It is a DT location, open until 10 pm daily, which means if you're in a car, or hoping to visit later on in the evening, it does have those benefits which the Starbucks at Marketplace in the town centre does not. The interior was pretty modern and comfortable, they had a nice amount of seating, I do think the tables and seating area could have been cleaner; the tables were not cleaned in the hour or so I was there, and were notably dirty before I had arrived, meaning I had to wipe the table down myself. I'd totally understand if they were short-staffed, but they had multiple baristas who seemed to be standing around and not doing anything, so surely they could have tidied up? Service was a little slow, again there seemed to be staff members not doing anything when they easily could have been helping the queue move quicker or move drinks, the baristas did seem friendly enough, however. My Venti Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte came to £4.80, just under 5% extra compared to a standard corporate-owned store, they do accept Starbucks Rewards here so if you have a free drink you get more bang for your buck compared to most other stores. My drink was fine, they did put in slightly too much of the pumpkin syrup, but it wasn't too noticeable, and it was much better than having too little syrup which other stores sometimes seem to do. 3* - A-OK, not a bad Starbucks store, although cleanliness/pricing remain unsatisfactory.

The staff are awesome here and really helpful if you want to try something new. I find this quite a cosy starbucks - some of them these days can be a bit clinical. It's hidden down a quiet driveway off a side street, giving it a lovely secret feeling. Service was friendly and prompt, and the food and drink was pleasant, but nothing to write home about. I was a little disappointed that the brown toast I ordered was 2 slices of very cheap brown bread, and not the rustic chunky seeded bread my partner received with his Ploughmans, (which was nice quality, but again quite basic. Very nicely presented though). The tea choices were nice, and although not loose leaf, the apple and cinnamon black tea was very enjoyable. Although we didn't get chance this time, the cakes and other treats on the menu looked lovely, and it'd be nice to visit again to try them. It was also nice that despite us finishing right near their closing time, they didn't make us feel rushed to leave.

My son accidentally broke a money box, which was at a three year old's height. No signs were up to say that items needed paying for if accidentally broken. I spoke to the owner saying that he had broken something and that it was close to the edge when it fell off. I was very apologetic about the matter and honest. However the owner ( a man) was aggressive and said that I needed to pay the full retail cost for the item before leaving. As he was so intimating and overpowering saying that I couldn't leave without paying the full retail price and wouldn't accept the cost price (which is against consumer law). I was so scared and upset by this, and had to pay nearly £40 for an afternoon tea for one adult and two children. A really wouldn't buy or go to this cafe again.

It is just a shame everything wasn't top notch. Muffin Break is on the ground floor of the Grand Arcade shopping centre in Wigan, right next to the lift. The cafe is quite a strange shape, with some seats in the brighter part next to the till and others being down in the store, where the decor is much different and slightly darker. They was newspapers to read. I ordered a Cinnamon Latte and they also had Gluten Free Strawberry and Banana muffins, I ordered a Strawberry one, the muffin tasted quite nice for gluten free, although not the best muffin I had it wasn't the worst either and was terrific value considering the price of gluten free cakes out and about and was £2. My Cinnamon latte was satisfactory, although it was nothing special and no where near as good as the one I later got from Starbucks, which is a short walk away from this store. My table was dirty when I got sat down, I was annoyed to see this as it had little crumbds of gluten, which would of made me very ill if it would of come into contact with my food and coffee, so I had to ask a member of staff to clean it, she had no problem doing it, but they should be a server always cleaning tables when they become vacant. The tables were not very big, the tables are mainly to seat 2 people but honestly they would barely be enough room for 1 person to have coffee and cake. As I enjoyed my Strawberry muffin, I made a risk and decided to get a banana one on my way home, the risk was they could sell out as I would be visiting near closing time and I was dissapointed to find they had all sold out, the staff didn't seem too appolegetic about this and the barista actually semmed like she was going to laugh. Even though they have nice gluten free cake here, I feel 2 stars is right for this place, the low rating is mainly for the following reasons - Strange lighting - Tables not being cleaned when they become vacant - Coffee not being as good as it could be - Staff not showing kindness or sorrow when my products was out, (normally even at Starbucks they show sympathy) - Table size.

