    Chicken Fried Rice
    Caitlin D.

I came here again for happy hour recently and the service was fast and friendly. I was thankful we were able to sit down even without a reservation. I ordered a Beef Skewer, California Rolls, and Chicken Fried Rice. I appreciated that the beef was cooked well. It was juicy and it wasn't overly salty. The California rolls were good! They gave us sliced ginger and wasabi. The chicken fried rice was enough for two people. Rice was well prepared and had a good amount of chicken in it. Enjoyable dinner for 2! Ate in under 30 min! Would recommend.

We ordered a variety of dishes sharing family style. The service was good and with our server Jon making suggestions among the sushi and the cooked/kitchen items. Dishes we loved: *kalbi (short ribs) *salmon kama (grilled collarbone) *TSA roll *samurai roll *Hanabi "crispy rice" *chicken katsu (fried cutlet with curry sauce and bok choy) *sea bass The dishes we thought were on the normal spectrum: *kimchi fried rice (a little bland, needed much more spice and flavor) *terryaki salmon (needed a kick, seasoning) The restaurant is located at "The Sky Deck" in Del Mar -- which is a large upstairs structure (part of a large mall complex) that is like a fancy food court. It has a common area with many open air bars and restaurants. This place had a glass box (see thru doors) around the sushi bar. We sat outside the glass box in the open area. It's not that big of a restaurant so it's a good idea to make reservations. Thank you for a great dining experience. We would like to come back to try HH and brunch/lunch on a weekend.

Love love LOVE happy hour here at Glass Box. Family and I came in for a last minute belated VDay dinner and the kindest servers were able to squeeze us in--thank you for accommodating us guys! Again, the happy hour deal literally such a steal and every item we've tried has been amazing. Some favorites include the chicken karaage, pork belly skewers, $1 oysters, and the shrimp tempura sushi roll. I love the vibes and ambiance every time I come and I'd just love to try the omakase experience in the box one day.

A key feature of Glass Box is their daily happy hour from 2 PM to 6 PM. The happy hour menu includes small bites, sushi rolls, cocktails, beer, and wine. Portions are smaller, but prices are fair, which makes it easy to try multiple items without spending too much. Glass Box is located inside Sky Deck in Del Mar near One Paseo. It's a smaller space with limited seating, especially inside the actual glass box where you can watch the sushi chefs work. We came around 4 PM with reservations, and it got noticeably busier closer to 5 PM. Parking is in the main shopping center lot and we had to circle around before finding a spot. Lychee martini: The presentation was nice, served chilled in a standard martini glass with a clean look. Flavor wise, I didn't hate it, but it wasn't my favorite. There was a creamy note to it that caught me off guard. It reminded me more of lychee Ramune than a traditional lychee martini. I usually prefer lychee martinis that taste light, crisp, and fruit forward. This one leaned creamier and slightly artificial tasting. It was still drinkable, just didn't have that refreshing finish I look for. Karaage ($6): The chicken came out hot with a golden crispy exterior that stayed crunchy throughout. The inside was juicy and tender and you could tell it was freshly fried. It was well seasoned on its own and didn't rely on the sauce. The dipping sauce added a creamy contrast and balanced the crisp texture well. The portion was fair for happy hour. Pork belly skewer ($5): The pork belly had great flavor and was nicely charred on the edges. The fat rendered well, giving it that rich melt in your mouth texture. It was seasoned properly and didn't need anything extra. The only downside was the portion size. It was one skewer with about three thinner slices. The flavor was strong, but I do wish there was either more meat or a thicker cut to make it feel more complete. Salmon poke taco (2 for $10): The salmon tasted fresh and clean and the portion was generous for the size of the taco shell. The crispy wonton shell added a nice crunch, and the poke style preparation made it feel like poke nachos in taco form. The sauce had a noticeable wasabi presence, but it wasn't overpowering. It added depth without being too spicy. The green onions and sauce tied everything together well. Yum! Shrimp tempura cut roll ($12): The roll was very balanced. The rice was soft and held together well. It was fresh and enjoyable. Nothing stood out in a major way, but it was still good quality. Spicy scallop cut roll ($12): The scallop mixture was fresh and had a good texture. This was super spicy though! So beware if you don't appreciate a good kick. Like the shrimp roll, it was well made but didn't have a strong wow factor. It's a good option if you want something lighter. Service was attentive and multiple staff checked on us throughout the meal. Sitting inside the glass box made the experience more interesting since you could watch the chefs prepare food. The space felt clean and modern, but the small tables made it feel cramped once everything arrived. Happy hour here is worth trying, especially if you want to try multiple items at a lower price. The karaage and salmon poke tacos were the highlights. I would come back and explore more of their full menu next time.

