Terrible! We ordered Hunan chicken, which is a spicy dish, it was bland. The chicken was not raw, but the vegetables were undercooked. We had the house lomien, it was made with thin spaghetti noodles and had almost zero pork, chicken or shrimp. The pork egg rolls had no pork in them. There is not sit down service. The dining area is gloomy and looks like it is being used for storage and babysitting. Two young girls came out of the kitchen in their pajamas and a teenage girl was at the counter for pickup orders. The girls coming out of the kitchen makes me wonder how sanitary the kitchen is.

The lunch specials are huge! I had the general tso chicken which was more like orange chicken without the orange, but still alright. Mom had the cashew chicken, not many cashews and a few random mushrooms. Service was a little slow with only 2 other tables being served. Would come here again if in the area and looking for some inexpensive eats.

Miso soup? They water this down and tasted disgusting

Can't believe this place is still in business. Rather eat my own socks after running a marathon.

Tried the kani salad, just a mess of surmi, too few cucumber bits, a slightly spicy mayo dressing. Meh. As promised I tried the Kung Pao chicken, well, not up to my standards. Toned down for local tastes there were no dried, red/black chilies, just a few red pepper flakes. Huge plate of food for the price, plenty of nice veggies. Sauce too oily and seems to be a standard on all their dishes. Grandma's sesame chicken the usual breaded and deep fried stuff with the same gloppy sauce, too many calories. A sprinkling of seeds or peanuts doesn't make the dish...... 4 stars because of the good tea and service, no music today, that's fine too!

Look closely and you can see the black hair on the fork which was in my food!

I ordered general tso's chicken and i found a black hair in my food so i called them and told them about the situation and they said we can give you a refund...so i wait about 20-30 minutes for the guy to arrive and i eventually got fed up with waiting so i called them back a 2nd time and they said they were too busy to deal with me at the moment. So overall this was a bad experience and even worse customer service i will never order from here again.

First bite said it all, very bland and unimpressive. It didn't seem particularly dirty which is why I gave it two stars.

Egg rolls were hot, crispy, and not as greasy as others have been from other restaurants. Portions were very large. Chicken fried rice was well done, but chicken pieces were very small and meager. Beef with broccoli was loaded with broccoli, but the beef pieces, while plentiful, were very thin and overdone. Brown sauce was good but quite bland. Maybe it's my fault as my girl didn't want anything spicy. Of course, as with all food these days, it was a bit expensive for what we got. Unfortunately, that it what is happening today. All in all, I would recommend Asia Restaurant for your delivery Chinese fix

We'd order some with every takeout order, and most of the time they were decent. Tonight was my first order in months. I ordered online, and in the 'Special Instructions' window, I typed the comment: "Can we please make sure the rangoon is filled this time? Last time I ordered, there was hardly any filling inside. Thank you". When we finally received our order, my son and I noticed how incredibly "liquid-like" the rangoon filling was. And while we questioned whether they were trying out a new filling, we continued to eat them. My son ate a few and then jumped up, and ran straight for the restroom, where he promptly vomited. I became nauseated shortly thereafter, but no vomiting. I decided to call in to the store, and the owner (before even allowing me to continue with my complaint about the rangoon filling) became highly confrontational, saying: "What do you want me to do? I've been in business for 5 years, and no one ever complained about my rangoon!" After singing the same song about her rangoon and the "lack of complaints", I realized I was getting nowhere with this woman. Unbelievable. Never again. The quality of the food has gone down significantly over the years, as you taste more grease, than food. But I still tried to support this business. This longtime customer, is now a customer no more. Disgusting food, to go right along with a disgusting attitude. Good riddance.

This restaurant typically provides quality, fresh and very delicious food. Lately though, the quality has slipped. This change has been recent as in the last six months to a year. One of my favorite dishes from them is their general tso chicken. For the last year or so they fry the meat so hard that there is usually a piece on each piece of chicken that you have to remove from your mouth because you can't chew through the pieces. I bought something recently and the gravy was what looked like and tasted like tinted water when it was supposed to be a heavier gravy. Tonight though I was most disappointed. The fried rice which is typically fresh and light in color with vegetables, onions and eggs. This rice taste like a lightly greasy rice with maybe a few pieces of peas carrots and maybe a cube piece of an onion. The meat taste half fresh but the rice doesn't. We also ordered chicken on a stick. Under usual circumstances, they have the BEST chicken on a stick but tbe ones we purchased this evening was thin pieces with no flavor, none. I'm not sure what's happening but we can't continue to spend good money on bad food. When you try to reach out to inquire about the order they are almost argumentative. These are definitely not the folks that were there for years. Makes me sad because there isn't a restaurant nearby that has food that taste as good as theirs used to. Not sure if the restaurant in Front Royal has gone down hill. I'll probably give them another chance in a bit and if the quality is still bad, I'll have to pass on them from now on. Sad situation

But what we did get was pretty darn good (if a bit pricey)! The style is much more authentic, so if you're looking for something like Hunan Cafe (Greenbriar), or that NOVA institution China King, this is different. Is it better? For the most part, yes. (But I still crave that Americanized sweet, spicy, glazey brown sauce that comes in slight variations in so many dishes). I had the hot and sour soup, Szechuan spicy fried eggplant sticks, Taiwanese rice noodles with fried tofu, and the Chengdu twice cooked pork. Everything was excellent, except....the hot and sour soup. Honestly, Hunan Cafe and China King beat the pants off this place's hot and sour soup. Here, it was a bit too sweet. It had some red chilies in it, but I could not detect much white pepper. And it's a vegetarian version, so no small bits of chicken or pork. I'd skip this the next time I order from here. But the other dishes... amazing! The noodles were light-tasting but still delicious. The eggplant was garnished with cilantro, garlic, salt, and red chili sauce. The twice cooked pork was sauteed with sliced leeks and the same red chili sauce. I think that's the fresh, zingy, spice flavor profile I like that can't be found at Americanized Chinese restaurants. Sure, China King has its place and I'll still go back there when I'm close (RIP China King Fair Lakes and Herndon). And admittedly, I go to that awful Panda chain occasionally because I never learn. The unfortunate thing is, I'll more likely go to these places than Cheng's because of the price. The pork dish was $21 and the noodle dish was $19. My total bill came to $60 before tax and tip. If I need to stuff my face with a Chinese umami bomb fast, I'm probably going to the other places for $15-30. I do want to try the rest of the menu at Cheng's, but it's going to be a drawn-out process for the sake of my wallet. I'd be remiss if I didn't include a comment from my dining partner. She compared the quality and taste of the food at Cheng's to Peter Chang's (either Peter Chang's-Herndon, or Mama Chang Fairfax). A high compliment. But she said the value is better at those places' AYCE options than what we got at Cheng's, and I agree. If you've been to none of these places, you have to try them all at least once.
