After the windows were cleaned it seemed logical to replace a kitchen window screen that the…read moresquirrels had damaged several years ago. I don't know why they chose that one. None of the others were damaged, but so it goes. I did a search and found Handyman Flores. I called him, but the voicemail on his phone is not set up, so I was unable to leave a message. I used the Yelp communication tool to leave him a message and that made the process far more complicated than it needed to be, because Yelp sent the message to several other window-related companies. It was very aggravating and I won't use that again, because I'm having to respond to all sorts of random companies and people Yelp contacted on my "behalf". Only one of the 4 or 5 companies was local. The closest otherwise was San Rafael. The others were in Pittsburg and San Ramon. Talk about a blunt instrument, unhelpful and, in my case, counterproductive. Most helpful of those was Paula, of East County Glass & Window. If I lived closer, I would certainly use them. Her response was detailed and extremely useful. I finally did reach Handyman Flores, who said by text that he could replace the screen for $120. That seemed OK. I was quoted a range of prices and that was in the middle. He and a helper came over between 5:00 and 6:00 this evening. They replaced the screen and it looks great, as good as new. When I was writing the check I confirmed the amount and he said that it would be $150 because of the materials he had purchased. That was a surprise, but I paid it. He does a wide range of services, so he is indeed a handyman. It would be handier for his customers if his voice mailbox were set up.

After I…read morereceived an estimate for replacing six windows in my living room, I had tentatively decided to use them because it was the most reasonable estimate of the four contractors that I had contacted. I called the owner to ask if he thought replacing my old single pain windows with double pain ones would reduce the chill in the room given there is no insulation. Guess what he said. "Probably not. I'm going to speak to you man to man. Take your wife on a cruise with the $17,000 it will cost to replace the windows". Wow, an honest professional who stood to lose the contract. I thanked him for his honesty and decided to take his advice. Check Daryl out. I think you will be pleased.

I live in a house that was painted by an Artisan painting crew fourteen years ago and have been…read morewanting to write a review for their company ever since. I am not a professional painter and yet I have spent the past fourteen years redoing many of the areas that Artisan painted (or in some cases, didn't paint!). It blows my mind that a company that has the word "artisan" ('a worker in a skilled trade') in its title would do such shoddy work. Prep work was overlooked with Artisan's painters and it shows; paint has been peeling and many gaps in the exterior of the house were left without caulking (I guess that's Artisan's idea of "waterproofing"). As other reviewers mentioned, I recall an owner (or supervisor?) showing up to inspect the work that was being done in her Porsche SUV. This individual never got up on the scaffolding and did any work herself. I'm sure many homeowners can relate to how poorly executed most work is these days. Oftentimes, we can do better work ourselves (and save thousands of dollars in the process). It's a sad state of affairs when folks who work in the trades have such low standards - and can get away with it. Thankfully Yelp and other websites allow us to talk about our experiences and warn potential clients to avoid certain companies. Artisan Painting is one such company.

They were prompt, and went above the call of duty in several areas where they really didn't need to. I even had an issue with a patch they did on my kitchen ceiling, and Jan was back to fix it in a flash. If you are thinking about hiring Artisan for your painting job, don't hesitate. If anyone wants to talk to me about my experience, please send me a note! I'm a very happy customer.

Needless to say everything fit, everything looked awesome & as remodel projects go, these guys were one of the few contractors that got their shit right the first time, didn't try to sell me something that I didn't need & delivered what they promised for really no more than even the big box/orange "despot" people's sales & installation folks quoted me.
