Anytime I'm feeling a little stuck for a gift, I always take a quick wander round Sloans Market. It basically takes up the area of a couple of lanes connecting Buchanan St and Argyle St - with Sloans bar also, bang in the middle (but that's a whole other review!). I was last in here before Xmas, and never cease to be amased by the weird and wonderful things on display - apart from the usual local art and jewellery, you will find ties and bowties for dogs (for all types of event, too!), some `interesting` clothes, and food/sweets. The Sloan's Artisan Market is great fun. One of those places that you can always rely on to be selling new and exciting things, every single weekend. It offers a nice break from a sometimes slightly hectic city centre and it's the perfect place to shop for unique gifts, jewellery, trinkets and sweeties. Oh, and if you want your fortune told there's a resident psychic because of course there is. Aside from visions of the future you can pick up original art work, home made soaps and all sorts of unexpected goodies. Bonus points if you wander inside into Sloan's itself to check out the stalls that are set up in the halls up the stairs. Incidentally, it's a great place to take visitors to the city, since so much of the stuff on sale is either locally made or locally themed. This makes it the ideal place for finding souvenirs and anyway, who doesn't love visiting local markets when they're travelling? read more

I thought Sloans was a market erected near Christmas time but I'm glad to see it's still existing two months later. I think the traders have permanent residence there at the weekends which is good news for people who want to hunt for gifts that diverge a little off the mainstream. A lot of the people who look after the stalls are the designers of what's on offer at Sloans, and their goods are of a high standard and lowered price. It's a compact wee market but it's got various specialities on offer. Expect to see lots of beautiful, locally designed jewellery, Rennie Mackintosh collections at very reasonable prices, prints of local and internationally famous paintings, handmade clothing, bags and the occasional tasty snack. It's great for birthday and Christmas presents, in particular for those who are looking for something truly one-of-a-kind. The trinkets in particular have that 'wow' factor, and should you choose to treat yourself you are bound to have people asking where you bought your purchase. Sloans is great because it's a market with quality that's also well organised. It's easily accessible, easy to travel to since it's just off Buchanan St and Argyle St and filled to burst with tasteful curiousities. My favourite purchases are my faux art nouveau necklace, a Rennie Mackintosh gift for my boyfriend's mum for a tenner (what a bargain!), and I have my eye on a bag with a Tunnock's Tea Cake printed on the front. A quick jaunt around Sloan's Market made for a pleasant wee break from the larger, more commercial shops on a Saturday afternoon of Christmas shopping in Glasgow. What's that?... You want some handmade soap for your gran? And a knitted hat for your mum? And some photography of old town Glasgow for your dad? Aye, all here! Ive been visiting the sloans market for years when i stumbled across it one christmas when out shopping. Its such a quirky place to have a market tucked away from the crazy place that is argyle street. I really love the diversity of traders where you can pick up all sorts from candles, jewellery to dog and pet products. Ive always found the stall holders to be friendly without pushing the hard sell too much and they are always more than happy to explain about their products. On some weekends the market continues inside sloans upstairs. The last time i was there Unfortunetly there was a power cut but the lovely sloans peeps improvised with lots of fairy lights and it made the place look even prettier. If you are looking for a gift that is that little bit more unusual then i would definitely head here. read more

This outdoor market is small but very conveniently located on Buchannan Street, so you usually don't have to go out your way if you're in town doing your shopping. It's open on Saturaday and Sunday mornings. It has a variety of great stalls selling jewellery, scarves, sweets, chocolates and novelty gifts. The products aren't cheap- but then you're paying for quality. No cheap knock-offs here but rather boutique style traders. Christmas shopping here I come. read more

I just love little markets come Christmas time where you can often pick up some unique treasures to pop in someone's Christmas gift/stocking. Sloans is a cut above many other markets - expect designer type jewellery, cute cupcakes and posh scarves at appropriate prices rather than cheap bits of tat. The only downfall is how busy it gets. More often than not you will have to wait your turn to be able to get a proper eye-full of the items. It's worth it though. read more

The market is very nice, there are nice scarves and bags and everything is at good prices too. Also there is a good Italian tarot and palm reader . She is brunette and very friendly. I never had a tarot reading before, so I was very curious to try. I was surprised for the many things she guessed !! My friends and I got a very accurate tarot reading with her. Her stall is close to the arcade from Argyle street entrance. read more

This market is a small outdoor one with a variety of stalls. There are traders selling jewellery, scaves, fascinators, sweets, chocolate and novelties. The market is easy to get around and well laid out, and is held every week on a Sunday. The goods tend to be fairly overpriced for a market, more of a boutique pricing if anything, although they are good quality goods. It is easy to get to from Argyle street or from Buchanan Street. read more