Came here for Lunch for San Diego Restaurant Week/Happy Hour and will definitely be coming back! Fish quality is good, refreshing tasty flavors all around! Their happy hour has a lot of good deals from $7 lychee martinis to $10 for 2 poke tacos to $1 oysters. You could also easily take advantage of the deal since happy hour runs Monday-Sunday 2-6pm here it would be perfect to stop in for a late lunch or early dinner! Hamachi Serrano crudo: fresh fish, refreshing taste, touch of spice from the Serrano Crispy rice spicy tuna: perfectly crispy crunchy rice square topped with a dollop of fresh spicy tuna. I LOVE this appetizer anywhere I get it and this place is no exception Chefs chirashi bowl: fresh sashimi, tasty seasoned sushi rice, veggies Salmon poke tacos: fresh fish in a crunchy flavorful wonton shell. I could probably eat 20 of these if given the chance! I will say the only thing I was disappointed by was that they didn't have the black sesame ice cream with miso caramel and roasted sesame seeds as described on the SDRW menu. We were sadly given sorbet as a substitute :( Overall the staff was nice, we did have to wait a bit at times to get someone's attention but it was probably due to where we were seating, I wasn't surprised given the slightly odd layout with the bar seating inside the box in the middle followed by a main seating area outside and tables surrounding the rest of the box, we were sat outside the box/bar seating area on the side opposite the main seating area so waiters did not pass by us as often as the other two areas. This restaurant is located inside what I would call an upscale food court similar to Anaheim packing district if you've ever been there. Its location is somewhat random as it's on the second floor above a grocery store in the back of the area, however this also means there's ample parking. Walking into the space you would never expect it to be where it is located since it actually looks a lot nicer on the inside than the outside when you pull up to the location! This restaurant and the other restaurants in this food court space are all nice looking standalone restaurants I saw a wide range from ramen to Thai food to a brewery in the space. The overall theme inside seems nature-y and modern. Might be a little off putting from the outside for a first date but would definitely recommend as a casual date night or friend hangout spot!

We have always been a fan of their happy hour, so when we saw their $25 for THREE courses for SDRW it's a no brainer we had to try. The quality of ingredients you get for this price is chef's kiss! First course I opt in for Hamachi Serrano Crudo. It was a light start and there were 3 piece of yellowtail marinated in yuzu ponzu topped with serrano, crispy garlic, and shiso oil. Second course it was a debate between the Lunch Bento or Chef Chirashi Bowl. You can't go wrong with sashimi and really glad I went with this choice. The sashimi is chopped up and you get a good amount of variety. Last course is my favorite! Black Sesame Ice Cream Sundae. Not all ice cream is created equal and I'm happy to report this one had the good black sesame taste. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so reservation is recommended. We stopped by the first thing when they opened, so we were able to get seated but was told nicely to leave by 12:15PM for the next reservation which was more than plenty of time.

    Jeannie L.

Dined here for Restaurant Week (believe it was $55/pp but could pay $10/pp to make it a 5 course meal, which we did). We made a reservation so being seated was no issue. It's a pretty small restaurant. The ambiance was great - the "glass box" itself was very cool. Service was decent, they were busy but still managed to be attentive. The food was very good, the fish tasted fresh. The salmon nigiri was a favorite, as well as the scallop entree.

Located in the sky deck, this location is perfect. Parking can be a challenge but we got lucky with a spot just out front. The glass box is visually stunning and really will catch your eye. What's even better is they have a weekend happy hour menu which is hard to find these days. The overall food quality was okay. The fried rice, sushi rolls, egg rolls as well as the skewers were good. The katsu curry lacked some flavor which made the dish just "okay." The drinks were also good and for HH it was a great deal. The service was also very good and the server frequently checked I. To make sure we were okay and asked if we needed anything else. Great overall experience.

Great option for HH on a weekend. $7 for a Lychee Martini? Yes please. Highlights were the sushi rolls (shrimp tempura, spicy tuna and Philadelphia) and the beef skewers. Fried rice with chicken was good but better after we added a bit of soy sauce. Katsu-don is my absolute favorite but I was pretty disappointed in their version here. The eggs looked precooked in a pan instead being gently cooked on top until set. The sauce was very thick but surprisingly bland. My friend had the longevity noodles which she said was also very bland. I would stick with the rolls. Bonus points for having HH on the weekends.

Our favorite Japanese restaurant in the area. This place truly has everything to satisfy your cravings. Beyond their artisan rolls and fresh sushi/sashimi, their kitchen dishes are outstanding--sometimes we come just for those alone. We especially love their Taiwanese beef noodle soup. It reminds me of my years in Taiwan--authentic, rich, and full of flavor. Service is always attentive, and they have a great selection of cocktails to pair with your meal. They really have something for everyone. Located inside SkyDeck, which adds to the experience with its fun, lively vibe.

Came to glass box for restaurant week which offered a four or five course meal for a good price. We had one meal of all fish and another of no fish so getting the full range of the menu. The fish meal was crudo, nigiri and scallops. The no fish was cucumber salad, fried tofu, Wagyu nigiri and a New York strip. The scallop dish flavor profile was different than anything I'd had before with a corn puree base. The Wagyu nigiri was a perfect one bite. A great restaurant week experience.