But music is a little too loud for the morning, with Starbucks you get the choice of extras like special coffee or syrups ( normal or sugar free ) and whipped cream. Once you have your drink you can add extras such as cold milk , cinnamon, sugar but also vanilla as well . Just don't let small children near the cinnamon as it will not be a good outcome.

This Starbucks store in Wigan is a nice branch in a good, central, city centre location…read more My visit here didn't get off to a good start, as they don't stock the places mugs I like, they refused to give me a discount on their Gingerbread flavouring syrup which remains from Christmas and they had run out of the Colombia espresso. The barista resisted my negotiations of a discount. I ordered a Cinnamon Latte with cream and I did enjoy my drink, I would of prefered it to be a touch warmer, but it wasn't so cold to warrant sending it back. The other people in my party got a Triple Hot Chocolate with it being BOGOF with a special offer when you say their hidden phrase "We love Chocolate" They is charging sockets in the store but they isn't many, they is so little that I got a girl wanting to charge her phone at my table, I didn't mind but it would be nice to see a few more spread around the store. This is a large store, with normally a large queue and the numerous seats being close to full. I didn't notice any gluten free cakes or sandwiches yet again in a Starbucks store, it makes me doubt they still do a gluten free wrap and brownie. The barista who served me, appeared to be more serious than friendly and a laugh. This store has free wifi, but as I was sat very far away from the entrance, I could not even pick it up, which adds to a disappointing wifi signal of which is really intermittent in central Wigan. I feel this store deserves 3 stars as the drink I had was nice but the staff could be friendlier and I feel they should have more stock of the new Colombia espresso and perhaps slightly more seating as it seemed really busy on my visit, maybe something to help them cope with the high demand and large queues could help improve the store, however I feel three stars is a fair rating for this store as, despite the noticeable flaws, it is a nice store. UPDATE: Due to a recent experience with this store where I've noticed a downgrade with most parts of the store, from experience at the till (I was overcharged due to my gold level discount not knocking off), service (staff members told me there was nothing to do about my overcharging), overall feel (the store was already beginning to pack away with over an hour until closing), order experience (you can't order on your phone with the app at this branch) and beverage quality (drink was of a poorer standard than what I'm used to), I sadly feel this branch of Starbucks now lets the company down, I'm sorry to report and deserves a downgrade to a single one-star rating.

I asked the man if I could use my loyalty card, and indeed he let me and I did, I had 95p on my loyalty card and I wanted to use that on my transaction but he told me, it had to cover the whole item which I know from past experience and the Costa website isn't true. It is hard to review a place where you only went in for pre-packaged food which wasn't made on site, a flying visit like this one but it looked like a nice store as you come in from the Crompton Street car park. It certainly isn't the best cofee shop in this shopping centre and on the streets just outside, I much prefer Starbucks and Caffe Nero to Costa and would rather visit smaller businesses like Muffin Break, rather than the UK giant as they have better cofee, a wide array of gluten free muffins and they are a smaller giant, with under 50 stores, I am sure Costa has this many in Greater Manchester. I feel it is unfair to give this store 1 star, but I don't want to give it higher than 2 because of the following reasons - They is much better a short walk away from here in the Arndale, or on the surroinding streets - Barista could of appeared to be more friendlier - He could of gave me the 95p off that really should of been used on my loyalty card - No Gluten free sandwiches avaliable which really upsets me as Costa and Starbucks used to have a GF wrap until the Christmas period, where they changed for a festive one and since then, not one store has reverted back to an old or different non-christmas wrap based on my numerous visits, if you read my reviews you know how often I go Starbucks so I am surprised to see this is also happening with Costa.
