I am very disappointed with the service and quality. I have never had such a horrendous experience as this one. I got a basic mani & pedi with Cami ($65). They claim to be "high-end" but they definitely lack it. The place is very dirty and they have a very old nail polish selection. I've been going to A Polish on and off for the past year. I'm not a man that consistently gets a manicure but when I do I like going to someone I support and trust. At A Polish Rae Smith was that person for me. I LOVE supporting black businesses. Unfortunately on this day it left a nasty taste in my mouth. I had an appointment two days prior and something came up at work and I had to reschedule. I called an hour and a half before my time. They told me on the phone my new appointment would be two days later at 4:30pm. I arrived at 4:00pm and just waited outside on the phone until my appointment. To my surprise when I entered early looking forward to see my nail tech I was pulled to the back and almost chastised by my nail tech and the owner chastised me about me being late and rescheduling. They discontinued my membership and made me feel unwanted and undervalued as a faithful customer. When I use the word faithful, it's in terms as since I started going to them a year ago, only one other shop I went to and that's because I was out of town. I had to show the both of them receipts and text messages saying my appointment was at 4:30pm not 4:15pm. The time that I walked in there and remember I was outside at 4:00pm regardless. They did offer me the opportunity of using my appointment but by then I already felt patronized by both of the two women. As a black community we need to do better, I'm extremely disappointed. Plus the disregard of the mistake they made on their behalf and the unwillingness to repair the harm that was caused by them baffles me. read more

I really enjoy a good Mani & Pedi! And on my quest to find or try various salons, I tried a polish works. I entered the Salon and I was greeted with cheerful "hello's" the atmosphere was cozy, warm & inviting. It was definitely an experience. I've been back at least 2 more times and the energy have been consistent cozy & inviting. The staff is knowledgeable and welcoming and they care about you nails & comfort. Always looking for black owned business in my neighborhood. This one stumbled up as I was looking for a pedicure. They are conveniently located next to grab crossing park. I walked up to the door and I had to he buzzed in. I was greeted by the owner who was refreshing be open. Being a guy is awkward sometimes asking for a pedicure in a room full.of woman but I stuck it out. Service was good. My pedicure took about 30 min; of which the owner (she did my feet ) and I had a good Convo which made the time go fast. Crazily they are debit card only, which confused me. They don't accept cash at all which is understandable considering the neighborhood and it only being woman working. I'll be back to keep getting my pedicures! read more

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME THEY'LL STEAL FROM YOU. THIS PLACE STOLE FROM ME!! CHARGED A $35 fee for an appointment that I didn't book. I specifically found this place to get my manicure services because it was a black owned business. NEVER AGAIN! I called a polish work to make an appointment. I was informed that I needed to make an appointment online in order to book a service. The lady on the phone walked me through the booking process and informed me that there were no appointments available until the Monday coming up. Today is Wednesday. Okay so I went through the online process and proceeded to book 2 appointments on Monday for a paraffin pedicure and a no chip manicure. The person on the phone said they would book my nail art for me. And I said okay. 2 APPOINTMENTS MADE FOR MONDAY AND ZERO CONFIRMATION EMAILS. At this point the representative is still on the phone with me and helping me through the process. At any point in time during the booking process did it show any other day except for Monday available for appointments. I go on with my day and get a random $35 charge from A Polished Work. I immediately call to figure out why I was charged when my appointment is on Monday NOT WEDNESDAY. I spoke with a girl who told me that I missed my 3pm appointment and couldn't get a refund. How did I miss an appointment I didn't create?? Mind you the girl who is talking to me was the alleged tech who collected the cancellation fee. She told me point blank that "WELL THATS NOT MY PROBLEM" ‍ and we got no where. She claims that the system told her I entered the appointment. I asked for the owners information and informed them that I would be visiting for a refund. And mentioned how unprofessional they were being during the course of the situation. As a business I expect the people that work there to be able to resolve issues and conflicts especially when the error was not my fault. The girl who I spoke with happened to be the technician who i supposed to have cancelled on. The owner called me 20 minutes later and I informed her of the situation. She proceeded to tell me that they have a cancellation policy to protect their time. I understand. Which I understood when I booked my original appointments. And I completely understand that your time matters. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE APPOINTMENT THE REPRESENTATIVE MADE FOR ME?? When there is an error there should be some way to resolve the issue. The owner went back and forth with me and kept telling me there's NOTHING they can do. IF I HAD GOTTEN SOME KIND OF CONFIRMATION I COULD HAVE CANCELLED THE ALLEGED APPOINTMENT MADE FOR TGE INCORRECT DAY. Went to this place once in 2018 to get a simple pedicure, and every time I moved the price went up and I somehow ended up paying $40 no designs or anything so I never went back fast forward to Nov 19th of this year I had an event the next day and needed my nails done last minute because I work a lot walked in to ask first if they did walk ins since it was already about 6 pm and she said yes only to set me an appointment for 7:15......uhhhh that's not a walk in that's called an appointment don't lie just to get my money but whatever and the girl who set the appointment wasn't doing anything at the time and set the appointment with HERSELF at this point I should have known where this was going. So I leave and come back at 7:10 and sit patiently waiting for her to finish someone else, finally at 7:30 (15 min late) she's finally ready for me. I'm sure there would have been an issue if I was late returning. I was getting a basic no chip w/ no designs, not to mention they didn't have a big variety of colors anyhow. She does the no chip and keeps on and off wiping something off of one of the nails but the lighting in there wasn't the best so I couldn't tell if it was an issue. Noticed once I got home that that nail in particular was duller in color than the others guess she wiped off the shine. At check out she asked did I want to tip.......needless to say no tip was left and i don't care how desperate I am I'll go buy a pack of Color Street stick on polish before I return to this shop for anything. I do wish these shops would stop lying about taking walk ins. I have 2 businesses and don't have time to make an appointment 2 weeks in advance that you may be late for anyhow. This shop has a calm and relaxing environment (very spa like) and the staff is always friendly. They are extremely sanitary in this shop with the tools and the foot tubs which gives me peace of mind! There is no strong chemical smell when you walk into the shop. Very large selection of polishes (no chip and regular). A also really love their point system! I typically go to a place in the Gold Coast or Tinley Park but me & my boyfriend were flying out for a wedding that evening so I had to find a place close to his house. Making the Appointment: I called early in the day and they were able to work me in. I would NOT recommend making an appointment same day because she already had some appointments at the time I desired but I was flexible so it worked out. If you have a specific time window I totally recommend calling a few days in advance. Location/Parking: The location is easy to get to with a lot of street parking. It's a Vibe: The second I walked in I felt comfortable and relaxed. This spot is sooo cute and seems like a place I can bring my girlfriends and sip wine and chill out at. It seemed they had a few repeat customers because everyone was having good conversations. The Service: I forget my nail techs name but she was very nice and gave me pointers on some blisters I had on the bottom of my feet. They use this sugar scrub that feels heavenly! And its also for sale! They had me in and out in no time but I didn't feel like she rushed through my pedi. Marketing: I work in digital marketing and I love to see small businesses really making the most of technology. They send text reminders and email receipts. I love to see them utilizing email re-engagement campaigns and following up with my experience. If I'm in the area again I'll totally go back! The (not so) Bad: The only "negative" (not their fault) I had is how long it took my nails to dry. I visited "A Polish work nail SPA" on February 18, 2021.I had a appointment with Mocha for 7pm that evening I arrived about 10 minutes early out of respect of the no late policy however I wasn't serviced until 7:18pm. That wasn't my major issue because I had already cleared my schedule for the evening in anticipation and excitement of receiving a $65 detailed pedicure. So mind you this detailed pedicure includes a callus foot treatment, collagen treatment, sugar scrub, and is advertised to be "the top of the line" pedicure. I did not receive "top of the line service" the nail technician worked on me and other clients simultaneously however I was done after about 35minutes. She did not rub my feet or extend the efforts of removing access skin. She basically washed my feet and called it a detailed pedicure. I have attached photos of my feet after receiving a $65 pedicure. I've never felt so "beat out" of my coins in a really long time. I do plan on reaching out to the owner or management to discuss my experience. So After reaching out to the owner regarding my dislike in the service I was offered the opportunity to receive a classic pedicure the following week. She was very professional with addressing my concerns. She actually serviced me herself. I would return to the establishment to explore other service because after having a unpleasant experience I was treated with respect and I was given the opportunity to be re serviced. read more

I scheduled an appt for 12 PST bc that is what the website says. I then got a confirmation text which stated the appt was actually 12 CST. I needed an appt for 10 am CST bc of a previously scheduled appt at 130 pm CST. I replied to the confirmation text and asked to reschedule to 10 am. I never rcvd a confirmation email OR text of the change. So I decided to go anyways ans see if I cld be accommodated earlier to which I was told flatly "no. You requested a reschedule and you're late. I have a mother client coming." My mother passed away 5 days ago and I am in a fog but not too much of a fog to know I will NEVER come here again. The last I spoke to was completely insensitive and insisted that confirmations are sent automatically. Even after I showed her I didn't get one. read more