Which is what brought us to Beeside Balcony in Del Mar during the 1st SDRW of 2026. We had Saturday night reservations & got into town early with some time to kill. We found nearby street parking fairly easily. The hostess was able to quickly accommodate us with a table despite our early arrival. Indoor dining space is minimal. But as an upstairs restaurant with "Balcony" literally in its name, the outdoor patio is where you want to be. Our server was a inconsistent on attentiveness & was slow to warm up, though she was quite personable later in the meal. Along with all of the al fresco charm dining on the balcony offered, there was also a curious & less desirable element of the ambiance. During our meal, someone went around shooting pics/ videos for social media. It felt distracting & intrusive. While the SDRW menu was what brought us here, we opted for the Chef's menu after looking over all the options. I ordered the Salmon Croquette/ Denver Steak/ Churros. She ordered Cioppino Soup/ Barramundi/ S'More Cake. Although the pacing of our courses from the kitchen was uneven, most of what we had was good to great to wonderful. Sharing tastes of our dishes with each other, the 1 egregious miss for me was the Cioppino Soup. The seafood in it was good. But that broth was not. Aside from that, the Salmon Croquette & the Barramundi were delicious. The Denver Steak was a revelation. I'd never heard of this cut before, so I looked it up. Truly, a bang for the buck all star. & prepared perfectly here with a fantastic chimichurri. For our desserts, my Churros were good but not anything to get particularly excited about. Now, on the other hand, that S'More Cake? Wow. insanely indulgent with an ooey-gooey center. I honestly can't think of a better way to end a meal. Overall, the ambiance, service, & food all had highs & lows. Collectively, though, the sum total of the experience was pleasant enough that I would be interested in coming back. My threshold for 4 stars is if I'd come back. So, 4 stars it is.

This place is 100% fab-u-lous. I had no idea that Peruvian food would taste THIS good. I've had…read morecuisine from Peru before, but c'mon. . . we left this lovely restaurant with HUGE smiles on our faces. Talk about customer satisfaction. It's guaranteed at Coya. Everyone who waited on us were attentive and personable. Coya Peruvian Secret lives up to precisely what their name suggests. . . so let's keep it a secret of on the down low. Shhhhh, it's better that way.

Service was great! I called ahead because most Peruvian restaurants are closed on Mondays. They are…read moreopen Mondays! Yay. 4:30-5 chef takes a break so no major dishes at that time. So we took the coast and enjoyed the long way to the restaurant so we could get there at the right time. No issues parking, but we went during a slow time. It's off steet parking, there's not a parking lot, but again we found plenty of spots right in front of the restaurant. They have pretty and colorful decor. Fun lights and beautiful flowering tree coverage. Seating is outdoors so dress accordingly. I knew this because we've enjoyed dining here a few times, so I actually used my little throw blanket. It's causal but some Couples dress up and eat here too. Server was great. He was tentative and nice. I knew I wanted the shrimp causa and my daughter's favorite Peruvian dish is Lomo saltado, so thatd what she ordered. He told us about the specials so we went with trying the baked scallops. I'd asked for 2 and he accidentally brought 4 but immediately realized and without us having to even ask, he offered to take the extra two off. So grateful he caught that. My daughter doesn't like scallops and I just wanted to try them. I like sea scallops but these were bay scallops. I never asked so I shouldn't have assumed. It was a tasty appetizer, talked my daughter into trying it but she wasn't interested to try more. She loves Parmesan cheese and there was a lot but she wouldn't attempt the scallops. They were not under nor over cooked. I'm not sure what made it taste so unique but we both agreed we've never tasted anything like it. The shrimp causa wasnt the same flavor as months months ago. We don't live near so it's been a while since we've tried it. The alioli was a lot spicier than ever but still had good flavor but the causa was dry. But I had a side of alioli to help with that. Shrimp was tasty. Several other restaurants shrimp has been tasting off for months but this place shrimp tasted better. The Inca and chicha were delicious. I miss the cut up apple they use to put in it but still tastes fresh. Lomo Saltado was just two huge potato wedges and very few rice. Look at the photo. We did not eat any of it yet. This is the portion. It had good amount of jugó but the flavor wasnt like anything we'd tasted in Peru. BUT there's many many areas in Peru and we've only lived in a few and have only visited a handful more so just because it's not like any lomo we've tasted, doesn't mean it's not Peruvian. My daughter still liked it. It was high soy sauce and high vinegar taste. Lomo has both, but it was missing the cumin and flame flavor for me. We don't like potato wedges at all but she cut it up and made due with it. We were sooooo hungry from all day at the zoo so we almost finished all of it. None of the dishes are repeats for us but again, they taste good, just not the flavors we are use to, it's been a while so maybe that's why the causa and lomo tasted different. The server asked how is everything, im sure if we had said something he'd probably sought to help, but really it is what it is. I just think they cook differently then what we have had living in Peru. My husband had the seco here time ago, it's was incredibly delicious. He loves lamb. It was cooked perfectly and the frijoles were delicious as well. I hope the decide to put that dish back on the menu. Please. Not every visit is gonna go perfectly, that's not possible. Still a fun colorful restaurant with great service. Plates had great presentation. Not long at all ago I enjoyed the ceviche. I was just too cold to get it this time. Gonna got for it next time. Another couple got a huge salad. It looked so good, imma look for it on the menu next time.
