Service has improved significantly! Gotta get credit where credit is due…read more The food has improved, too. Noodles more palatable and meats less salty. I still think more sauce is added to the rice than is necessary, and I would not order the hibachi scallops again...but the shrimp and mushrooms continue to be delicious, and the veggies pair so well with the fried rice. Love those veggies.

I really hate leaving a bad review for them because they were very nice, but I take food seriously. I've eaten at some of the best and worst places in the country. Sushi- on the edge of not being edible as sushi. Slight fishy taste. Tuna was a little off colored for sushi. The dynamite roll was burning hot and too much garnish sauce on top, probably to hide the fishy taste. As a general rule, if the ocean is too far, don't eat the sushi unless it's flown in daily. That said, I've had bad sushi in Vegas too, but this was not good at all. This is only the second time in my life I've left sushi uneaten. The hibachi- A LOT OF RICE!!!! Ridiculous amounts. A good amount of filet too, but the butter mix is weird, the oil is a cheaper oil and the soy sauce just taste weird. I brought the meat home for my dog. I absolutely will not go again. Kills me to say that because I eat sushi at least once a week , but I'd prefer to travel for quality sushi especially if it's something that could make you sick and I've been sick from bad sushi before... it's not fun.

We are quite particular about our sushi, typically avoiding the mayo so many places love to drown their sushi in. While Zen House has some of those on the menu, their sushi was excellent overall and definitely added it to our list of places.

The sign was so small you couldn't read it from the road. We had a reservation but they seemed surprised to see us and not ready for a party of 7. However, they quickly recovered and seated us in a back room all to ourselves, which was nice, however, it was one of those 90 degree days and I didn't feel any AC. The furniture was a little hodgepodge and the chairs seemed like something from an old conference room rather than a restaurant. Not very easy to get in and out of. No matter. We got settled in with menus and drink orders taken. I had a chicken teriyaki rice bowl. It was okay nothing outstanding. One lady had a chicken teriyaki noodle bowl. The rest of our group had various rolls. I thought for the price the food was average and a little on the pricey side. The service was good and we did have this little private room to ourselves. Would I go there again? I would but it wouldn't be my first choice. I was really disappointed because I love the charm of Berryville and I was hoping this place would a little gem I had yet to discover. Hopefully it gets better after they settle into their new location.

Have tried Izakaya Nana, Genki Izakaya and Super Kyuramen and been to Izakayas in Tokyo and Kyoto…read more I love that so many Izakayas have opened in the NoVA area. The bad thing about Genki Izakaya is how crowded it can be. I'm not sure I would show up without reservations again. I've been there 3 times, the first time we didn't have a reservation and the hostess seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. She said the waitlist was very long. We decided not to wait. The second time we also didn't have a reservation and the hostess again seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. This time we did wait and were quoted 1.5 hours and it actually took about an hour. Not as bad as quoted but still busy! Third time we finally had a reservation and it still took us 20 mins to get seated as they did not have a table ready for us. To be honest the restaurant itself seems too small, they probably could be twice as big. The reason is the food at Genki Izakaya is in my opinion the best of the 3 Izakayas in the area. The Yakitori is good, hot and reasonably priced although I wish they would let you customize the $20 Yakitori Platter. I tried the A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Hot Stone and was surprised that they cook it for you instead of you cooking it yourself on the hot stone. The waiter overcooked 2 pieces of the Wagyu which is annoying when it is so expensive but overall it tasted great. I like their Tonkotsu Ramen, it broth tastes great and I've had ramen all over this area, in New York City, LA area, Tokyo and Kyoto. It isn't the best I've ever tasted but it is really good especially for this area. Once seated the service is good and the food comes out quickly and everything we've had has tasted great. The only problem is how crowded it can be because its so popular! Only bad thing for us is it isn't too close about a 45 min drive but worthwhile - definitely try it if you like Izakayas and Japanese food.

However, in the years since the pandemic, I can't help but feel like the quality of the food's gone down. I'm not sure if the recipe's changed or if they're using different ingredients - but it's just not that good anymore. I recently got the chicken hibachi for their lunch special and immediately, one of the things I first noticed was just how rubbery the chicken pieces were. They also tasted off and not even the yum yum sauce (which I'm pretty sure is different from the one they used to have) could save the taste. They also have a different mushroom soup now that has a lot more spice in it and the taste doesn't match with how it used to be. That being said, I will say that my wife has always enjoyed their sushi here and has never had a complaint on that. Also - the staff here have always been super kind and attentive. We've never had a single issue with the folks that work here. I can't speak of the atmosphere or state of the restaurant since I haven't dined here since 2013. Osaka's is also another staple of Culpeper and frankly - tastes better than Dragon Chef in my opinion. I just wish my recent experiences were as good as my old ones. If nothing else, the staff here are amazing and their sushi is worth coming back here for again and again. Best pricing for their lunch specials!
