Wally and Nancy's place was our accomodation during our Upstate NY trip to visit Cornell, Ithaca and the Finger Lakes wineries. This was the week before the nearby colleges graduation so the whole Finger Lakes region was relatively quiet which resulted in a chill experience for us. This BnB consists of 2 houses. We chose a room in the second house. it was very quiant. Given that this was the quiet week, we had the entire house to ourselves even though it would have been fun if there were other guests around to interact with. Nonetheless, the hosts very gracious and made us feel at home by interacting with us during breakfasts and dinner. They genuinely wanted to get to know their guests and vice versa. The black Labrador Gus was also super friendly. We got the package that includes a 4-hour wine tour car service and an exclusive dinner for 2 prepared by Wally himself, on top of the daily breakfast that's included in the standard room rate. The highlight of our stay was Wally's culinary skills. He is a world-class chef in our opinion. He made the best omelette I've had in my life. Since we got the dinner package, every detail of the 4-course meal was discussed and customized with us prior to our stay. I would recommend Glass Magnolia to anyone visiting the region. Even if you are not into wines, Wally's cooking alone is worth the stay. read more

Overall, I can't really say I've got anything bad to say about this cute bed and breakfast, however it wasn't my favorite either. I'll start with the not so great: - my friend had I had zero cell signal anywhere in the house and little town, however, they had great WiFi - the smallest (read: cheapest) room, is very tiny, and you have to walk through the bathroom to go into the bedroom. It makes it awkward if you care about that kind of thing or if you are going with a friend and not a significant other. Good stuff: - the innkeepers are phenomenal people, and had tons of recommendations for events/places to eat and explore. They offered lots of options and great ideas. - the breakfast - AMAZING! We just got back from a three night stay at The Glass Magnolia. Nancy and Wally are excellent hosts, and "Canine Concierge" Gus is an absolute delight to spend time with. I'm going to start by saying we chose this place solely because it was the closest lodging to Lucas Vineyards where we were attending an event. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by everything about this place. The Inn Keepers, Wally and Nancy, are absolutely wonderful. From the moment we checked in to the moment we left, they made us feel completely at home. The room was comfortable and exactly as described on the website. Breakfast the next morning was exceptional. We were immediately served coffee and cranberry nut bread with fresh fruit on the side while we waited for breakfast. My girlfriend and I stayed here in August, because they were one of the few places that would accommodate our dog. We really enjoyed ourselves. Our room came with a semi private back patio, that was basically ours because no one else was around. There was a huge backyard, and school campus across the street for our dog to play in. Breakfast was buffet style, and was done very well. The rooms were well kept and fairly modern. I would definitely recommend this if your wandering the finger lakes and looking for a place to stay over night. read more

I'm being generous with giving this place two out of five stars. However, I'll start off with the good points of my stay at this B & B. Wally and Nancy (the owners) were nice and friendly enough and the place was as clean as it could be for such an old building. Unfortunately the bad far outweighed the good here. The first thing I noticed upon arrival was the overpowering stench of bleach. No one should use that much bleach unless they're covering up for a bloody crime scene. It was also very cold throughout the entire house ALL of the TIME. Sure, I get that they were probably trying to save a few bucks on energy costs but is that really worth making your customers uncomfortably cold all of the time? I think not. The bleach smell gave me a monster headache and upon arrival into our tiny room, we opened up the windows so as to try and air out the place for a bit (even though it was cold outside). We turned on and blasted the electric heaters and left the windows open for an hour or more. Eventually the smell subsided. The layout of our room was ridiculously stupid. It's a good thing we've been married for over six years and we've gotten past all of the embarrassing bathroom moments already otherwise this would have murdered our romance. The bathroom is the first room you enter upon arriving in our room. You have to pass the bathroom in order to get to our teeny tiny bedroom. This unfortunate layout means that I could be in our room taking a dump while my husband is out getting something and when he comes back, BAM! the first thing he'll see is me on the crapper. It also doesn't help that the toilet is so close to the bed. Forget about trying to cover up the smell of a fresh crap. The bathroom sink was too small and the faucet was awful. I could only let the water dribble out very slowly or else the water would spray all over my torso. This made it take me at least three times longer to wash my hands and brush my teeth. Not cool at all. Our bedroom was so tiny that there was nowhere to put our luggage! There's literally not enough space on the floor for a full sized suit case. We had to clear everything off the top of the dresser in order to have somewhere to put the suit case. After only being in the room for a mere two hours, I was livid. I couldn't believe that we spent so much on such sub par accommodations. When I took a shower, the temperature kept fluctuating. When I achieved the perfect temperature, it would then go freezing cold. Apparently whenever someone else in the building uses the water or flushes the toilet, it affects the temperature of the shower. This made me absolutely miserable. There's something incredibly negligent that the owners could have easily rectified but chose not to. I had brought my own bag of toiletries from home and kept them in a plastic Target bag right next to the shower. While cleaning our room, Nancy threw out my bag of toiletries. When I confronted her about this, she merely said that she was sorry. If I had done something like that to a customer, I would have immediately offered to go to the store and replace everything that had been thrown out but she did not even attempt to make such an offer. Anyone who works in the hotel or B & B business should know that you absolutely do not throw anything out unless it is in the trash. When she threw out my personal belongings, that's when I knew that I would take time out of my day to write this review. They also got our breakfast order wrong on our first morning there. After telling them so, she just said that she was sorry and did not offer to fix it or make us a different breakfast. Although we would have declined a new breakfast, they still should have offered to do so. This is just very bad customer service all around. This was the worst B & B I've ever stayed in and I plan to do more research in the future before booking rooms. read more

We visited Glass Magnolia during college visits for my son, and we found it to be an unexpected highlight of our trip. It is conveniently located near Cornell and Ithaca College, and is en route to Rochester Institute of Technology where we were headed. (I should also mention that it is not far from Watkins Glen - I'll make a note of this for a future NASCAR visit.) There are several things that make Glass Magnolia special. Let's start with the owners, Wally and Nancy, who truly welcome you into their home and are happy to have you visit. We arrived when there were few other rooms occupied, so we were treated to a tour of the B&B. Each room is different, beautiful, and chock full of nostalgic charm. There are many rooms in the two buildings, which would make it perfect for larger groups who are getting together to see the area or to just relax. They settled us in a really great room which was perfect for our situation - a large bedroom with a smaller one attached for my son. The room was warm, comfortable, and clean. The owners gave us many ideas to experience local life and culture, recommended several good restaurants, and were eager to make sure we enjoyed our visit. We stayed for two nights, and though our schedule was pretty busy, we did get to have dinner locally. The breakfast portion of the B&B was also memorable. The dining rooms are really great - roomy, well-decorated, and full of natural light. The food was very good, and got us off to a good start for our college visits. Stop by Glass Magnolia for a destination or just a place to lay your head. You'll be a fan. read more

I've now stayed at the Glass Magnolia 3 times and have been more impressed each time! The owners, Wally and Nancy, continue to improve and upgrade this quaint B&B and always make me feel welcome. I've had the pleasure of staying in "both" houses and each have their unique qualities. The rooms are clean and spacious, but be sure to check with your hosts when booking as they will help you pick the best room for your needs. You can't go wrong! Nancy and Wally always help us with ideas of what to do, where to dine, etc. They know a lot about the area and the wineries, which is always helpful. The Taughannock Falls park is a must!
