As far as shopping centres go, Buchanan Galleries is a pretty good one. Located on Buchanan Streets Style Mile, the Galleries are full of moderate to expensive shops. Split over 3 floors, you'll find all sorts of food/coffee places and a range of high street stores like Next, jewellers, art shops, John Lewis. And Lego. Yes, Buchanan Galleries is home to The Lego Store. Pretty much everytime i come in here I HAVE to visit the Lego Store. It's an addiction ;( And I don't want help with it. Not everyone likes shopping centres but in a city centre full of high street stores, and with the pressure to move those high street stores to the out of town centres with the cheaper rent, it's easy to see why malls like this exist. As shopping centres go, you could do worse than the Buchanan Galleries. For one thing, it's not too bad too look at. It blends nicely with the buildings around it and, as is clear to see from the slope on the second (first?) floor it has been carefully designed to intersect with the corner that joins Buchanan Street with Sauchiehall Street. Within the Galleries there's a great range of stores - it's not all just ladies fashion, even if that does make up the majority of what's on offer. There are also gift shops, men's fashion, places selling candles, cosmetics and toiletries, toy shops (Lego!), jewellery, tech, stationary and of course, food and drink. Oh, and there's a John Lewis. It might not be the most exciting, most unique selection on offer in Glasgow, but sometimes all you're shopping for is a basic pair of jeans, a birthday card and a pretzel to keep you going. The Buchanan Galleries is a great shopping centre. Especially when outside it's raining, or snowing, or just generally grim and you'd like to forget about it all for a little while. In all seriousness, you could lose the best part of a day in this shopping centre. There is a multitude of eateries, from the fabulous Crepe a Croissant to a slightly dodgy food hall via multiple coffee shops and a Ben & Jerry's Ice cream counter. You'll also find plenty of large clothes/department stores to keep you amused. There's a pretty big Next with three floors, one devoted to women's wear, one to menswear and one to homeware. Plus, the H&M inside the Buchanan Galleries shouldn't be overlooked just because a new one has opened outside it. (The new store is technically in the Buchanan Galleries, but it can't be reached from inside the shopping centre so therefore it doesn't really count). The Buchanan Galleries is a brilliant shopping centre right, bang slap, in the centre of town - close to the bus station, train stations and underground - it's home to most big names, including, but to name a few, H&M, John Lewis, Boots, and many many more. Ok, it does have the odd random shop, and yes, the foodcourt could use some updating, but all in all, it's brilliant when, and if, you need anything from a pharmacy, to jewellery, to furniture or flights. To give you a very rough overview, (as I know everyone else has gone on about the whole 'it's a shopping centre' thing) when it first opened, it was the biggest of it's kind...waaay! The Buchanan Galleries is a rather large mall, right in the centre of Glasgow. If it is raining out on Buchanan Street, just make your way to the top end (H&M and Paperchase end) and just take cover in here. When you walk in, you are greeted with a small lobby area which has Costa Coffee, a Millie's Cookies concession and a whisky shop. This area can get quite crowded so I just head straight for the escalator up to the main mall. At the start of the main concourse, there is a large Boots and a huge flagship Next store. In this balcony area there is a foodcourt which went bankrupt a few months ago but since then, the Burger King has reopened. The only function of that floor for me is the toilets which aren't even that pleasant. As you continue along the concourse, there are some nice shops like the Lego store, a Starbucks (only to be used if the Buchanan Street store is busy), Hollister, Aaran Aromatics, River Island, H&M etc. You get the idea. At the other end is Glasgow's John Lewis store. It is apparently the biggest store in Scotland but the Edinburgh John Lewis feels bigger. There is a cafe on the second floor which is ok but I don't really recommend it. The pink lady lemonade is nice though! There is a car park attached to JL but stay away from it! One time we were stuck on the 6th floor for 45 minutes and were actually considering abandoning our car and coming back later. Please sort out your gridlock BG! Apart from the car park, Buchanan Galleries beats St Enoch every time! The St Enoch shops get boring fast. H&M, BHS, Mothercare zzzzz. There is always something new in here. However, the St Enoch centre has a better car park and a better toilet facility. read more

Given my love affair with John Lewis, located in Buchanan Galleries, you would think that the Galleries themselves could muster up more than two stars. They get one star for the range of shops which is pretty good and another star for a well lit, well laid out and unfortunately very expensive car park. However, this is where I run out of nice things to say about Buchanan Galleries. The food court is a grim parade of fast food chains with plastic chairs which must have been designed by someone who has heavily invested in osteopaths. The layout of the escalators and lifts makes no sense and getting between the floors when you can use the escalators is less than fun throw a buggy into the equation meaning a need to use the lifts and my blood pressure goes up several notches. Unfortunately, the genius design team put the only toilets in the centre on the third floor - oh joy. When I've fought my way up to the third floor I expect it to be clean and well looked after. It isn't. There are lots of cubicles and lots of sinks. Unfortunately, it seemed like most of the cubicles were empty of loo roll and for some reason only 2 of the several sinks had water coming to them. Of course this meant that there was no soap in the vicinity of this sink. Lovely. Given the retailers they house and the prices of the car park I'm always left feeling slightly shortchanged by Buchanan Galleries. read more

