Antique Cave's clues are in the title - it's the only shop I've ever been into where I've been able…read moreto touch the basement ceiling! Very exciting. If you're six foot tall, expect to slouch. But that's all part of the fun, oui? This shop is mainly for big furniture rather than bric a brac, although there are still some vases and old books dotted around the bookshelves. Today I saw one about Hitler (entitled, would you believe, 'Hitler')...looked like an interesting old histoical but even the cover looked bleak and aggressive so it may be to someone else's tastes! They also had some more favourable drawing room reading of the Jane Austen ilk....love the covers on these old books. They're so elegant. Like I said though, it's mainly chairs, which you get your fill of if you go cave exploring downstairs. There's something to suit many tastes down here, from sofas to wicker chairs, and the prices are fairly reasonable considering the good condition of the stock. Upstairs you can usually find some lovely mirrors with gilded frames and the odd painting or print in the room at the back. But the best stock resides outside on sunnier days so if you spy something that tickles your fancy, you'll need to be quick to snaffle up the stuff showcased here. The owners are quite helpful if you're looking for anything in particular.

Joking aside...yes that was intended to be a joke.....this is a real treasure trove of the old and furniture type variety... Labyrinth like in its interior you really could loose a couple of days in here in search of a wee side table, coat rack, umbrella stand or whatever else it is that you hunt for in these places. Priced just a wee bit on the "well i never"side, this is definitely worth a nod if your on the hunt for old and slightly quirky furniture.

First, it's down a wee cobbled lane that just manages to catch your eye. There are some tables outside in a little courtyard, and then all the way to the right when you step inside there are several tables and chairs of the mismatched-but-going-together variety. They have food options ranging from the full scottish brekkie to paninis to cakes. The cakes looked so good--obviously homemade and rich and generously frosted. Everything is made to order and damn if the coffee and food weren't excellent. Then, after eating, you can go explore this enormous market with genuinely cool stuff! There was this giant dining table and chairs set that looked like it had come straight off the Game of Thrones set (which I now regret not having taken a picture of). There was a room screen with whimsical Asian art, and a lamp with penguins. It was all in excellent condition and ranging from whimsical/fanciful to sturdy/practical. This is a great option for gorgeous used furniture and/or brunch. It's BYOB, if that's what you're into.

Really great place with lots of sellers. I found quite a few treasures there. Nice owners as well.read more

A huge part of me loves the mystery of something pre-loved. - And the SAAC definitely got this part of me giddy. Seriously. This is legitimately a vintage clothing, music, jewellery, glass, furniture, EVERYTHING shop. The place is HUGE. And they have a cafe and gift shop. You could really lose track of time, and even then, you'd feel like there was more to see. I didn't want to miss anything, and I've already planned my next visit, alongside a list of folks who I know will love it as much as I do. Price-wise, yes, antiques can be expensive business but if you're planning to buy a gift for someone special, then you could most definitely stay within budget. The jewellery section was absolutely stunning with an amazing amount of choice and a variety of prices too. Equally so, if you're looking for something really really special and prepared to spend that bit more, you won't be stuck for choice here. - There are just so many beautiful things I felt free to wander and, whilst staff walked around the centre and CCTV was in operation, it wasn't intrusive and it didn't make me feel uncomfortable. You could visit just for the sake of visiting and make a real day of it, and even go to the cafe afterwards. - Something I've a feeling I'll want to do again and again and again.

They do furniture, books, paintings, jewellery, clothes, old toys, coins, postcards - heck, just about anything! And when you're done there's a wee coffee shop there too. Brilliant for a rainy day or for hunting down that prize chesterfield furniture.

If you're looking for a bargain in a charity shop where the staff have no idea as to the value of…read morethe items you're selling, this is not the shop for you. If, however, you're looking for great quality antiques and knick knacks at a fair price, accompanied by friendly service from knowledgeable staff, this is definitely the place to go. Situated at the far end of the High Street, near the ferry port, the Cowal Hospice Trust Charity Shop is a veritable treasure trove. From jewellery to clothes, furniture to ornaments, soft toys to board games, this shop has everything and while the prices can hardly be described as "rock bottom" they are invariably reasonable. I've bought a number of pieces of furniture from the shop, including a wingback chair that would have been at least £60 in Glasgow, but there was fairly priced at £25. I've bought jewellery for my wife, paintings, and a range of unusual items you're unlikely to find at any High Street store. It's like a fantastic flea market under one roof. Well, actually it's two roofs. The shop is divided in two with one side selling furniture and more expensive antiques, the other selling clothes, DVDs, jewellery and household items. It's a cash only business, but if you walk in there with just a tenner in your pocket you can leave with a bag filled with goodies and be sure that your money has been well spent. I'd just like to add a quick note about Morag, who I believe manages the shop. Even when she's having a bad day she's there ready to offer a friendly greeting and a smile, ensuring customers have a pleasurable shopping experience regardless of how much they buy. She's also a fairly unique entity in charity shops. She doesn't pretend to know exactly the right price for everything (though her instincts are very good), and if you feel something is overpriced she can always be convinced to revisit that price - not that you'd really have much cause to haggle in this brilliant shop.
