A quick seating for a quiet dinner on Valentine's Day. The starter - Try Thai Platter consisting of Chicken satay and grilled chicken on a skewer with a delightful peanut butter sauce, steamed dumplings, crunchy rolls, fried pot stickers and fried tofu. Overall the platter was filled with the tasty bites. The fried tofu was the only thing that definitely needed sauce to add any sort of flavor. We also ordered additional crunchy rolls to take home. I ordered the Tom Ka again because it is an amazing soup, again it did not disappoint. Main dishes. She ordered the Crispy duck this time because of my experience the last time. Well...the basil was a bit soggy, the duck was soggy and not at all crispy. She also ordered it three spice which I thought took away from a lot of the flavor. I was going to order the whole Cod but they did not have any on hand so I went with the Thai crab omelette. What a great choice. How they pack so many flavors into the food is beyond me, yes the textures are kind of the same all the way through but even the rice tasted great. If you want to add different levels of heat, ask for the spice tray. The dried spices kind of blew my head off so I stuck with the pickled jalapeño and red pepper spices. They also had a drink special that she had and if you spent over $50 you received a free valentine dessert. Strawberry cheesecake. I just finished hiking a 25 miles section of the Appalachian Trail and was looking for something filling. I'd heard this place was really good, and the hostel owner I spoke with said the food is delicious. I hobbled in wearing my camp shoes due to blisters and was directed to a table. The interior is clean and spacious. The tables are not packed together. There is a also a bar, and the sign says they serve sushi. I noticed immediately that the menu says they are a Thai Select restaurant. I eat a fair amount of Thai food but am not a big fan of really spicy food. I asked the waitress what is popular there. Based her recommendation I chose chicken pad Thai. I also wanted a soup so I asked for her recommendation again. Based on her representation that it wouldn't be too hot for me, I ordered the Tom Kar soup, which had a coconut milk base with some spices and mushrooms. I had chicken in mine. The soup came out piping hot. I let it cool a bit, and it was one of the most delicious soups I've ever tasted. If I lived in town I would come back just for this soup. Now, I've had chicken pad Thai at a lot of different restaurants. In fact, I tend to try a basic entree at a new restaurant, and if I like that I'll go back and try something new. This pad Thai was very good, and I would feel very comfortable getting adventurous with the menu here. The waitress was on point with her recommendations and nothing was too spicy for me. We came in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Space was light filled, high ceilings, calm and cute decor. They swiftly accommodated large group of 11. Service was kind and quick. Food was ample, fresh and flavorful. I found a fine range of menu items for vegan, vegetarian, gluten free friendly eaters. Such a cute restaurant with beautiful decor. There's some street parking. We came here around 7 pm on a Friday evening and the staff was very friendly! We ordered some drinks, the Melon Margarita and the Vodka Thai Basil Smash. The Thai Basil Smash rated just like a lemonade and the Melon Margarita was very flavorful. We didn't try it but you can get beer towers here too which I thought was cool. For our appetizer, we tried the Try Thai Platter. Everything on there was so good. We loved the Chicken Satay and the Pot Stickers. For dinner, we ordered the Crispy Duckling and a combination Pad Thai with beef, chicken and shrimp. Both are delicious. Service and food were quick. This restaurant is located on (what appeared to be) the main commercial street in Front Royal. We had driven north along Skyline Drive through the morning and wanted to increase our lunch options by exiting Shenandoah NP. Front Royal's downtown is less than 5 miles from the park. We found parking at a central city park but there may be even closer options if you venture off the main street a block or so. As it was, we walked the 3 short blocks back to the restaurant. There are a lot of other small shops and restaurants along the route. The restaurant itself is built into an older structure with high ceilings. There is plenty of seating. They had a piano along one wall and a tiny stage-like area towards the front. Maybe they have live entertainment on weekend evenings? We were there at lunch on a Friday, and we were one of only 2 tables occupied at the time. They seemed to be doing a good take-out business though. The menu featured a good selection of dishes, including a lot of the standard curry and noodle items you'll find in most any Thai place in the U.S. I got a panang curry, which was good. The portion was not so large that I couldn't finish it. My wife liked her dish also. They also featured sushi, though we did not try it. Service wasn't rushed, but we had time to relax and enjoy the meal. It was fun to walk around the downtown area after we ate, also. If I returned to Front Royal, I would definitely consider a return visit here. read more

