For an appetizer, started out with the hand rolled breaded mozzarella cheese sticks. These panko breaded sticks are the best tasting cheese sticks anywhere, and comes with a perfectly paired delicious marinara sauce for dipping. An order contains 8 large sized sticks, I find it hard to avoid filling up on these before the pizza is brought out! Also had a deep dish build-your-own cheese pizza. This pizza has a unique flavor, mostly due to the crust, I feel like it has kind of a fermented, almost beer-battered flavor to it. Nice option once in awhile for a different taste from the standard cracker or Italian bread type crusts served at other restaurants. For the thin crust pizza, my wife is a big fan, but I drank it about average, so I suppose.its worth giving a try to see what your personal preference is. read more

I haven't had Gino's East in years. I forgot what it tasted like. Me and a friend made the travel to the Wheaton location for some deep dish on a Saturday afternoon. (Pro Tip: Deep Dish takes 30-45 min to prepare, so we called in advanced to dine in). The pizza was pretty good. The sauce was saucy, the cheese was cheesy, and the sausage had good flavor. We did crumbled instead of the patty. The best part was the crust, particularly the edge, it was soft and sweet, really good. The wings not so good, but we're here for pizza. Nice restaurant in nice downtown Wheaton, with plenty of shops and other restaurants. Would definitely recommend going, and I will go again too! read more

I worked at the St Charles location back in 2015. So after coming back to Chicagoland for the first time in 3 years, I longed for that familiar taste of deep dish and this is now the only location operating in the suburbs. My friends and I split a large sausage patty supreme pizza, half without mushrooms. I guess we confused the cook because he came to our table to make sure he understood the order. We appreciated him taking the time to make sure he was making our order correctly. The pizza came out in about 35 minutes and it was cooked very well. Crunchy crumbly crust (which looks like it has cornmeal, but it really doesn't!), great sausage. The tomato sauce did need a little seasoning, I had to add extra Parmesan and oregano to balance out the tomato flavor. To drink, I started with a local draft beer and unfortunately, it wasn't served properly, there was no head whatsoever. Afterwards, I switched to iced tea, and I'm glad it was fresh. Parking is available on the street, if you can grab one or you may have to settle for the garage and pay a few bucks. read more

Gino's East always used to be my FAVORITE pizza place, and it was disappointing when they began closing their locations. To reminisce, my good friend and I visited the Wheaton location for lunch a few weeks ago when she was in town. We each had a personal pizza (sausage, of course) and side salad. We ordered house chips as an appetizer. Everything was actually really good!!! The location was disappointingly sparse during lunch time, though. The interior was dim, but it felt more dingy than anything. Fast forward to last week when I decided to treat my kids to some Gino's. We ordered a Large sausage and chopped salad for Curbside. I'm confused about Curbside, I guess, because our order ended up being marked as "Take Out." I had called, and a nice young man nicely brought out to us in the back parking lot. The pizza itself was a bit underwhelming this time: the sausage was a bit overcooked and tough. My kids turned up their noses at it, so I was stuck eating most of it for the next few days. There could have been worse things, I suppose. Overall, it was just OK. I think I would only take advantage of a lunch special in the future. read more

Well, I've heard a lot of positive and negative things about this restaurant from my friends. So we decided to stop and try out this restaurant. First impression was very nice lay out and super friendly staff. We ordered the garlic bread sticks and "Meaty Legend Deep Dish Pizza ". Well, the waiter was super nice and brought the drinks faster than we expected. However, there was something in the water glass (see clip) and we asked the waiter to have different glass of water, because stuff in the water happened everywhere. Sadly, the second glass of water still have more stuff in it and we didn't bother to ask for another one. Because we didn't know if the waiter really brought different glass of water or not. The garlic bread sticks was okay, but the pizza was great. We will revisit this restaurant in near future and hoping we will not have any problems. Vegan Surcharge Ridiculous! We visited Gino's East Pizza for gluten free & vegan pizza. Absolutely Blown away by the vegan aspect. The pizza was good - for vegan and gluten free, it was good - not great but good. The toppings and cheese was about an inch and a half from the edge of the corner. Mainly crust - when we asked why this was when the 'regular' not vegan pizza arrived, we were told it was probably due to the fact that vegan cheese costs more than regular cheese. Now here's the fun part - the bill came.... We were charged $6.50 EXTRA for vegan cheese PER pizza! what?! On top of a $30 pizza to begin with?! Sorry but a vegan pizza for nearly $40 is ridiculous!!!!! Especially when you skimp on the toppings. I will go elsewhere. read more

