Starbucks - Starbucks, Wigan

Starbucks

Seems to be a very very quiet Starbucks this morning, maybe the pound bakery across the way is too…read moremuch competition!! Nice vibe for a cafe in Wigan! But music is a little too loud for the morning, with Starbucks you get the choice of extras like special coffee or syrups ( normal or sugar free ) and whipped cream. Once you have your drink you can add extras such as cold milk , cinnamon, sugar but also vanilla as well . Just don't let small children near the cinnamon as it will not be a good outcome.

This Starbucks store in Wigan is a nice branch in a good, central, city centre location…read more My visit here didn't get off to a good start, as they don't stock the places mugs I like, they refused to give me a discount on their Gingerbread flavouring syrup which remains from Christmas and they had run out of the Colombia espresso. The barista resisted my negotiations of a discount. I ordered a Cinnamon Latte with cream and I did enjoy my drink, I would of prefered it to be a touch warmer, but it wasn't so cold to warrant sending it back. The other people in my party got a Triple Hot Chocolate with it being BOGOF with a special offer when you say their hidden phrase "We love Chocolate" They is charging sockets in the store but they isn't many, they is so little that I got a girl wanting to charge her phone at my table, I didn't mind but it would be nice to see a few more spread around the store. This is a large store, with normally a large queue and the numerous seats being close to full. I didn't notice any gluten free cakes or sandwiches yet again in a Starbucks store, it makes me doubt they still do a gluten free wrap and brownie. The barista who served me, appeared to be more serious than friendly and a laugh. This store has free wifi, but as I was sat very far away from the entrance, I could not even pick it up, which adds to a disappointing wifi signal of which is really intermittent in central Wigan. I feel this store deserves 3 stars as the drink I had was nice but the staff could be friendlier and I feel they should have more stock of the new Colombia espresso and perhaps slightly more seating as it seemed really busy on my visit, maybe something to help them cope with the high demand and large queues could help improve the store, however I feel three stars is a fair rating for this store as, despite the noticeable flaws, it is a nice store. UPDATE: Due to a recent experience with this store where I've noticed a downgrade with most parts of the store, from experience at the till (I was overcharged due to my gold level discount not knocking off), service (staff members told me there was nothing to do about my overcharging), overall feel (the store was already beginning to pack away with over an hour until closing), order experience (you can't order on your phone with the app at this branch) and beverage quality (drink was of a poorer standard than what I'm used to), I sadly feel this branch of Starbucks now lets the company down, I'm sorry to report and deserves a downgrade to a single one-star rating.

Costa Coffee - The store

Costa Coffee

I called in Costa Coffee today to grab a gluten free cake for my journey home from Wigan…read more I picked up 2 GF Cherry Bakewells for £1.55, Costa is normally good for Gluten free and also sells a brownie. I asked the man if I could use my loyalty card, and indeed he let me and I did, I had 95p on my loyalty card and I wanted to use that on my transaction but he told me, it had to cover the whole item which I know from past experience and the Costa website isn't true. It is hard to review a place where you only went in for pre-packaged food which wasn't made on site, a flying visit like this one but it looked like a nice store as you come in from the Crompton Street car park. It certainly isn't the best cofee shop in this shopping centre and on the streets just outside, I much prefer Starbucks and Caffe Nero to Costa and would rather visit smaller businesses like Muffin Break, rather than the UK giant as they have better cofee, a wide array of gluten free muffins and they are a smaller giant, with under 50 stores, I am sure Costa has this many in Greater Manchester. I feel it is unfair to give this store 1 star, but I don't want to give it higher than 2 because of the following reasons - They is much better a short walk away from here in the Arndale, or on the surroinding streets - Barista could of appeared to be more friendlier - He could of gave me the 95p off that really should of been used on my loyalty card - No Gluten free sandwiches avaliable which really upsets me as Costa and Starbucks used to have a GF wrap until the Christmas period, where they changed for a festive one and since then, not one store has reverted back to an old or different non-christmas wrap based on my numerous visits, if you read my reviews you know how often I go Starbucks so I am surprised to see this is also happening with Costa.

Great skinny flat white and costas brown toast is amazing! Great way to start my day . Lovely…read morerelaxed atmosphere and right near the loo's .
