had an aura of trust around her. That first day we went over my situation, treatment plan for the next two weeks and she even cleaned up my post op area around my knee and reapplied new dressings and what not, I did not expect that to happen and it was so nice of her. She is also very adamant about getting you the paperwork you need for work. I requested a duty limitation letter from her on a Friday morning and she had it easy to go on Monday morning, in my inbox of my email. Very professional, caring and helpful with anything you need in your recovery. Fast forward three (3) months, I absolutely love Jessica and Russell as my PT team. They are so nice, welcoming, understanding and supportive when it comes to recovery. They both listen and care when you are feeling uncomfortable with movements and have an alternative ready to go. All in all, I would highly recommend this Torrance office for physical therapy and ask for Jessica and Russell! Cannot recommend them enough.