Shout out to Eddie! Just landed in Chicago and dreaded the drive into downtown, found this location and called to see if I could make it because I'd arrive 30 minutes to closing time. I told Eddie one of my customers said I should try a Chicago deep dish at Gino's, he asked what I liked for toppings and he got it started. When I arrived, Eddie greeted me by name setup a stool at the bar and made me feel very welcomed. The pizza came out, I had a local IPA with it, all good! Pizza was excellent and fed me through my entire trip to Chicago. Eddie even told me about the Sherman Oaks location back home so I can bring my family to try one. We'll see how the Chicago pie compares to the Valley version back in CA. read more

Ok so I've grown up eating Gino's deep dish. I became gluten intolerant 7 years. While visiting my family last week I was told that Gino's has a gluten free crust. Needless to say I was very excited. Well, not all gluten free crust is created equally. Some restaurants make a point of creating their own while others take a shortcut and buy a premade Udi's or Rudi's crust. Gino's either come up with your own, authentic, delicious gluten free crust or don't offer it at all. Huge disappointment! read more

I was beyond excited to share this experience with my friend from out of state. So much so, that I called ahead to have the pizza piping hot when I arrived at 5:15. We arrived 5 minutes early and were eager to sink our teeth in. Words cannot describe how hungry we were driving from out of state, and the anticipation was growing as our mouths salivated. Once the pizza arrived...it was stone cold, as if it had been left out for 30+ minutes. They asked to send it back, and we obliged, but it didn't have the razzle dazzle a fresh cooked pizza would have had. Seeing that there were only two tables total in the entire restaurant says a lot. Unfortunately I will never be back, nor my friend. It's a shame so many Gino's locations are closing, I fear this may be the next one. (Picture shows the Luke warm pizza, no steam, no gooey cheese. Since I was in the neighborhood and hadn't been to Gino's in years, I decided to grab a deep dish pizza and some garlic breadsticks to go. How bad could it be? Have you heard the saying "even bad pizza is good"? Well, not here. I've never been so disappointed in a pizza in my life. I got half sausage, half cheese, and the cheese side was utterly flavorless. The sausage is the only thing that saved the other half. I had to add Italian seasoning, parmesan and red pepper flakes to the pizza to make it tolerable (note: they gave us only a single red pepper flake package for an entire large pizza). Also, why do they charge full price ($4) for the sausage when it's only put on half the pizza? Should be $2 if you're not trying to gouge your customers. It doesn't end there, though. The garlic breadsticks were bland too. You're better off getting some from Olive Garden, and you'll pay less. The dipping sauces were absolutely disappointing as well. The marinara was just plain bad, the blue cheese was off, and even the ranch was terrible. How do you screw up ranch? Ask Gino's. I miss the days when they had the delicious garlic dipping sauce (or at least the location that used to exist in Oak Lawn did). To add insult to injury, the bill was $42 for the most disappointing meal I've had in a very long time. Save your money and treat your taste buds to Lou Malnati's, and never look back. Now I understand why Gino's barely has a presence in this state these days. It's sad, too, because I used to love them. They were my introduction to deep dish pizza, but it was the location in Chicago. Maybe that one is still good but this one definitely is not. In any case, I will never eat here again. We dined in at Gino's on Jan. 2. The waiter was very nice, but the $128 bill (not including tip) was not worth and the deep dish pizza was not as good as usual (very dry). We also ordered a "family" Caesar salad for 4 (but it really only fed 3) that cost $38 and only had lettuce, cheese & croutons on it. We did not know we were being charged as if we ordered four separate salads, which we should have just done as we would have each gotten much more salad! And, we also ordered a gluten free pizza w/pepperoni which was listed in the menu as costing $20 plus $3 for the pepperoni, but we ended up being charged $28. This was more than the $26 large deep dish pizza that fed 5 of us! I thought we had been overcharged for the gluten pizza and salad as the menu does not show any extra cost for the gluten pizza "four cheese", which we later found out cost us an extra $8. And, a salad that barely fed 3 people with virtually no toppings was $38? Ridiculous! However, the worst part was talking to the manager. She didn't care -- never offered an apology for the menu not being clear (or even listing the cost of menu items), and definitely had a "oh well, not my problem" attitude. It doesn't take much to make me want to return -- a simple "I am sorry for any confusion" or "We can give you 5% off your next order", was all I needed. But no, there was zero concern by the manager. We will not be returning to eat at the restaurant and it's up in the air if we will order take out from them ever again...unless they get their menu updated to show accurate pricing. read more