It feels like the Buchanan Galleries have been sitting at the top of Buchanan Street for eternity, but I remember what this area was like before it opened. Barren and full of decaying old hotels, you walked hastily through this area before getting out at the other, grander side of the street, to be rewarded with Princes Square. Before the Buchanan Galleries was born, this space was a derelict, unused dodgy wasteland, so the grand opening in 1999 was welcomed with open arms. The building itself is beautiful from the outside, with modern architects getting it right for a change and keeping in step with the style of the Concert Hall. Inside it's huge, with two floors filled with shops, a food court and a ground floor (that's not technically the ground floor since it's on a lowered street level) filled with coffee shops (Brewhaha and long serving Costa) and a smoothie stall. The Galleries hasn't changed that much in the years it has been opened. It consists of high street stores - some upmarket, some within reasonable price range. John Lewis covers four floors and has been there since the opening. H&M keeps playing musical chairs (or outlets in this case) and moves about constantly, but it's one of the main fixtures of this mall and is a dominating force. I, like Steph, stick to the likes of River Island, Miss Selfridge and sometimes venture into Jane Norman, but still maintain it's the best mall in the city centre. The late 20th century Sauchiehall Centre is now defunct and consists of massive outlets, and St Enoch lost its grip on the market when this place opened. However, since the powers that be along at St Enoch is reinventing it as a swish new mall, Buchanan Galleries may have some competition for people's affections! read more

Anytime I'm in town I usually find myself going in here, whether it's to do a bit of shopping, waste time or to escape that bloody rain! I really like this shopping centre, I would probably say it's the best one in Glasgow that I've been to so far. It's in a perfect location in the heart of the city centre, it's got a good variety of shops, plenty of food and drink options, and oh, did I mention it keeps you out of the rain? Compared to other shopping centres, I notice a big difference with this place. It's so much more modern than the rest of them, very bright and clean inside and out. So it was of no surprise when I researched it and saw that it's one of the newer ones built in Glasgow. The building looks big from the outside, but it's not until you're inside that you realise just how big! It covers four floors and each floor feels like it goes on forever. Like I said, it does have a wide variety of stores. One side is occupied completely by John Lewis, and the other side has a three level Next. It also has a lot of the regular high street stores, so there is plenty of options fashion wise for men and women with stores like River Island, H&M, Bank, Levi's, Hollister and Quiz. There's a bit of everything though from jewellery stores, perfume stores, toy stores, phone stores to even a hairdressers! All of these stores are divided throughout floors 1-3, the fourth floor, which is where the bathrooms are and a small internet station, is pretty much just an entire food court. The good thing about this food court is that it's not just your typical McDonalds, KFC, or Pizza Hut food court, you won't find any of those here. Instead there is a Burger King, Eastern Treats, Caffe Italiano and Café Select. A few other cafe's can be found on the other floors too, so there are a lot of options. The same can be said for drinks. There's a Starbucks, Costa Coffee and a Caffe Nero, along with a wide range of independent stalls that sell food and drink. As you might imagine, you can lose track of time in here and the place can become very busy, especially on weekends. Another huge benefit that this place has to help deal with that though is their huge car park! This is located beside John Lewis and has easy access to all floors. The building itself also has many access points meaning you can enter no matter what side of town you arrive from. This place is well worth taking a stroll through if you're in town and to top it off it has a Millies and a Thorntons inside.....if those alone aren't enough to make you want to check it out then I have no idea what will! read more

