My Mum and I were hungry so just went for it. We were in the Braehead one (used to be Xscape), its a good size and wasnt too busy. We got three courses for £11, served a lovely waiter with (what I hope was) a cheesy fake Italian accent. I got mushrooms to start, creamy chicken pasta for main and finished with waffles. Everything was delicious!!! I was stuffed and chuffed ;). My Mum also enjoyed her meal, she had garlic bread, fish and chips and ice cream. I'm not a big drinker and Mum was driving to I had diet coke (with unlimited refills) and Mum had tea. The best part was the music they played! Elvis, Dusty Springfield, The Beatles and lots of others that I love. The bathrooms were nice too :). So my views of Frankie and Benny's have definitely changed and I will no doubt return.

We tried the branch in Princes Square first, but with over an hour to wait with a hungry kid we opted to visit this branch just off George Square. We had to wait about 15 mins on this busy Saturday night, and we have a sneaking suspicion the kind, but slightly too enthusiastic waitress might have given us a table quicker due to the tired child and the harassed look the adults were sporting. My friend opted for to go for the £6.50 piccolo menu for her daughter which consisted of a starter of dough balls, followed by a choice of pizza or pasta dish, a choice of dessert either ice cream or chocolate cake/brownie and a Bambinoccino (basically a frothy milk with chocolate). This proved great value and was devoured without much complaint. We both opted for the Leggera Pizzas - lighter pizzas with a salad in the middle. I went for the Goats Cheese which was sweet with lovely caramelised onions and spinach, whilst my friend opted for a chicken version. These were really tasty despite being lower in calories than a lot of pizzas and I think theres a real potential for restaurants to make some dishes slightly healthier, or more moderate portions catering for more health conscious eaters. To finish my friend went for a black coffee and I tagged on a mini dolcetti chocolate gluten free brownie which was rich and ganache like and just enough to end the meal. Prices are as you would expect, about £10 for a pizza, £5 for dessert - not the cheapest by any means but the food was fairly good quality. Our waitress was lovely and very friendly although we did find the service particularly slow, but I think on this particular night the restaurant was particularly busy. However, I would say though that I much prefer the Princes Square branch. There's seating both up and downstairs but we did find some of the facilities toilets etc a little run down, and from a quick look downstairs we both thought it looked a little dark and unatmospheric. Definitely somewhere I'll keep coming for pizza, but its by no means fine dining and I'd probably opt to visit the brighter Princes Square branch.

As it was relatively quiet when we went in, we were taken to our table by the host and drinks were ordered efficiently! The starters were brought out within 10 minutes, and I like the fact in Frankie and Benny's you can see your food being made and when it's ready, so you know if your food's sitting for longer than it needs to be. Despite cleaning the plate of the magnificently season bruchetta I was given, I think I probably ate half of the dough sticks as well. Oh my heavenly lord, the garlic butter was like the melted body of God himself. After I had calmed down from the taste explosion that garlic butter was, we had our table cleared and prepped for our main courses. We did wait a good 25 minutes for the mains which was a pest, as the starters had made us hungry for more. Colin ordered the simple, yet always incredibly appealing on any menu Spaghetti Bolognese, and our friend had the Cajun Chicken Melt Wrap with chips. I opted for the New Yorker Calzone, a gorgeous calzone filled with spicy pepperoni, ham, bacon and mozzarella, and topped with a homemade Neapolitan tomato and herb sauce. To. Die. For. I've never actually tried a calzone before, but I would definitely have this one again and again, that's how good it was. The waiter came shortly after finishing and collected my wiped-clean plate, and Colin and I decided we'd have some sorbet to finish off the meal. I went for the lemon, one of the only desserts I'll eat (not a big dessert person!), and Colin chose the strawberry. I kid you not, this was the most superb lemon sorbet I have ever tasted, and believe me I have tried a lot! You may be in a carb coma afterwards but you will certainly not be hungry! The pizza is thin and crispy and as it is cooked in stone pizza oven. The wood fire oven takes centre stage in the middle of the restaurant with much of the seating on a raised deck. The menus focuses on pizzas however there is meat and fish as well as pasta dishes to boot . There are also a selection of salads ,and I must say ,I have enjoyed the superfood salad a few times. Today we took advantage of a voucher and I had the salmon as a mains , which was tasty and not over facing . My companions had the pizza rusticas which were beautifully presented and flavoursome . Sadly we were too full for deserts and finished our meal with coffees . Service was good and I definitely would pop back for a unplanned meal . On this occasion it was my friends birthday, so our table for ten was all set out and ready to go. A few of us have O2 Priority which gives you free Proseco and olives, so never ones to turn down a freebie, we asked for these to start with whilst we browsed the menu. These seemed to take forever to arrive, although by the time they did we were ready to order. The menu has a fair selection of your usual Italian fare - pizzas, pastas, salad and a few more interesting options including hanging skewers which my friends opted to try. I went for the skinny pizza primavera ( a lighter option of wholemeal pizza base with vegetables and a scattering of goats cheese topping - served with a naked slaw salad). For being a lighter meal this was a good size and it wasn't very cheesy which was good. Others choose some pizzas, risotto and lasagne and all seemed tasty enough although nothing outstanding. The restaurant was fairly busy on the Saturday night we visited and it wasn't the quickest service, but we were enjoying the catch up and chatting so it didn't matter too much. No one had starters yet everyone decided they didn't want a dessert, but in fact wanted a taste of dessert. Que ordering two desserts with lots of spoons as we sampled the chocolate salted pecan torte and the raspberry rosa. The chocolate torte was very, well chocolately and nice enough, although the taste I had was enough, and if you were to eat a whole thing it would be pretty heavy. The raspberry rosa was the seasonal special and included fruit, sorbet and gelato although none of the mini meringues (apparently they had ran out), which we were drawn to in the first instance. This was nice and refreshing, although again wasn't particularly memorable. Prices were okay and whilst Zizzi wouldn't be my first choice, the meal was enjoyable enough and the restaurant made for a good night out.