OHMYGOSH!!!!!! This is really good pizza! My husband is not much of a deep dish fan but my friends and I made him try a big ol' deep dish pizza. We were starving so not only did we order a sausage deep dish. but we also ordered a spinach deep dish AND a large thin crust half cheese/half meat pizza. AND we had to have the mozzarella sticks. (Oink!) Very excited there is a Gino's East in Wheaton! It's about time. The mozzarella is perfect, not too greasy, nice and hot, stringy cheese served with tangy marinara sauce. Mmmmmm I can't have enough mozzarella. Then we all gorged ourselves on the deep dish and thin crust pizzas til we burst. It arrived piping hot, sauce was really thick and tangy, and the cornmeal crust is sooo delicious! Our server was super sweet and she joked around with us, she was on top of our orders and refilled our drinks very quickly. The outside dining area is perfect as they have the heaters and comfortable seats. The interior is very interesting decor, plus very clean. The bathrooms are also very clean and tidy. Ordered a stuffed and thin crust, very disappointed in both. The stuffed was "watery", maybe because we had spinach added or they watered down the sauce. Very frustrated on pricing. Here I Google Gino's East Wheaton while I'm trying to figure out what I can afford. I know this place is a lot more expensive than the average pizza place, but I wanted to treat my family. I see clearly marked, a Large deep dish Meaty Legend is $22.35. Great, still expensive but it's a treat, so I call to order. Then the total I hear back on the phone is nearly $10 more! WHAT?! I tell the guy on the phone the online price on Google maps (attached to the Wheaton location) and he said that it's wrong. I change my order to a medium which is still almost $10 more than the listed price. I go in to pay and the manager said those prices aren't for her location and that they wouldn't be able to stay open if they changed that little. She said the online prices for their location is what I need to look at. Well!... their website has no prices but the prices I looked at was for Wheaton! We were regular Gino customers when there was a place in Rolling Meadows and the place off of Barrington Road. What we liked most about the pan pizza was the fact that it wasn't just a pan of cheese. When we found the Gino's East in Wheaton we could hardly wait to try the place. We order the pan with pepperoni, onion and green peppers. This was our special birthday dinner for my two sons and myself. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. The pizza was barely warm and 90% cheese. Nothing like it used to be. Hahaha...just no! Not even close. This was a take out order so I'm not commenting on the service. I will say, delivery guy was friendly enough. Kept wanting to have a conversation about how good their deep dish was for some reason. Didn't come with parm, crushed peppers or even napkins. Pretty standard to see one or all of those things...or at least ask on the phone. On to the food....gross! Maybe I'm not their clientele but wow. Greasy, terrible take on this crust. Cheese was thicker than crust and was a firm block-like layer. Got two thin crust pizzas and an order of some sort of spinach motz stick's. What the heck were those things?? Inedible. Order arrived luke warm and took 1 hour to deliver to a location 1000ft away...shame on me for not picking it up. All for $70 with tip! Lol...I'm good guys. It's been ages since we've been to Gino's. I'm sorry we didn't get back sooner. Gone is the graffiti of old (at least in this location). Writing on the wall always made the place feel dirty, but not anymore. Visited with my college roommate from Virginia. He ordered the Meat Lovers and I had the Spinach, both stuffed of course. What a treat! The sauce was rich and sweet (but not too sweet) and unlike some other pies - NOT TOO SALTY! The sauce was perfectly balanced. The cheese was rich, flavorful and really fresh tasting. The crust was crispy, I think it may be made with a touch of cornmeal, at least the taste and texture leads me to believe so. All in all - teeerific pizza pie. Can't wait to go back! read more

