[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place aesthetically was gorgeous. Its elegant and casual at the same time[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It feels like a nice place to have small bites or just chill with some cocktails.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I loved that they have a happy hour lunch menu from 2-6. This makes it very affordable. They have a lunch special that comes with a soup or salad. The only decent lunch special was the galbi. I ordered a grilled chicken salad and that was delicious. My son's gai lan chicken lunch special needs a lot more flavor, but it looked divine! The curry katsu lunch special also needed more flavor. Its interesting how this place had items that lacked flavor and some other items was packed with flavor! The star of the show was the sashimi platter. The 45 piece for 150$. We ordered 2 of them. Which we couldn't even finish one. We also ordered oysters which was way more filling than we thought. I also really enjoyed the pork belly skewers as an appetizer. The shishito peppers weren't bad either. The karagge, was fine and the miso soup was very nicely flavored. The chicken eggrolls were fantastic. We got a rainbow roll and that was good. Generally, the fish was fresh so naturally the sushi was good. My salmon kama, I was a bit disappointed in bc it was... guess what... also bland. Lmao this isn't to take away from the other marvelous food they had. The pot stickers were just regular ol pot stickers. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the ambience here and the servers were low key.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They weren't a bother and they were nice. All and all, a wonderful dining place!

Came to eat with my friend and it's in a dining hall. All of the food we ordered was really fresh and delicious! It was a bit pricey but for the quality I will definitely come back. I want to try the happy hour too! We ordered the oysters with uni, TSA roll, and a sushi combo with some hand rolls and sashimi. Everything was so good!

What went well... servers were mostly attebtive and friendly. Wagyu smoked old fashioned $25... smooth, great taste Galbi. Soft and tender. Just enough fat to keep the great taste. Good size portion. Served sizzling on a bed of onions with a side of rice and Kim cheese Teriyaki salmon. Melted in your mouth, portion size was OK. Steak skewers. $6. Great for the price. Juicy and not dry. Ny daughter loved it Tempura - lots of pieces for appetizers so this was a plus Calamari was ok. Came with rings and legs and of course some breaded jalapeno to fill the bowl. It was OK. I just had fresh calamari so its so hard to judge after that one. I didnt care for the sauce that came with it so I used the tempura sauce. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This was in sky deck... first time being at what you would call an upscale food court. So many options to choose from. Glad to have picked this place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

GLASS BOX @ DEL MAR HIGHLANDS Parking is super easy here, they have a huge lot and it's completely free, which is honestly a big plus. It does get pretty packed, but I was still able to find a spot pretty quickly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is located in this cute little upstairs terrace-style complex with a bunch of other spots, so you can walk around and try different foods.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I actually had a reservation somewhere else for dinner, but I ended up just exploring because I'm not in Del Mar often and wanted to check everything out. One thing I loved is that they have happy hour every single day, Monday through Sunday. You rarely see that, especially on weekends, so that definitely stood out to me. The girl at the front (helping the server) had the best energy and was like, "It's happy hour every day, come on in!" and that honestly sold us. My boyfriend and I ended up just getting oysters since they were only $1. They were really fresh, which I appreciated, and they added a nice sauce on top. They were pretty small, but for $1, that's kind of expected. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall, the place is really cute with a fun, lively vibe. It's a bit tucked in with other spots, but that almost adds to the charm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff was super friendly, and I'd definitely come back to try more of their menu, especially the sushi.

We've enjoyed Happy Hours and lunches at Glass Box. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Located in the rear of the Sky Deck, the center of the restaurant is its namesake, a "Glass Box" that contains the sushi bar and a few tables. You can't miss it[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Most tables are outside the Box, subject to the noise of the Sky Deck, which can be exceedingly loud at night and on weekends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Some of our favorite menu items include: Oysters on the Half Shell (5/5) at Happy Hour ("Buck a Shuck Oysters", $1 each with minimum order of 6); Tuna Poke Tacos (5/5); Shrimp Tempura Roll (4/5); Spicy Tuna Roll (4/5), Rainbow Roll (4/5); Hamachi Kama (grilled yellowtail collar, 4/5). Our only real disappointment was the Pork Belly Skewers (2/5). Glass Box has several interesting cocktails that we've tried: House Margarita (3/5); Lychee Martini (4/5); Samurai Old Fashion (5/5). Service has been good to very good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Once again, the Sky Deck noise level detracts from the overall dining experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Very good every day 2-6 pm happy hour menu with $1 oyster and $5 Sapporo draft. Accept reservations and plenty of parking is available big plus. Quick and attentive service. Water always filled. If you want to add Uni on top of the oysters, just ask. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's an open air seating, and the bar is inside the glass box so small group can fit in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]A little noisy as expected.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean table and settings.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Use small square table so it can be set for big group.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Executing chef Eric walked around and chatted with patrons. Tried oysters, karagge, and salmon tacos. Not special but good for the price. Chase, the server, is attentive and efficient. Recommended to try the happy hour to start.

I came here again for happy hour recently and the service was fast and friendly. I was thankful we were able to sit down even without a reservation. I ordered a Beef Skewer, California Rolls, and Chicken Fried Rice. I appreciated that the beef was cooked well. It was juicy and it wasn't overly salty. The California rolls were good! They gave us sliced ginger and wasabi. The chicken fried rice was enough for two people. Rice was well prepared and had a good amount of chicken in it. Enjoyable dinner for 2! Ate in under 30 min! Would recommend.

