We found Maui kayak through a search and Maui Kayak Adv. had great reviews and it seemed to be on the side of the island we were on. Bonus... they are a B Corp. (look that up if you don't know) A company who gives back is super important and they are a small business, extra bonus. We had reservations for one day but the swells were a little "extra" so they called us to reschedule for another day. We had a little wiggle room and I appreciate that they cared about safety and even visibility in the water. Communication was super easy either via call or text and I was always updated on location of meet up. We were super lucky to have Heather as our guide. She was super nice and had great vibes and was super knowledgeable about the ocean life and geography around us. She took us to great spots and we saw tons of turtles amongst all of the other tropical fishes both shy and "brave" She even took amazing pictures for us of creatures up close by free diving and we got to download them later. Out of our on of our water snorkel adventures on our trip this was our fave: Heather was just all around rad. They always had Eddie keeping an eye on everyone in the water and helping people that dropped things that sank to the bottom. Eddie made sure you didn't get too far away. I appreciated the free mineral based coral safe sunblock. The hour at the crater and turtle town went by so quickly. Definitely try to be the first one off the boat if you can to maximize your time. They provide wetsuits for rentals if you need it. They also have a lady that is an underwater photographer and she did a nice job of trying to get photos of everyone which I think is the most difficult job on the ship. I liked her photos but thought $45 for a single photo was a bit too steep. I appreciate the fruits and pastures from Whole Foods and the coffee and also the sandwiches and potato salad and juice for lunch. They were delicious. There is something about snorkeling that makes you hungrier than normal. I always felt safe on the boat. A couple of things to point out, the boat gets pretty full so if you want to a covered seat get there early and if you want to sit in the very front you will get wet from the waves coming through the netting. Also the parking there was much more than I thought and read. It was $18ish dollars for 5.5 hrs I was parked there. The parking on the parking only goes up to 3 hours so don't risk getting a ticket even that parking is like $1/hr. The only other thing g which is totally out of the control of Malolo is the amount of tour companies to contend with when you get to the crater. It felt too crowded and too many people there. At Turtle Town there were hardly any turtles on the day we went unfortunately. I had seen more turtles on our own at other beaches than at turtle town, but I did see a couple of turtles. In general, people aren't aware of snorkeling etiquette and oblivious to their surroundings. I had snorkelers cut me off, crash into me, and taking their sweet time getting on and off the boat with the single stairs. Overall a good trip if you want to get out to the crater, but as for turtles, go to a beach on west Maui and you won't really have any issues.

To make matters worse, we paid $100 for the photo package, expecting high-quality memories of our adventure. Unfortunately, the photos were terrible--blurry, poorly framed, and far from what you'd expect for the price. It felt like a complete waste of money. I wouldn't recommend the especially given how much they charge. There are better options for snorkeling in Maui--save your money and look elsewhere.

And bathrooms are near by. If you don't have a hat, they have some to borrow. But i highly recommend a hat and sunglasses. They provide the life vests, kayaks, snorkel equipment and dry bags if needed. If you wear glasses, I highly recommend that you rent a optical mask prior to your snorkel trip so you don't miss out on all the fun things to see. Also, highly recommend a pouch for your phone so you can take pictures. We had planned on renting snorkel equipment the day before so that the seven year old cooks try it and get used to the mask. This didn't happen and it maybe would have helped, as jumping off a kayak into deep water, plus adding a weird mask in which you can't use your nose and adding the snorkel was quite overwhelming. Ryan was our guide and was great. Our family was the only group in which everyone had kayaking experience. Most people were new to both. Ryan did a great job explaining everything and making sure that everyone was safe and having fun. He also talked about the different islands near the end. We had a fabulous time. Saw many turtles and fish feeding on the reefs. The views both above and below the water were amazing.

They provide water and you can borrow a dry bag if you don't have one, and leave stuff in a cabinet - we left towels and a change of clothes (restroom on the property and place to rinse right off the beach).

One of the highlights was reeling in a 6 foot, 20# ono which completely delighted my daughters. Biggest downside- they didn't let us take our own pictures preferring their photographer to do it. The cost for pictures was completely ridiculous. The grumpy captain clearly did not want to share the fish stating that it would be at least an hour before fillet and dividing it up amongst the crew. I chose not to let the crew and the photography to sour the experience. What a joy it was to share the experience of swimming with the fish with my daughters. Biggest perk- prescription sunglasses that allowed me to see 20/20 clear! Be aware- the parking cost is monstrous :( Totally wish I could own my own boat to be out and about snorkeling in the absolute gorgeous Maui ocean life!

When you get on board they have a light breakfast with fruit, croissants and muffins that you can snack on, as well as fruit juice. The ride out, they explain some safety stuff and how the day is going to run. There are 2 floors to the boat with the upstairs being much more open. There were only about 30 people the day we went but I believe they have up to 100, so a more crowded day may have a different experience. Despite being in November, we ended up seeing several whales coming to the surface (apparently they are in abundance come January). They provide snorkel gear and fins, but you are more than welcome to bring your own (we borrow fins only as we brought our own masks). They provide a simple anti fog spray which worked great. They let us snorkel for about 2 hours in the surrounding area asking us to stay within 50 yards of the boat with a buddy. The staff answered all our questions about what fish we were seeing and recommendation for how to see the best fish. There is also a glass bottom that you can climb down a ladder in the boat to see the fish without going in the water. They served lunch while docked so you could eat while you took a break from snorkeling. It was fish tacos with a selection of fish, pork or being burger meat. They had a slaw and quinoa side and some chips. Nothing fancy but o found it delicious after working up an appetite snorkeling. They had cameras for rent (extremely expensive so I'd bring your own), a photographer that took picture you could purchase for a fee ($80 for all the pictures she took of us, again a little pricey), wet suit tops for rent ($10 each) and special snorkel masks if you are near sighted (I believe this had no additional charge). The boat was pretty new, clean and open which was nice. I would 100% go out with this company again.

The boat was not in good condition either. My sons were very disappointed. I would not recommend. When I booked the trip, I spoke to Josh. If he wasn't able to go, he should not have confirmed the trip. FYI, this is not a fishing charter. The crew had one single fishing pole for 5 people. They had lines in that would troll around. They would put bait on the one pole, drop it in the water and when there was a bite, they would allow someone to reel it in. The crew was fishing and everyone was watching. Also, he is using a much smaller and older boat.
