An interesting assortment of antiques, curios and second-hand furniture is to be found in this cavernous place. It's rather disappointing that there's little consistency to be found among the units. Browsing on a Tuesday afternoon, I saw little evidence of unit owners presences, the furniture in some of the units was somewhat haphazardly stacked & in some cases obscuring a good amount of goods. There were several 'no photography' signs around the place, which put me off, it seemed a bit stuffy & reminded me of cranky owners who don't like people browsing without buying.. In my opinion, with the amount of furniture on display, being allowed to take a photo or two to re-examine later, is more likely to lead to sales than not.. It might be that there are a few items on display which are from a time that was a bit less PC than now..
There's a lot've stuff in here, but without owners to talk to or the ability to take a picture for researching later, I really felt like I was looking at the same pieces over & over. As I'm no antique/ furniture expert it was pretty near impossible to tell why the price varied from one piece to another.
There was a lot've reproduced asian furniture, mahogany furniture, vintage or reclaimed furniture as well as a whole retro unit (south side retro). In general though a lot of the furniture felt like it belonged in some dark, stuffy, old flat in Kelvinside.
I think I will go back on a weekend in the hope that sellers will be there, as there were one or two pieces that I'm interested in. read more