My husband and I love sushi so we've tried a lot of different sushi spots around SD and we find ourselves always coming back to this one. Not only is the food absolutely delicious, but their menu offers a variety of food aside from just sushi, so if you aren't in the mood for sushi- or dining with people who don't like sushi (hard to believe there are such people but there are!), you can definitly find something else to eat and enjoy! In addition to their TSA roll, which is my fave, I also love their Zen wings, longevity noodles and oysters! Restaurant is small but we've never had issues getting a reservation! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sitting in the "glassbox" is nice as well![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They do have high chairs so kid friendly is a plus![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Happy hour food was fantastic - such a great treat after a hike. The prices are otherwise really high if you don't come at happy hour. I loved the sushi tacos, skewers, chicken karaage, and sushi roll. The edamame and oysters were just okay - really small oysters but only $1 at happy hour each. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance gorgeous.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was good.

Our favorite Japanese restaurant in the area. This place truly has everything to satisfy your cravings. Beyond their artisan rolls and fresh sushi/sashimi, their kitchen dishes are outstanding--sometimes we come just for those alone. We especially love their Taiwanese beef noodle soup. It reminds me of my years in Taiwan--authentic, rich, and full of flavor. Service is always attentive, and they have a great selection of cocktails to pair with your meal. They really have something for everyone. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Located inside SkyDeck, which adds to the experience with its fun, lively vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    HAMACHI KAMA!
    Suzanne C.

Wow wow wow! We stopped in for happy hour. The prices are great. But the food was even better! The hamachi kama was the best we've ever had. The garage chicken was crispy and hot. Chase our server was very nice and makes a great margarita. We shall be back!

    Sandra C.

We ordered a variety of dishes sharing family style. The service was good and with our server Jon making suggestions among the sushi and the cooked/kitchen items. Dishes we loved: *kalbi (short ribs) *salmon kama (grilled collarbone) *TSA roll *samurai roll *Hanabi "crispy rice" *chicken katsu (fried cutlet with curry sauce and bok choy) *sea bass The dishes we thought were on the normal spectrum: *kimchi fried rice (a little bland, needed much more spice and flavor) *terryaki salmon (needed a kick, seasoning) [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is located at "The Sky Deck" in Del Mar -- which is a large upstairs structure (part of a large mall complex) that is like a fancy food court. It has a common area with many open air bars and restaurants.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place had a glass box (see thru doors) around the sushi bar. We sat outside the glass box in the open area[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. It's not that big of a restaurant so it's a good idea to make reservations. Thank you for a great dining experience. We would like to come back to try HH and brunch/lunch on a weekend.

Love love LOVE happy hour here at Glass Box. Family and I came in for a last minute belated VDay dinner and the kindest servers were able to squeeze us in--thank you for accommodating us guys! Again, the happy hour deal literally such a steal and every item we've tried has been amazing. Some favorites include the chicken karaage, pork belly skewers, $1 oysters, and the shrimp tempura sushi roll. I love the vibes and ambiance every time I come and I'd just love to try the omakase experience in the box one day.

Portions are generous, and I loved that they offer such a wide variety of Asian cuisines under one roof, great for groups where everyone's craving something different. That said, if you're looking for a standout in one specific cuisine, you're probably better off at a dedicated spot. Each dish was good, but not great, it's more "solid all-rounder" than "best in class." A few dishes also leaned a little one-note, either too salty or too sweet, so the balance wasn't quite what you'd get from a place specializing in just one style. Still, the price point is fair, the vibe is fun, and it's a great pick for a group night out where everyone wants something different! Finally just a shout out to their Midnight Mahjong nights on Friday! Such a fun idea and a really amazing opportunity to play the game and have a night out with tasty drinks and nibbles! Tbh, not that many fun late night hangs in the Carmel Valley area, so a very welcome addition!

Shortly after I arrived, the food was delivered. She was happy with her chirashi bowl ($36), but I was extremely disappointed with my salmon "belly" sashimi. It was not salmon belly, and they charged me $24 for 4 skimpy pieces that were not fresh. It smelled and tasted fishy. The pieces were the same cut as what she got in her chirashi bowl, only her pieces were noticeably larger! I don't mind paying $6 a piece, if it were fresh and the cut slightly larger. After the disappointing pieces of salmon, I ended up just ordering agadashi tofu. In hindsight, I should've just had my daughter order that for me and skip the so-called salmon belly sashimi. This restaurant is very close to my office, and it's a convenient location to meet with my daughter after we both get off work, but given the low quality and high price of the sashimi, I'll have to find another place for us to meet after work when we want sushi. For me, this was an extremely disappointing experience, but since my daughter enjoyed her chirashi, I would give it an average score of 3 stars. It's definitely no longer a 5-star establishment. I think other people may have also caught on, because the restaurant was empty. At 7pm on a Tuesday, there were only 2 other tables, a party of 2 and party of 4 on either side of us. No one new came in while we were there ....and for good reason!

We returned again, this time just the two of us, and once again we really enjoyed our experience. Service was welcoming and attentive and we couldn't have asked for a better time. Definitely going to keep returning and appreciate all that Ken does!
