Being a long time client of Paula's, I had the pleasure of my first appointment at her new location…read morein Saugus. She has been cutting, styling and coloring my hair for over 20 years and I've yet to ever be disappointed. She knows exactly what cuts and colors will look good on me, and her suggestions are always the most flattering. When she first starting doing my hair, I was only 13 years old, and it was very convenient that she was located in the same town I lived in. As I got older I moved about 30 minutes away and refused to look for a closer hair stylist. The travel for me was worth it. And her new location, though farther away for me has not deterred my insistence that she be the only one who touches my hair. It is very conveniently located only a few minutes away from her old locale. She has done everything from perms (when they were stylish) to adding gorgeous blonde streaks to my otherwise dark hair to cutting off over 10 inches into a fantastic bob. Every time I leave there, I feel fantastic. She styled my hair for my wedding and I'm still receiving compliments on gorgeous my hair looked on that day. Paula never rushes through a cut or style to get to her next client. She will step back and analyze her work so far and see if there's something she can do to make it even better. As for my appointment yesterday, it was my first trim in about 6 months, just a wash, cut and blow-dry. Nothing fancy, but when I left, I felt amazing. On my way home, I had to do some errands. Well, I received two compliments from an employee and customer at Whole Foods. As well as a "Wow, your hair is so beautiful!" from a random stranger in Target. Being a mom of two little ones, these kinds of compliments don't come often, and I knew it was a direct result of my trip to Paula. Yesterday, I took my son to this salon for a haircut. Prior to the appointment, I confirmed over…read morethe phone that he would qualify for junior pricing, given his age. However, once the haircut began, the owner, Kiran, abruptly stated that adult pricing would apply (guessing due to the length of his hair). If hair length impacts pricing, that should be clearly communicated upfront--not once the client is already in the chair. We brought a reference photo of a Korean men's haircut, and Kiran mentioned that she was familiar with the style. Trusting her confidence, we allowed her to proceed. Unfortunately, the result was nothing like the photo and, more importantly, not at all what we expected. As the cut progressed, I became concerned with how much hair was being taken off, but hoped the top layer of hair that was still remaining would redeem it. That was a huge mistake. The end result was by far the worst haircut my son has ever received. I had planned to get my hair cut as well, but after seeing my son's, I decided I would never want Kiran to touch my hair. For someone who is marketed as a master stylist, the outcome was incredibly disappointing and certainly not worth the $60 we paid (she was charging $65 but I was able to use the 20% first time customer coupon to reduce the price). Frankly, I wouldn't want this haircut on my son even if it were free. Confidence in your craft is one thing, but it should be paired with careful listening, clear communication, and a willingness to double-check before making irreversible decisions. Sadly, none of that happened here. We will definitely not be returning. If I could give zero stars for this salon, I would.