Took a day trip to Shenandoah Skyline Drive - Unfortunately after there was not much to see because some part of the park was closed. We ventured to Skyline Cavern with was an amazing tour. After the Cavern tour we stumbled across Try Thai. I was a little skeptical because there was only one group of people sitting there. I was not disappointed. I ordered Thai style dumplings and man these were GOOD. I also had Pad Prik Khing and there was a burst of flavor the moment it entered my mouth. My friend had Kua Gai and my sister Kra Pow Gai Sub and their dish was equally as good. Our server "Sa" was very polite and made suggestion of dishes we should try. Sadly I've resigned myself to Front Royal having aggressively average Thai food at best. It's a shame because you can go to Winchester or Harrisonburg and get very good Thai food so I don't know what's happened to us. The pad Thai would be like candy if I didn't request spice added. Probably one of the worst bite of food I have ever had there. Always order Thai Garden vegetables No meat no tofu. This was broccoli, cabbage and a brown beef broth gor a vegetarian dish. Decided on an early dinner walk-in (~5pm) on a Saturday at which point the restaurant was still fairly empty. Started with a Papaya Salad ($7), which actually blew me away! Incredibly flavorful and just the right amount of spicy and sour. Then for mains, we got a chicken Pad Thai ($12) and a pork Thai Wild Herbs ($12). Again, I found the pad thai to be very flavorful, not too dry or saucy, and best part, portion was massive! I was really surprised by the thai wild herbs too. If you're all about strong thai flavors, this is the dish for you. Highly enjoyed it. Prices were all very reasonable for what we got. The restaurant is quite large, including a nice outdoor patio area out back, so I felt pretty socially distanced the whole time, even as dinner customers started filling in. No complaints on service either, waitress checked on us a handful of times, and was super friendly. Wonderful food, excellent service. I came here with my wife after a long weekend of backpacking in Shenandoah. We were super hungry, so we ordered a lot. The wonton soup was perfect. Delicate broth and super flavorful filling. Papaya salad was fresh and spicy, perfect amount of fish sauce. Bikini shrimp were crispy, and not overdone, served with a unique sweet sauce. Pad Thai had perfectly done noodles and a well balanced sauce. Pineapple Fried Rice was flavorful and generous with the cashews, pineapple, chicken and shrimp. Fried banana was a sweet and savory finish. Light and crispy. Lovely. The staff worked diligently to attend a rather full house. We were well attended by friendly faces in a cozy, welcoming space with thoughtful lighting and delightful music and decorating touches. First timers and came for my bday bc I wanted Thai bad, and was disappointed. The lunch special coming in at $9.95 only included a small, cold spring roll that literally had nothing inside it. The lunch portion was not a bad size but could have been a two dollars cheaper when you consider no perks come with it. I paid an extra 1.25 for a small cup (though listed as a bowl) of Tom yum soup( flavor was inconsistent through the cup). The pad Thai had an odd smell to it- that made it a little off putting, and to tofu was over Done and too chewy. The massaman curry was a little thin in consistency and too mild for our taste. Waitstaff only seemed to care for larger tables and those with expensive drinks. I don't know that we will return. read more

The broccoli was bad - bitter tasting and you can see rotten spots on it. When we brought it up the waitress told us that's how they bought the broccoli, not even an apology. I have had my share of Thai food across the country, it's amazing to see great Thai food in a small town like Front Royal. I had the red curry, Thai hot, with chicken and it was just enough. Ordered the Thai dumplings for delivery. Menu advertised 5 pieces for $8.95, but I only got 4. The dumplings were miniscule and extremely dense. I would not order them again. I also ordered the Tom Yum noodle soup with shrimp for a whopping $19. It came in a 32 oz (?) plastic soup container with just 6 medium-to-large size shrimp, and a side of warm Thai rice noodles and bean sprouts. I liked it, but the flavor was different from other Tom Yum soups that I've eaten. This one claimed to be "medium hot", but I found it to be lacking in any heat. Overall, I'd give the place a C+. Food is okay, but not great. And the portions are very small for what they are charging. read more
