It is a bit pricey if you don't order on the lunch menu, but nonetheless, worth it. The restaurant has a vey comfortable ambiance. It feels very classy, yet has a rustic charm. This is definitely a nice restaurant and bar, with prime location along the harbour. It's worth a visit if your in Ayr!

So, we realized, for such a small town, to have this many people standing in line, it must be good, so we had to stop. The fish was fresh, the batter - light, flavorful, not greasy - was fantastic, and local potatoes for the chips, it really was great. Since that time, I've moved to the PNW coast in the US, where we have another great "local" F&C shop.

I used to go there when I went to Turnberry for my annual golf pilgrimage to Scotland. It's about a 10 minute drive from the Turnberry hotel along the west coast of Scotland with a great view of Ailsa Craig. The F and C consists of a generous mild and moist filet with a crunchy breading and thick wedge cut fries wrapped in newspaper for take out, for about £5. The newspaper soaks up some grease and absorbs steam which keeps the food from getting soggy during the drive back to my room. This is a review for the takeaway, not the restaurant bit, a woeful place if ever I saw one. Typical fish and chip shop at first glance, till you experience the staff. Two belligerent, eye-rolling, ignorant teenage girls.* Not only were they taking everyone's orders incorrectly but they were so rude about it. When one customer asked why the server had a massive 'tude, she wiped her nose and said it was because she was sick. Uhh, excuse me, can someone get the health inspector on line 1? So she was coughing, wiping her nose, taking cash payments and then wrapping the fish and chips with her bare hands. Touching ALL the food. I nearly died myself. But it wasn't only the overwhelming sanitary issues, but the sheer disorganisation of the place. They served everyone who came in after us before us. We waited so long that my order was just sitting under the heat lamp for 20 minutes waiting for the rest of the food to be cooked.
