Literally the best gelato I've ever had in my life. The flavors are so fresh and palatable. The prices are also extremely worth it. I think it was like 4 Euro for a 'small' which is the size from my pictures. The servers were all very quick and professional. I really appreciated how much effort the workers put into their jobs. And the interior was SUCH a vibe. It was like an old-fashioned creamery with very classic tables and chairs.
Came to get the gelato here because of the raving reviews. We came late on a Tuesday night and waited around 15 minutes in line. You pay first with what size you want and if you want cup/cone. Felt rushed ordering, they gave us a cone even though we paid for a cup. Make sure you know what you want before hand because he did not like when we asked what the flavor profile difference was between lemon and limoncello (we tried looking it up in line but unfortunately there's no signal here). Pistachio gelato was really delicious nice and creamy!! I prefer pistachio bits in my pistachio gelatos for added texture which this one didn't have but that's not to say the gelato wasn't amazing it's more of a persona preference. The lemon was very tarty and refreshing!
Old world charm! On the recommendation of our apartment host, we visited Giolitti for a gelato. The café is just beautiful - it exudes old world charm with elegant wood panelled interiors and glass display cases filled with delicious looking food. The coffee is nothing special, but the gelato was sublime!
It was my first time visiting and overall lots of options. First you pay and then you go to the counter to get what you ordered. I got a small and it comes with two flavors. You can only eat in if you don't order the to go options otherwise if you get to go you won't be allowed to eat inside. Overall it has the ambience of a milkshake shop!
This was one of our favorite gelato spots across all of the cities we visited in Italy! The place is massive and there was a large crowd of people, as it deserves. You order the size you want and pay at the register, and then take your ticket to the counter to order your flavors. I got the pistachio and dark chocolate, and o m g was this delicious. Maybe it was because it was my first gelato in Italy but I was actually mind blown by how good it was. I've had my fair share of gelato, but the flavor and texture of this was perfection - so smooth, and the pistachio and dark chocolate flavors were so intense and rich. I can still remember being astonished by how good they tasted. There is a lot of good pistachio gelato out there, but this one was something special for sure. Highly highly recommend trying!
A great gelato spot that was in an easily reachable location - they do not offer seating for their customers who only order gelato though, only for those ordering food/drinks. You pay at the cashier and bring your receipt over to another line to get your gelato. Lines move quickly though. The ambiance is casual. They have lots of flavors - we tried the pistachio and salted caramel, both of which were delicious. The salted caramel was sweeter than I expected.
Our Airbnb was few blocks away from this place, there was always a line here so decided to check it out. The gelato was just okay, nothing special. They have sir down service and to go as well, you pay a little extra with sit down table service. Staff is super friendly. I'd though skip the place if looking for authentic gelato flavors.
While traveling in Italy, a family member highly recommended Giolitti's gelatos. So, when we were in Rome, we found a branch near where we stayed and decided to try it. The gelato is superb! They have many flavors, and you can choose a few for your cone or cup. The larger size lets you mix more flavors. On our first visit, we tried about four or five different flavors and loved them so much that we stopped for a second time a couple of days later. Their gelatos are very flavorful and not too sweet compared to the average ice cream and gelato in the US. The line was long, so you might have to wipe your mouth often if you're drooling too much while looking at all the gelato options. The staff is very quick and helpful. It's an experience worth trying if you are in Rome.
Wow!!! Amazing gelato here!! I know there are many gelato places to choose from, but you have to try this place and compare it to other places and you will see the difference. The line was very very long when we got there. Don't be afraid to get in line though since the line moves quickly! We were out in the street waiting and line was constantly moving. You paid for the size of gelato and then you stand in another line to get the flavors you want. There's indoor seating, but you are not allowed to sit there if you are just ordering the gelato. There's a line to sit in the cafe.
Probably the best gelato I had in Rome, if not very close. It was both thick and creamy and the flavors were rich and a wide range of them. I went back twice to confirm how I felt about it. My favorite coffee flavored gelato stop. Loved the old school feel of Giolitti. It was very crowded on both my visits, but the line moves quickly. Their system is that you pay first and pick out your flavors after, which can be a little confusing. Definitely a staple worth visiting.
Super popular gelato shop that opens late! Pay first at the front then head to the counter to get your gelato in either a cone or cup. It was 10:30 PM, but still busy with a lot of people enjoying their gelato outside. Theres a lot of flavors to choose from. I went for a small which includes two flavors: I picked strawberry and pistachio. The gelato was so good! The flavors were rich and the consistency was perfect. They have a lot of reviews for good reason - they have really good gelato. Highly recommend this spot for gelato in Rome!
Did some Research to find the best gelato in town and noticed this was a very hotspot so I put my GPS on and started to walk for about 10 minutes and it was worth it when we arrived It was only a few people there in line so I started to make mine and then I realized once I got up to the gelato station you had to purchase your ticket at the register first and show the gelato server your ticket so that way they can make your selections. Soon a huge crowd started film the place causing me drop my gelato on the floor. One of the servers saw what happened and I took my order again. the parlor was so authentic and old-fashioned with staff was friendly most importantly the gelato was so good especially with the added whipped cream on top, there was seating inside and outside, and they not only have exotic gelato flavors, They also have baked goods and coffee too.

