I have long, thick curly hair and paid 80 USD (excluding tip) for a haircut and 70 USD (also excluding tip) for a blowout. The hairstylist, Nesa, was super friendly and gave me the haircut and the blowout at different times, two weeks apart. I did not go in with a reference picture and just asked her to do whatever she thought would look best. I was not disappointed. I was a little bit confused about the price of the blowout v haircut. It struck me as strange that there was only a ten dollar difference between the two, given that when I had the haircut, the blowout was included in the 80 USD I paid. I have never had a blowout as a separate service (in any salon) before, so I don't know if this is typical. This is a very unassuming salon in a university neighbourhood, with a ten dollar discount for students (unsure if this is just for UChicago students: call and check). The ambience is clean but unexceptional. Overall, I recommend this place. Of the other hair salons I have been to in HP, I have liked this one the best.

I work walking distance from this place but did not know it existed. I had gone to the nail shop across the street and there was an hour wait but since my lunch is only an hour I needed to find somewhere else. I loved the fact that I was the only client being serviced, it's less triggering for my social anxiety. The prices were great and I thought the young lady did a great job. Plus it's black owned so I felt good about keeping my coins in the community. I will be making another appointment soon

Jasmin does a fantastic job, and knows just how to shape my eyebrows in a manner than most flatters my facial features. I always leave the salon satisfied with the quality of service. I have also received two pedicures there and have liked them, especially for the price and the time and effort the pedicurists put into their work. You do not need to call ahead if you want your brows threaded, but I recommend that you call ahead if you want a pedicure. The ambience is simple and almost hole in the wall--it's not the kind of place where you want to linger for too long. I've never experienced issues with cleanliness. One caveat: the thread used during the threading process tends to be on the thicker side. This sometimes causes small cuts that heal in a day or so. I use tretinoin (though I do not use it the day before and the day of threading) and have thick brows, which could perhaps be contributing to the cuts. Overall, I highly recommend the threading services at Jasmin's, especially when they are offered by Jasmin herself!

I think that's where things went wrong and it appears that my request got completely lost in translation. As it became clear that Mike wasn't familiar with what I was asking for, I tried explaining exactly what needed to be done. Instead of listening, he cut me off and insisted that what I was requesting was incorrect. Clearly, it wasn't, because later that same evening THREE of my nails broke completely off. And no, these were not press-on nails. I called the next morning since the salon was already closed when the nails broke. I spoke with a very pleasant young lady named Jenny who apologized and explained that Mike had been feeling ill and that I was his last customer before he left. Unfortunately, that explanation matched the quality of the work--it felt rushed and careless. She invited me back to have the nails repaired. When I returned on Tuesday, Kim started working on my nails, but then Nancy took over. Keep in mind, this was only a three-nail repair. During the service, Nancy repeatedly stopped to take phone calls. Then, when two other customers came in who appeared to be regulars, she left me sitting there to assist them instead. Nothing says "your time doesn't matter" quite like being abandoned mid-service while someone else is helped. The lack of professionalism, attention to detail, and customer service was disappointing from start to finish. If you have another option, take it.

My dermatologist wanted to know why I never showed it to her in all these years. Not one ever mentioned it, until Michelle. The space is small, within Sola Salon. It is well appointed. It was as if I somehow knew better than her because she for some reason put a normal top coat and didn't set the nails. They chipped the SAME DAY. He was very attentive, professional, and took such great care of me throughout my massage. I truly appreciated the care he provided. Unfortunately, my experience was overshadowed by an issue with my booking. I had a gift certificate specifically for a Hot Stone Massage, but when I arrived, my appointment had been entered as a Body Butter Massage. I brought the issue to the staff's attention, and my massage therapist also spoke with them about the situation. I understand that mistakes can happen, and I was told that the receptionist was responsible for entering the massage incorrectly. However, I was disappointed that after explaining the situation, no accommodation was offered--such as a discount toward a future visit or a complimentary massage. I want to emphasize that my massage therapist was wonderful and provided excellent service. My concern is with how the booking error was handled afterward. When a mistake is made by the establishment, I believe it is important to make the customer feel valued and to find a reasonable way to make the situation right. Betty O Day Spa is a beautiful establishment, and based on the quality of my massage therapist, I would consider returning. I just hope that in the future, greater care is taken when entering appointments and that customers are given better consideration when an error occurs.
