I had heard so many rave reviews about Silverburn I was slightly underwhelmed when I visited it for the first time a few weeks ago. That's not to put it down - it is clean, stylish and modern with most of the shops you want to visit on the High Street. But, in my opinion, it is not massively different from Braehead. Silverburn does offer a range of good eateries, including Wagamama, La Tasca and Yo Sushi. It is easily accessible using an express bus which leaves Union Street in Glasgow. The one store which is glaringly absent from Silverburn is Primark; apparently Marks and Spencer refused to join the shopping centre if the discount brand was also going to be there. They were worried Primark would attract the cheapos were weren't willing to spend money in expensive stores such as Marks.

I was dragged here recently for the first time recently and was quite impressed to be fair. There's so many big shopping centres in Glasgow, it's hard to really stand out. This one happens to look really nice which makes a difference and really good places for eating. There's some fancier shops in here that almost make the new wing of St. Enoch Centre look as though they are competing in a way. That being said, there are lots of shops for different budgets as well. Not my favourite shopping centre, but that's due to its geographical location.

This superb out of town shopping centre is a must see if in Glasgow. It's easily accessible south west of the city. There are ample free car parking spaces. Inside the long shopping complex are the anchors of TESCO Extra and M&S at either ends and Debenhams in the middle. There are lots of eateries with most well known brands, so really are spoilt for choice. In the centre of the mall are lots of concession stands, again worth visiting. There are a couple of play things for kids and a cinema complex so one can spend a whole day here.

Now I'm no fan of shopping centres, too many people crammed into a small space, all trudging along. Yeah, with Scottish rain they do have some benefits but I enjoy walking down a high street and getting some "fresh" air. I also take no pleasure in shopping but as I was going to the cinema I thought it would be rude not have a look. They're really improved the food courts and you can eat anything fancy. In fact there are restaurants at all entrances. The centre is bright and felt airy though, for a Saturday, it was surprisingly quiet. I'd hate to see it around Christmas when it must be mobbed. it was Also lovely to see all the units in use. There appears to be something for everyone including a Pure Spa upstairs and a Mobility centre (you can borrow a Mobility scooter to help you get round), aye, it was all right.

    Silverburn inside. Decors lovely!

As a local and within walking distance, i find the centre to be great! As s young guy who likes new clobver and trainers, it has Van Mildert, JD Sports, a brand new 'Penguin' store and Foot Asylum/Office aswell so sone good stuff. Has a great Wagamamas aswell. Try the Katsu...you will not be disappointed

Silverburn is still quite new and it's got a high-end leaning. The ceilings are sooo high and the floor is the shiniest thing I have even seen. In fact, I think the floor made me a bit ill: I felt kind of dizzy and got really blinky. Shops such as Coast, L.K. Bennett, Swarovski and - my favourite - Kurt Geiger make it feel quite exclusive. There is a really good mix of stores for al budgets though. There are a few good places to eat, like La Tasca and Wagamama - no McDonalds here. You could get a whole day out of this place, but I'm thinking the nearer it gets to Christmas, the more chockers it will be.

When Silverburn first opened I admit that I was not impressed. To me, it was just another impersonal shopping mall with all the same shops as elsewhere except massive, unfriendly versions. However, now I am hooked. When all the other shopping malls get so busy that you can't move Silverburn remains spacious, chilled out and elegant. I particularly love it at this time of year when the lovely white, silver and blue Christmas lights open it up even more. Plus, there is an advantage to those huge shops - the stock is pretty damned good and you often find a little unique purchase from your favourite store that you wouldn't have discovered elsewhere. There are no pound shops and that kinda store here - the closest you'll get to that is the fantastic TK Maxx. The rest are a mixture of high street and designer stores as well as little exclusive stalls selling bags, jewellery etc in the middle. Despite the large carpark, you will struggle to get a space here in the lead up to Christmas or at weekends and perhaps a better system needs to be in place. Otherwise, great for a day's shopping.

When I visited yesterday (for the first time) I…read morediscovered there's actually barely any shops in Shawlands Arcade so I couldn't award it more stars even if I wanted to. It's like those urban adventuring photos you see online of abandoned shopping centres, overgrown with plants - although I'll concede this isn't actually overgrown with plants. I'd actually been quite intrigued by Shawlands Arcade and had even researched it online to see what shops were here. The info on their website is well out of date as I discovered that most shops are empty inside the arcade. So what is there? As at December 2014 there's Farmfoods, a picture framing store with an incredibly creepy moving mannequin out the front (not sure if he's meant to be santa or a wizard), a bargain store (notably called "The Bargain Store"), a Debra charity shop and the Kiosk. The rest of the shops lay empty and give the whole arcade an incredibly dismal, depressing vibe. Would I return here? No, honestly not. Perhaps one day someone with a bit of a vision will take over the arcade and turn it into a delightful shopping centre with lovely local shops, with tasty treats and an interesting bookshop. For now, it's really not worth visiting. In happier news, I believe the car park is quite cheap, especially now parking prices on Kilmarnock Road have gone up. Update: someone tweeted me to mention there is an Art Village in one of the shops, but it's closed on a Monday so look like I'll have to go back to check that out.

The Arcade has been a controversial presence in Shawlands for a few years: it has had a high…read moreturnover of shops and the lacklustre building makes it something of an eyesore. Yet it seems to be perking up: The bookstore reopened, the supermarket is still busy and the cafe is one of the few places where an outside meal doesn't mean wet food and cold fingers. It is starting to become a little bit of a centre for Shawlands: a local church uses it for "healing prayer" on Saturday mornings, and the Christmas market is increasingly popular. It is heavy on the charity shops, and has one odd addition: the carpets and calendar store. The overall feel is slightly rundown and tired, and the combination of pound stores and local businesses is unique: it has never really become the super-mall of its ambitions. Moves are constantly afoot to regenerate the arcade: it has the advantage of being covered which, during the Glasgow winter, makes it the place to escape the bitter cold.

This is an upmarket shopping centre which has more expensive high street shops like Reiss, Ted Baker, Vivienne Westwood and Cos (which I'm still yet to check out!). The centre is certainly decorated to match the crowd it's looking to attract - glitzy, glam and always clean and tidy. I like the size of the centre as well - it's very dinky but still has lots of shops and is easy to navigate. There's also a host of restaurants, bars and cafés but I'll be honest - I've not visited many of them. I ate at Barca probably 4 years ago and also one of the places on the bottom floor but I think that's changed hands. One down side is that if you are dining at a restaurant on the lower level, parents will tend to let their kids run riot in the centre circle which can be a bit of a mood-killer. Princes Square doesn't have a car park due to its location but it is really close to train and subway. If you do really fancy driving, probably St Enoch or Mitchell Street are the closest car parks.