This would be the perfect spot to take a break from exploring - there are a ton of seats in the back and it's a cute little place. I got dark chocolate and Nutella, which were both great but wayyyy more decadent than any of the other places I went to, so kind of wish I got something else. Next time! read more

Came here since it's the most famous and everyone said to try it in Rome. It's very busy and crowded but you must try it along with others so you can compare. They do have lots of flavors. Pay at the front for what you want then get a ticket. Bring your ticket to the counter and pick your flavors. I got a small and got 2 flavors pistachio and salted caramel both were delicious but wasn't the best I had in Rome but it was good. Not sure why but the cones also taste better in Rome. read more

Widely popular gelato location, so beware of how crowded it can get. Good news is that the line moves INCREDIBLY quick, as they do not allow you to sit if you're are ordering strictly gelato (take away only). If you order tea or any food for sitting, you may sit. But as most people are only here for the gelato, the line moves at a really good pace. You pay first and take the receipt to the counter to get your food/gelato. ALWAYS top it with crema, you deserve it. read more
The best gelato I've had in my whole life, this place is amazing. The coconut and pistachio gelatos were to die for, they're so rich and made with high quality ingredients. The staff here doesn't speak much English so we ended up overpaying because we couldn't communicate properly with them. But instead of keeping the extra money, they gave us extra food! During our rome trip, this was our favorite gelateria. We were a little disoriented when we came in, but the way it works is you pay up front,specifying the size you want, and they give you a ticket, which you take to the counter and then pick your flavors. They had a couple of tables, but these are limited. Outside there is a couple of benches that you can sit on as well. read more
We got pastries and gelato here. Getting the pastries was easy but pushing thru the crowd to hand in our receipt and order our gelato was intense. The Nutella flavor is just frozen Nutella. It was very dense and heavy. Everything else was good. read more

Giolitti was our best Gelato experience in Rome. This is that real stuff. The only unfortunate part of our experience was seeing that the establishment offers pear gelato on the screen-- yet, it was nowhere to be found. This disappointment struck the customer base like a farm that's out of cows. Regardless, we pushed forward and found the best flavors-- Nutella & Pomegranate. Not together. But they're the best. Mango too. Thank you Giolitti, bring back the pear. read more
Ordered: Medium Cone (~€5): 2-3 flavors (strawberry, pistachio, tiramisu) includes panna (cream) Aya's take: Last night in Italy and Giolitti was truly the cherry on top! There are 2 lines - at the first line, you select what size cup/cone you want and pay. They give you a receipt which you will take to the second line where all the flavors are. There is an overwhelming amount of flavors so I definitely recommend having some go-to's in mind before your turn. All three flavors actually blew me away and the cream (panna) on top was soft like a cloud and not overly sweet! The flavors also blended together well. Perfect stop for a nighttime stroll in Rome. read more

Best gelato I had in all of Italy. I got mango and pistachio, and then they blessed me with some whipped cream on top. It was freaking delicious. The mango was not tart, and tasted very fresh. The pistachio flavor was perfect as can be. My cone was crunchy and also tasted great. You have to pay first and then go to the gelato counter, and there can be a line (but luckily we beat the rush). I will always dream of this gelato, and this place would be my only reason to revisit Rome. read more

I got here around 9pm and there was a huge line. It didn't take too long to get my gelato though. They didn't let customers sit inside, which was weird. Everyone was just standing outside and eating their gelato. Regardless, the gelato was so flavorful and the consistency was perfect. This is a must when you go to Rome. read more

Best gelato of my life! A friend had recommended this place and it did not disappoint! I spent 2 wks in Italy and ate A LOT of gelato and this was hands down the best I've ever had! I can't even begin to describe its amazingness. It was not overly sweet and tasted very authentic. Sometimes hazelnut can taste artificial but this did not! Wish I could go back soon! read more

Best gelato I've ever had. I tried gelato from several places in Italy but Giolitti was easily the winner. I got pistachio and raspberry. Both flavors were extremely good. I liked the pistachio more but the raspberry was very delicious as well. I added cream on mine as well. I don't think I'd add cream on mine on the future but I am happy I tried it with cream. I want to try all the flavors. Hopefully I will in the future! read more

Giolitti is an Italian gelateria, café and pasticerria that opened in Rome, Italy in 1890. It was founded by husband and wife Giuseppe and Bernardina Giolitti. The family sold milk from their own pastures in the Roman countryside. Pretty soon, thanks to the quality of their products, Giolitti became the official supplier of the Italian Royal Family. In 1953, the gelateria was famously featured in the film "Roman Holiday" when Audrey Hepburn's character tastes some of their delicious gelato. The Giolitti family still owns the business over 120 years later. They have a reputation for being one of the best (if not THE best) gelaterias in Rome. They are just a four minute walk from the Pantheon. My wife and I visited Giolitti in July 2018 while we were honeymooning in Italy. On our last day in Rome we were sightseeing and stopped somewhere for lunch. Afterwards, we really wanted gelato and had heard great things about Giolitti. The interior of the place was so fancy; it reminded us of a time when soda fountains were common and ice cream was served to customers from staff dressed in red aprons, bow ties and paper hats. They had so many delicious flavors to chose from. We both decided to order waffle cones. My wife had a scoop of Peach and a scoop of Pomegranate while I had a scoop of Limoncello and a scoop of "Roman Holiday". This was definitely the best gelato that we had in Rome (maybe even the best we had in all of Italy). Each flavor tastes exactly like what it is flavored like; it was amazing. We'll definitely be returning the next time we're in Rome! read more