Although I was excited to get my nails done by a high school student, especially because that means this business cares about building generational wealth, the quality of the acrylic overlay was pretty terrible. It was too thin at the nail bed and too thick at tips. Also, she couldn't do the level of design I'd made a reservation for. And when one of my nails came out sloppy, her response was 'oh that's the way you sat your hand", not to fix it. Lastly at $95 for a less than mediocre acrylic overlay with basic design and pedicure, it took almost 4 hours, about 45 minutes of that waiting after my appointment was to begin. Was looking on Yelp for a nail salon that was in my area (did not want to drive far) and that was different from the average Asian salons that are in my area . Came across "A Polished Work" and was instantly curious. The reviews were good and the pictures of the decor that was posted online was gorgeous. I was uncertain of the area where the salon was located because Chicago has some sketchy parts that you should stay away from but decided to give it a try. First, let me say, the area is fine. The salon is located on a very busy street with constant traffic and a beautiful, well-lit park across the street. There was plenty of street parking and the salon is right on the corner. Secondly, the moment I walked in I knew that this was not your "typical" nail salon. The decor was even better in person. It was warm, welcoming, and the type of environment you would want for a "me" day! Thirdly, the owner, Monica, who happen to be the lady that I made my appointment with, greeted me and told me she would be with me shortly. Once she got me soaking for my pedicure she offered me a glass of wine, tea, or water. I went for the wine of course :-) I was extremely pleased with my pedicure. Monica did a great job and it was honestly one of the best pedicures I have ever had. I did not feel like I was being rushed through the process like I always do at other salons. She really took the time to give me a quality pedicure and catered to my specific needs. She even gave me some tips on how to care for my feet between pedicures and she introduced me to pedi-socks, love them. This is now my new favorite nail salon in Chicago. I highly recommend it. Thank goodness for Yelp! I read the reviews here and decided to take my Granny here for her 100th Birthday! She's never had a manicure in her life so this was a treat. Dione was our nail technician and she did a fabulous job. We got the no chip gel polish in silver glitter. I'll attach the pics so you can see. I won't know how long the gels last yet since I'll be leaving my Granny today after 2 days of polish wear. The whole process wasn't long at all and you need to make an appointment. The place was very clean and the interior design was beautiful with accents of purple. I'll attached photos as well. I found the salon to be out of place in the neighborhood since it was residential with no neighboring stores. A DIAMOND in the rough! The Grand Crossing area is not some horrible nightmare; however, finding a gem such as this salon is a rarity, but a blessing. Selected this location on the whim when I realized my go to nail salon was not open on Mondays. Peeked around on Yelp and saw this was nearby and open...yes, on a Monday! The atmosphere was very inviting. Lovely interior design! You walk in and definitely know this is the place to be pampered! My nail technician, Monica, was phenomenal!!! From the moment she opened the door till the moment I left, she made me feel welcomed. You almost feel as if you're being welcomed into her home. Her experience is very evident and she shows that customer service is a top priority for her. Applauds all around!!! First I don't ordinarily post stuff, good or bad but actually got the idea to post here during recent visit to the salon where a friend of technician (Tomocha) jokingly said he was posting something negative about her services! Well, the good first: place is Black-owned, which is important to me, has a clean appearance, they offer you a beverage when you arrive, the owner (Monica) is the redeeming factor here with a much better personality & sense of budiness with better skills than the only other technician I've seen there and they accept walk-ins. Now the bad: over-priced for the generally poor customer service, have been there 3X, trying to support a neighborhood business and have yet to get a satisfying Mani-Pedi that I'd want to show off or NOT have to remove & re-do myself! Experienced Tomocha's non-professionalism & attitude, poor quality polish that bubbled (2X) or did not dry after 3 hrs! Last visit on a Thursday late afternoon, called BEFORE I walked in, looked for a place to put my wet umbrella and was rudely TOLD by Tomocha, "just put it anywhere, the sooner we get started the faster you can get out"...mind you, I was not the one in a hurry; however, I guess she was! I almost halted my services with her and wished I had because after I got home and closely checked her work...sooo very dissapointed!...do much more to add. $70 not well spent. I really wanted to love this place. The decor is nice and calming, the attention and friendliness when you come in is inviting. However, the no-chip manicure was HORRIBLE! I believe my manicurist is related to the owner and that may have something to do with the quality of the service but it was bad work. She did not clean up my cuticles well and I didn't correct her during the manicure because I was afraid that with her lack of skill she would nick/cut me. She proceeded to put the nail polish on but didn't put it on correctly, leaving gaps and pieces of dried nail polish hanging off the nail. She would even have me balance my hand in mid air while she put the nail polish, without any support or stabilization. I got home and realized how bad it was and called to speak to the owner; a gentleman listened but didn't offer for me to return to fix it. I then emailed them to attach the pictures so they would be able to see the bad work for themselves. However, I never received a response. It has been a month since. I wanted to like this place and wanted to return because I want to support local businesses but unfortunately they failed at service recovery.