I can't believe how far Geno's East has fallen. Went in on a week night- a few other tables & the booth we were set in was so low to the ground the table was up to my neck?! Atmosphere is not up to date- looked dingy. Our server was good and took our order rt away (she was not the problem). We were starving so we got the salad for 2, $12. I'm sorry but to pay that much for basically some Iceberg lettuce (looked like it had been frozen??) w /a few onions & olives with little flavor...nope. Def not a gourmet salad! Got a medium pizza with crumbled sausage. Could hardly find the mushrooms and the onions were almost raw. The sauce was the only good part since the cheese was just barely hot enough to be 'stringy-melty'...the crust tasted dried out- the whole pizza tasted DRIED OUT. I had asked for fresh 'cut up' Basil leaves to top my slices. What the server brought out was a cup of dead brown basil, they were actually so old they were starting to rot. I rarely complain but at our bill I told her and to her credit she took the cost off. From the crappy booth seating to the dried up, luke-warm pizza I won't give $64 to this place EVER again. You'd expect this from some dive off the tollway...NOT in an 'upscale pricey town like Wheaton! read more

We stopped at Gino's East after church and decided to try something other than pizza at a restaurant known for its deep dish and thin crust pizza. We wanted something different so we tried the spinach mozzarella sticks. It was an interesting blend of spinach and mozzarella. You can have your vegetable and protein and carbohydrates at the same time. The sticks tasted a little like a stick version of cream spinach and you can dunk it in marinara. I decided to try the mixed Italian beef and sausage sandwich. The sandwich is enough for two meals for me. The meat tasted great and the sandwich was nicely baked and not microwaved. You have options when it comes to a side: fries or pasta salad. I tried the pasta salad and enjoyed the mixture of vegetables and pasta. If I could suggest fruit as an additional side option. My wife tried the chicken fettuccine with a side salad. The side salad is huge and hit the spot for my wife. She enjoyed the fettuccine too although most of it came home for lunch another day. The waiter seated us promptly and took care of us. As the room filled even the manager helped out in serving the food. With the weather improving it was nice to see the patio with people eating outside. The cost is reasonable and you can purchase discounted gift cards at Sam's Club. They are worth the visit. So disappointing. We had a large group with 13 people that we made reservations for. I called about an hour and a half before reservations and asked if we could have the pizzas pre-ordered so we didn't have to wait long. The person on the phone made it sound like that was a great thing so that they could have the pizzas ready when we get there. I figured it was a win win deal. Once we got there, we waited 40 minutes for our pizzas to come. They were pre-ordered but it took 40 minutes to get. The worst part of it, is that they had been sitting on the shelf for a long time. They were lukewarm at best. They were definitely not hot. We had six pizzas in total and none of them were hot. The service was difficult to get attention. We paid five dollars per person for a salad but ran out of salad dressing and had to get up and go to the hostess stand to find a server so that we could have more dressing. For five dollars a person, you should not have to work so hard to get a decent salad. The server, although sweet, was not well trained. She got the wrong drinks, never asked anyone for refills, and didn't seem to really have a good management over the table. The worst part of this, was that the restaurant was not even crowded. It was a slow night despite the rushed feeling we got from the person who appeared to be the manager. When we had to address her about our service, she gave us the feeling that she was upset with us for even mentioning it. We drove in from out of state for a day in Chicago and we're definitely looking forward to Gino's East pizza. Sadly, this is been taken off our list of places to go to in the future. I don't mind paying the increased prices for a meal, if it's really good as Gino's has typically been. This place is definitely ruled out for me in the future though.