One of the least horrendous shopping centres in Glasgow. It's bright and clean, and not too off-putting, except on Saturdays when it can get extremely busy. It has pretty much every shop you need on a trip into town. Clintons for your cards (or Scribbler for the more hip 'n' happenin' of us!), several clothes shops, Swatch and a couple of jewellery shops for gifts (or a treat for yourself?!). There's also a Boots, Lakeland for kitchen goodies, a Build A Bear for the kiddies, and of course the Lego Store, yay! There are also some more unusual 'shops' in the form of stand alone stalls, which offer services such as embroidering names onto clothes, bags, etc, and a stall upstairs selling classic football t-shirts with some tongue in cheek humour. It has the only John Lewis in the Glasgow area, with a cafe serving tasty sandwiches and awesome cakes, and an extensive food court on the top floor if that's not your cuppa tea. With the extension of the Galleries out onto Buchanan Street there's now a Paperchase, as well as yet more clothes and shoe shops. With a wee Sainsburys tucked away at one end, you can complete your shopping trip by picking up a few bits for dinner or drinks at a friend's. If I have to come into town for several things, this is usually my first, and often only, stop. Straight out the underground at Buchanan Street Station, get all you need then jump back on the tube. I am here literally all the time. it is in the middle of the city centre and there is a car park in the building (which I think is very expensive to park in) so it is very convenient whether it is to shop or as a meeting location with someone. It does have quite a lot of shops, but I only really shop in the one area of Buchanan as i find that there isn't much on the second floor at all. It has your main high street shops - H&M, River Island, Mango, Boots etc. There's also a big John Lewis inside too. However after returning back to Glasgow after being in the US for 9 months, I was so gutted that they had moved Miss Selfridge! H&M, Miss Selfridge, and River Island were literally the only shops I liked going into, and they were all next to each other which was super convenient - so i'm pretty bummed that I need to go all the way down to Argyle Street now for Miss Selfridge. There is a food court on the very top floor where there is a Burger King, asian cuisine...and a few others that I can't remember as I never go there to eat. Not that I don't like it, there are just better places to eat I guess. Oh, and there are always groups of kids around 14-16 that just hangs about up there, which can get a little annoying. read more

I will never quite be able to bring myself to award a mall five stars, but Buchanan Galleries would get it if I could. Why? Well I'll tell you why: 1. It's smack in the city center. I always prefer a mall that draws people into the city and is easily accessible by public transportation, as opposed to one that is far flung and you have to own a car to get to it. So, kudos to the city planners who put this baby in place. 2. Some may prefer Silverburn, but Silverburn gives me panic attacks. BG, while certainly large and bustling, has excellent feng shui. It's much easier and more pleasant to flow along through it than through others of its ilk. 3. So many stores! Yes, it is high-street-fashion heavy, but there is a little something for everyone--including my personal favorite of randomness, the foodie's gift shop Oil & Vinegar. 4. You Glaswegians take this for granted but you have cafe culture down to a science. I am in a constant state of temptation to sit down and enjoy a latte and a croissant. Buchanan Galleries provides plenty of opportunities for this. 5. John Lewis! Need I say more? This place is heaven. read more

I have been shopping here since it opened in 1999. Not much has changed - John Lewis is basically staple visit and it great to see that many retailers still have the confidence to open up shop. I am especially pleasantly surprised by the Hollister Shop finally a shop front that is not glass and square. For anything else you can find your usual fashion sellers like GAP, NEXT, Warehouse, Levis, but also GAME, and Thorton's Chocolate, Ryman, several shoe retailers and Chinese health shops. No particular high end shops, but for the area well suited. Still it is a shopping mall and by current standards not that big. I prefer a more variety in shop fronts. read more

I practically lost the will to live after the closure of Ottakars bookshop at the end of Buchanan Galleries a few years ago. Thankfully though, despite its ever-changing retailers at the northern entrance, the galleries remains a very good shopping centre. But have you noticed anything in particular about this place? Eh, CLOTHES OVERLOAD!! Yep, Buchanan Galleries is dominated by fashion retailers, so much so that it has TWO H&M's, plus another huge one just outside, so it's pretty much three. Can't quite get my head round that one. The fact the galleries is dominated by clothes shops ain't a bad thing at all though - I mean that's what most of us shop for isn't it? Levi's, Next, Topman, Republic, they're all here. Hell I've even been dragged into La Senza before. There is some good non-clothes shops; Game, Boots, Thorntons, a massive John Lewis. It's probably lacking in the entertainment sector more than anything but who can complain when there's a huge HMV across the road? Though I would advise extreme caution with the Galleries' big car park - it is an absolute hellhole. read more

This shopping centre has one of the best locations in Glasgow being in the centre of town it is always busy and has lots of the usual high street names such as Miss Selfridge's, topman, John Lewis, Oasis, Mango, T-mobile, Swatch Etc. It is a nice clean safe place and out of the ever so regular rain it makes it easier to shop with all the stores in one place. The food court and other food shops here are not the best but as it is so central it is only a short walk to find something nicer if burger king is not your thing. There is also a car park connected to the galleries which makes it easy to nip in to town and get some things without worrying about where to park and how far away from the shops you are. read more

The Buchanan Galleries is my favourite shopping centre in Glasgow. When it first opened, I remember being disappointed. It had a lot of hype surrounding it and I found that there weren't actually many shops I liked in it. Well, over the years it has become a bit more teens and twenties friendly. They have a minimal number of phone shops, plenty of fashion clothing stores, some accessories places, with a dash of fun stuff like the Disney Store and Build a Bear thrown in. It's also home to John Lewis, which adds a touch of class. As a fairly new shopping centre (I think it opened in around 2002?) it's clean and busy without signs of becoming too shabby too soon. The couple of Internet points/computers that are located on the 2nd floor are over priced & very slow to the point of frustrating slow & make the PCs in most library's seem like gaming PCs in comparison. The food court is small & limited in choice. Though there's reasonable amount of shops to choose from & conveniently located for access by car, train & bus. read more