Everyone on tiktok said giolitti had the best gelato and I would've agreed if you asked me 10 years ago, but now... it's not what it use to be. The service was also terrible, extremely rushed and rude. The berry flavors tasted artificial and the only decent flavor we tried out of six was the chocolate. read more

BEST GELATO IN ITALY !! hands down. there was a huge line when we came here and i was apologizing to my mom because i had just found this place on Reddit and wasn't sure if it was worth it or just a tourist trap. a girl who was just finishing a study abroad semester in Rome turned around to tell us that this was one of the Pope's favorite gelato places and he apparently used to get it delivered ?? She said his favorite flavor was (insert name i don't remember but it's the one with) hazelnut. don't quote me on any of this but i wouldn't blame him if true. this was hands down the best gelato i had in all of italy although the vibes were a little chaotic. you order & pay for what size you want & then you go into a separate room to decide which flavors you want. i had the hazelnut & pistachio and they were both delicious. the pistachio specifically (my favorite flavor) was so delicious and i spent the rest of my time in Italy trying to find one that compared but alas, i could never one as good as this. it just tasted so much more fresh than others & there were actual chunks of pistachio in it which i love. Also there's a good amount of indoor seating but i find gelato best enjoyed while walking around & taking in the sights. do not miss this place!! read more
Well I suspect that if you are reading this, you are having a serious craving for some gelato right? I know we did, so much so that we went on the hunt for a gelato joint pretty late on one evening while in Rome, Italy. We left our hotel, cracked out our trusty Yelp mobile app and opted to give Giolitti a try and I can honestly say we were not disappointed. It was a nice relaxing walk to their location and we found that it is directly behind the Spanish embassy located in Rome. Why is this of interest you say? Well it seems that they actually close out some of the streets behind the embassy where Giolitti is located, meaning it creates a very nice place to hang out, chill out, meet the locals while you partake is some Italian gelato deliciousness. Now although Giolitti does have gelato, they also have baked goods, chocolate and all sorts of other sweets and treats so it seems their is something for the whole family here. Now the gelato they serve here although great, it is not the traditional gelato, which is called "Gelato Artigianale". The difference is this type of gelato is always made by hand, is extremely fresh and only made with locally sourced ingredients. Now don't get me wrong the standard gelato is absolutely delicious here at Giolitti but please make sure you find a shop that has the hand made variety as you can't leave Italy without taking that style for a test drive. The key giveaway will be that the gelato will be covered at all times. The helps to keep the gelato cold and fresh as this type of gelato does not have any real preservatives in it. Cone or Cup? No worries all gelato shops will provide a selection of either and depending on the size of each chosen, they may allow you to choose up to three (3) separate flavors so knock yourselves out. One last thing to mention is similar to some of the Caffe's in Italy you will need to order and pay for what you want first, at which point you will get a receipt. Once you have your receipt you can walk up to the gelato station and they will take care of you pretty quickly but be warned even at this late hour there was somewhat of a line. No worries well worth the wait in my book. Actually this system of paying first then picking up works quite well as the servers don't have to worry about taking any payments. Anyway, overall things turned out well for the evening. Who can beat taking a late stroll through the streets of Rome, talking it up with locals and other tourists while taking in some tasty gelato.... One of life's little pleasures right! A friend recommended this place as her 'favorite gelato in Rome'. It just happened to be on our route from the Panteon to the Piazza del Popolo and so we stopped by. There was definitely a gathering inside but it wasn't overly crowded when we arrived. You must prepay for the size gelato you want and then take the ticket to the scoop counter where you pick from about 60 flavors. We got medium size (5€) which was 3 scoops in either a cup or cone (cake not sugar). I saw dark chocolate which was a no brainer (DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT EATING THE DARK CHOCOLATE!!!). I like to have a tart sorbet with the chocolate so I went with pomegranate which I have never seen in the states. It did not disappoint. It was tart, a beautiful color and perfectly, fresh Pom flavor. My third choice was caramelized fig, another flavor I have never seen in the states and a fruit I love. It was a creamy gelato and I found it delicious like fig jam mixed with fresh cream. My friend got Nutella, farrrrr superior to any Nutella I've ever had in the states. It was rich and smooth, deep with hazelnut and cocoa flavor. She also chose chocolate chip and salted caramel. Then they top it with fresh, homemade whipped cream which they spoon out of a vat onto your gelato. The only disappointment was the cone which I thought was a crispy sugar cone but it was an airy, crumbly cake one which is not my favorite. read more
