    Glasgow Fort
    Rebecca D.

I don't drive and as a non-driver, The Fort is kind of a pain to get to. Their website points out they have ample parking space (which they do) and that you can also take a bus or, weirdly, a train. Note that the nearest station is Easterhouse and it's a 40 minute walk away. Heads up for anyone not from Glasgow: Getting the train to Easterhouse and then walking the last 40 minutes to The Fort is a strong contender for Worst Idea Ever. Busses work better, and both the 38 (First Group) and the X19 (Stagecoach) run here from the city centre. It's outdoors, which is an odd choice given the Scottish weather, but it's also huge. This, combined with the late opening hours make it a good alternative to shopping in Glasgow City Centre, especially, again, if you're a driver. You're only really going to find massive, mainstream, highstreet chain stores here though, don't expect any small independent traders or unexpected gems. That's fine though, there's a time and a place for this kind of shopping and the Fort is the place, at least.

I suppose I should write a review of the Fort seeing as I'm never away from here. It holds a bit of a soft spot in my heart because I worked here for 12 years (10 of those in Boots) so I have a lot of fab memories of lunching outside and quick shopping trips on my breaks. In good weather the Fort is great. There's loads of room, despite the car parks possibly suggesting otherwise and all the stores are quite big in comparison to city centre counterparts. That means more room for browsing without feeling a bit cramped and uncomfortable. There are a good few options to stop for a coffee, so if Starbucks is queued out the door, Costa, Millie's, Thorntons and Patisserie Valerie are only a few metres away. There are a good variety of stores and I find it quite good for shopping for all members of the family. I will jump on the bandwagon though, the Fort is in desperate need of a Primark as H&M are the only other place offering this type of affordable basics. There's a small play park just by Boots which is ideal if you have to bribe a toddler with something fun at the end of your shopping run and there are also plenty of options to grab something to eat. The welcome addition of M&S food makes this an even more desirable destination. Obviously if the weather isn't great then it can be a bit of a nightmare up here and at peak times, especially Christmas, parking your car can be enough to put you off visiting at all! But the opening hours are extremely convenient - the longest shopping hours of any shopping mall in the UK - and with a multi story almost complete between Smyths Toy Store and the Cinema, it's looking like it's only going to get better at Glasgow Fort.

This was my first time here, suggested by the Amigo's shadow. He had been here many times, and quite frankly, it worked out well. As we were there on a Thursday evening, it was wonderfully quiet too. What I really appreciate about this place is the late night shopping hours. For people who haven't been leaving the lab until around about 9 pm each day (after starting at 8 am) and don't have life because of it, late opening hours are a blessing. The range of shops at our disposal was nice as well - unfortunately I didn't get to spend as much time in the shops that I wanted to go into. I didn't even know we had a KIKO shop, but it's exciting to have found it. The Zara shop is huge, and well organised and to my excitement, tidy! I can't stand the one on Buchanan street, just because it is always so messy! It has a great range of shops available, a huge boots and TK Maxx, as well as a Kiko Milano make up shop, which is fantastic because I didn't think we had one in Glasgow. I think you'd be able to find pretty much everything and anything you need here. Except books maybe, because I don't remember there being a book shop. There's a good range of restaurants to choose from too; the usual chain restaurants including Nando's, Pizza Hut, Frankie and Benny's and TGI Fridays, among others. The VUE also has a cinema here, so you could honestly spend all day here - with free parking, nonetheless! Always a bonus if you ask me. Otherwise I can't say that it isn't freezing cold and I don't think the architects through through building an outside, uncovered shopping complex in Glasgow.

I don't mind this place, parking is plentiful and there are a decent amount of stores I only ever visit for specific items, in and out, couldn't think of anything worse than shopping here when it's raining It's constantly been developed over the last few years, cinema and eateries 18 months ago now a marks and Spencer's in the last 8 months Seems a few shops are being renovated too Nice to see them developed However more stores require more parking and that's where this place will ultimately fail to attract when people can't park, build a multi-storey next

Located off the M8, this open-air shopping centre is easily accessible from most places in the region. Externally it looks more like a retail park than a shopping centre and I can't decide what to make of the fact that it is outdoors - fresh air, great, but surely the point of a shopping centre is so that you are not exposed to the elements? My mum, armed with her new Sat Nav, & I found our way here in search of the big Hobby Craft which was the purpose of the trip. However, it was about the only 'unusual' shop here - the rest are pretty much all high street stores...except...no Marks and Spencers!! Shocker. The Hobby Craft is certainly huge but also disappointingly expensive. The Fort is open until 10pm during the week so handy for those nearby who need to pick up something to wear quickly or a last minute present but, in my opinion, not worth a long journey.

The first time I went to the Fort - sent off to do an errand for my then boss - I got horribly, horribly lost. It was one of those times when you're in the middle of an unknown area of the city with absolutely no idea where you are and your sat nav announces "you have reached your destination" and your heart sinks. Because you haven't. It took an hour and a half of frantic phonecalls to my boyfriend with google maps and my boss with a proper map before I got there. I tell you, when I finally turned the corner to the sight of the giant Glasgow Fort sign, I nearly cried tears of happiness. I don't think I've ever been quite so pleased to see a shopping centre. You will be pleased to know, though, that it was just be being a bit of an idiot really. If you stick to the M8, and don't try to go the back way, then you really can't miss it. The Fort has just about everything you could need for a shopping trip. Just about all the big names in high street fashion, as well as the biggest Boots I have ever seen in my life, lots of cafes and restaurants and home furnishing stores. One of the highlights is an Asda store that doesn't sell food - just clothes, DVDs, games, CDs, electrical and homeware. Surprisingly good!

Aww I loved this! Nice to see dogs being catered for too!

There's a few new eating places too - Giraffe, Zizzi and Carluccio's is opening later this year. Things that aren't so good about it: - It's a bit of a strange shape so it means you'll walk from one end to the other, and then remember something you need at M&S or Tesco, and have to walk all the way back again - The car park is a bit of a nightmare. I try to avoid visiting on the weekend as even then it's hard to park. At Christmas you'd be better off getting public transport if you're really desperate to shop here. - The toilets seem like they're really far apart I go here when I need to, but I rarely visit just for a wander around the shops anymore.

This is an upmarket shopping centre which has more expensive high street shops like Reiss, Ted Baker, Vivienne Westwood and Cos (which I'm still yet to check out!). The centre is certainly decorated to match the crowd it's looking to attract - glitzy, glam and always clean and tidy. I like the size of the centre as well - it's very dinky but still has lots of shops and is easy to navigate. There's also a host of restaurants, bars and cafés but I'll be honest - I've not visited many of them. I ate at Barca probably 4 years ago and also one of the places on the bottom floor but I think that's changed hands. One down side is that if you are dining at a restaurant on the lower level, parents will tend to let their kids run riot in the centre circle which can be a bit of a mood-killer. Princes Square doesn't have a car park due to its location but it is really close to train and subway. If you do really fancy driving, probably St Enoch or Mitchell Street are the closest car parks.

The staff were really helpful, even with half an hour to close, and suggested I do take the bigger size as your feet sweat. He also said if I wasn't happy with them after wearing indoors only, to come back and they'd trade sizes. I really appreciate honest staff, and saying this persuaded me to make the purchase as I did have the guarantee of being able to return. The clothes stock can be hit and miss, they didn't have the specific leggings I like, but they do get stock in 3 times a week, so its just a luck game!