The only shops I use inside the actual galleries is John Lewis and Boots, since the add ons outside I spend most of my time shopping there. The worst part of the galleries and puts me off is the toilets they are very outdated, grimy and feel dirty. You would think with the amount of money they have put into the galleries the gross toilets would be something they would look into its a really big let down. read more

This is my favourite shopping centre in Glasgow. It has plenty of natural light and the concourses are light and spacious. There are a good range of shops, from clothes shops to jewellers, an optician, and several picture/art shops, as well as the big John Lewis at one end and the big Boots at the other end. The shops are mostly the higher quality end of high street stores, and some of my favourites are here such as Oasis, Ernest Jones, and Joy. The high concentration of shops makes it very easy to shop for a specfic item - for example recently we were looking for a watch for my boyfriend's birthday present, and had 3 good jewellers to compare less than a minute from each other. So it's very efficient. However, I'm not keen on the mini shops that seem to have taken residence in the centre of the concourse. I'm just not keen on this in any shopping centre - there are already enough shops and it reduces the flow of the place - it's starting to feel like things are getting shoe-horned in to every available space. Plus, I don't want to see people getting their eyebrows plucked while I'm just going about my business, ick. I think that's pretty strange. A recent addition is a Champagne Bar in the middle of the second floor. It looks pretty classy, so it's better than eyebrow plucking, but I just don't get why you would use this as a customer. Why wouldn't you just go to a nice bar? It's just a bit odd. Plus some of these little island shops are verging on the brink of being quite naff, and I don't think that's right for Buchanan Galleries. The car park is very good - spacious, well lit, and with clear pedestrian walkways. I feel quite safe in here at night - probably the only car park I could say that about, and there are payment machines on every level. There's also a food court, which I'm never in, so I won't pass comment on. But the toilets let Buchanan Galleries down. There are always some that are out of order, the taps never seem to work properly, and there are an insufficient number of hand driers for the amount of sinks there are. It always seems a bit messy too. They could do much better here. There's a juice bar on the ground floor, which pleases me greatly, and there are plenty of seating areas dotted about which are handy if you need a wee sit down. Overall it's a lovely shopping centre, and I hope they maintain their good standards. read more

Buchanan Galleries is, in my opinion, the best shopping centre in the city. It is right in the centre, where Buchanan Street and Sauchiehall Street collide. Transport links-wise it has its own gigantic car park, and is right next to Buchanan bus station, Buchanan Street Underground and Queen Street Train station. There are over 80 shops in here, mostly quality high street names. The food court on the top level lets it down slightly as it only has a Burger King, Café Italiano, Eastern Treats or Cafe Select. Elsewhere, however, there's Starbucks and Costa, as well as Crepe a Croissant. There are cash machines-a-plenty and the toilets are always decent enough. My favourite shops in here are Boots, La Senza, Lakeland, Oil and Vinegar and River Island. read more

Buchanan Galleries holds John Lewis which we frequent rather often. We also enjoy popping into the Lego store and Boots. They do have a Levi's store, Ecco, Jones Bootmaker shoe store and other shops we've never even been into. It feels like a basic mall with nothing out of the ordinary. The lifts are awful and take forever. It's a bother when you have a pram. read more

Buchanan Galleries is a one stop shop for pretty much everything you could ever need in a shopping experience. Spread over 4 floors, it houses clothes shops, toy shops, a huge department store, eateries, coffee houses and everything in between. I prefer to shop on Buchanan Street though, or really anywhere else, because I never seem to find what I want here. Maybe it's store overload, or maybe it's because the floors are the shiniest and slipperiest I have ever encountered and I'm always too busy making sure I stay upright rather than actually looking in windows. I only ever visit River Island, Miss Selfridge and John Lewis in here, so I am rarely in and about it, but I just feel like it's soul-less, and I can find much more of what I want on the high street. The new H&M is a welcome addition though. Not one of my favourites. read more

The shopping centre itself is quite nice with a lot a varied shops. However I went there because I was given a £100 Buchanan Galleries gift card to use for my birthday. I thought would get a new mobile phone, BUT NO, none of the phone shops accepted the gift card, it turns out that many other outlets in the Galleries don't accept the card either like travel agents and the hairdressing salons. It's a big con, any gift card is usually as good as cash but I was told that the purchaser should had read the terms and conditions before buying the gift card. So I had the embarrassment at different shops refusing the card while I was being charged a fortune for being parked in the Galleries car park, never again! read more
