One of my favorite coffee places in the world, and some of the best in the Ithaca region. All the roasting is done locally, and even the perfectly-rendered baked goods are made right here in town. The baristas are skillful, knowledgeable, and friendly, no matter which location you visit. If you are visiting the Ithaca area, and you are a coffee lover, skip the Starbucks, and make a visit to Gimme! a priority on your list of things to do while you're here. Not only do I regularly buy coffee, tea, beans, and pastries at Gimme!, I have also purchased all my home-brewing equipment from them, including a Hario manual hand-grinder. Recently the "Clever Dripper" I purchased from them some time ago began to leak, and although it was old and in no way under warranty, Brandon at the T-burg location traded it out for a brand-new model. Their cold brew is great for a hot day, with a deep, thick and refreshing taste that will certainly cool you off when you're in need of a summer caffeine rush. They've typically got at least two drip coffee options available, usually a medium-dark and a dark option. One of my favorite aspects of their coffee selection is the descriptions of the coffee you'll be tasting. Similar to a tasting of fine wine, Gimme! provides you a short, brief and digestible blurb on the coffee bean's history, flavor and distinguishing characteristics. It's a small thing, but it matters to someone actually concerned with taste and with considering coffee as a serious subject. Of course, this is all my personal taste. If you just want a quick cup of joe, they do that just as well. *** Gimme! is Ithaca's best coffee shop, and this is Gimme!'s best location. You won't do better. *** Service is unexceptional, which is why they only get four stars here. It's not that they're not friendly, as I've seen them talk politely with other people, but come on-- they haven't done this with me, and I'm not on their payroll. *** The interior of this place looks like an Apple Store's Genius Bar. Seriously, everyone here's either working on their Macbook or (probably) talking to their friends about how best to obtain one. Been coming here since before the beginning (The Oak in Collegetown) And I've found the baristas have become increasingly unfriendly and cold. While I don't expect gushing smiles or song and dance, a modicum of friendliness would make for a more pleasant exchange. After all this is the service industry. Terse one word answers accompanying a sour look makes for a bitter drink. Maybe it's just that I'm getting old and am not a young hipster? Get over yourselves baristas. I have worked in various aspects of service (food, entertainment, healthcare, home care) for over 30 years so I know what it's like to deal with hundreds of people. If you like the coffee but but don't want to "deal with" customers then either work in the back or go back to being a customer yourself. Great coffee though... The week I was in Ithaca Gimme! Coffee was one of the places I frequented for my caffeine fix. There's a location in New York so if I really liked it I could always come back. Their coffee was great and they even have fun seasonal lattes. The space is huge and full of a lot of seats. The people who worked there were also really nice and helpful when I was trying to decide what to get. My friends in the area told me this is one of the best coffee shops in the area and they did not steer me wrong! read more

Not impressed with the Ithaca coffee scene as a whole, but I was least impressed with the service and quality of Gimme on W State Street. Immediately after leaving here, I went to Collegetown Bagel for breakfast; I wish I had waited and ordered my drink there, too. The ambiance of the shop was nice; the shop is well-lit and spacious, with a decent layout. GC boasts a second room for people to work and drink coffee, instead of having to deal with the counter and constant customers. However, the baristas seemed really checked-out. I ordered pretty quickly, but didn't get my coffee for nearly ten minutes. I can't remember what I ordered (it was probably a latte), but it was burnt and not worth the price. read more

I'm not feeling the Gimme Coffee vibe. I see their red exclamation points everywhere, but after this last visit it'll be a while before I put one on my car... 1- The barista was rude in a detached can't be bothered kinda way. He had difficulty controlling the eyeroll when asked questions about ingredients and practically ignored my child when she was ordering. Half the coffee shop experience is the barista, so things didn't start off well. 2- The price for coffee was high, so I was expecting a superior coffee experience. Unfortunately not so. My espresso had hardly any crema (it took so long to come out), no twist, no spoon, was bitter, and they asked if I wanted milk (in an espresso?). I should have taken the blank stare when I ordered espresso with a twist as a clue. Next time I'll go for a latte. 3- The flow is just terrible. You have to walk past dirty dishes, waiting customers, and customers in line to place your order. Strike that, reverse it! Customers shouldn't have to navigate a maze to place an order. 4- The ambiance was cold, quiet, not much seating. We wanted to look at the art on the walls, but felt more like leaving. Le sigh. Small coffee shop should be warm, welcoming, good music. It smelled great in there, but that was the highlight. I like to support a local coffee shop; I miss the coffee houses of the early 90's!! So in that vein, I'm glad they're able to make it in this Starbucks-drenched world. But they've got to step up the customer service game and learn to make/serve a proper espresso. GREAT COFFEE but Super snottsball service from staff: I was here earlier today..the two ladies that were working were awesome. Came back this afternoon to (evidently) bask in the vibe from the too cool to be true hipster asian guy with thick black glasses. To the owners/managers...you're running a great shop... your coffee and baristas are known regionally and nationally...this particular kid is snotty to your customers and should be counseled. As a coffee shop owner myself, (third wave shop serving Verve and HCR), I know my joe... but when I finally got the kid un-bunched from the threesome they were having around the espresso machine, he walked up, did not say A WORD OF WELCOME and stared at me waiting for me to order. I could not remember what drip coffees were available from earlier in the day so as mentioned I wanted an 8oz and looked down and right to see what was featured, I had barely begun to ask what was on drip when the kid said "i'll save you the pronunciation" and poured my coffee. The rest of the interaction went about as swimmingly and after grumbling something about only one offering in the afternoon I was off to this table..to enjoy what is actually pretty damn good coffee. Really awesome! We popped in Saturday morning for some coffee to wake up and stayed awhile. They have a number of specialty coffees offered (they change depending on what they happen to have in stock). I selected a specialty coffee and waited my five minutes for the pourover (like a Melitta) to work its magic. The coffee was very flavorful and satisfying. I put cream and sugar in all of my coffee but this cup only required a small amount because the flavor was so good. The barista also told me that at noon they would be having a free cupping (where you learn about and taste selected coffees, much like a wine tasting). We decided to stay and I am so happy we did. It opened with a PowerPoint presentation about origins of coffee and different methods to grow and cultivate coffee and how different coffees can have different flavors. Then we were walked through what to look for and judge in various coffee, and then finally the tasting. It was a really great experience. I learned a lot about coffee and had a great time. The atmosphere was fun and welcoming. I was told that they do special events almost every Saturday. If I am ever back in the area on a Saturday I'll be sure to stop by. read more

We stopped here for the first time while waiting to eat dinner down the street after seeing the sign when we were parking. This place has a lot of room if want to hang out or do some work!. They have outdoor seating shaded by trees so if it is a hot day you can still be outside. And the best part of all: the stamp cards. Buy 9 drinks, get one free. With, get this: no limitations on your free drink. I have NEVER seen any place below 12 to get a free drink!!! I had a Hazelnut latte and man was it good! The flavor in the beans was very evident unlike Starbucks which tastes like pure chemical sugar. My only complaint was it wasn't hot enough so next time I was ask for extra hot! Coffee in the time of covid: First, kudos for being open and experimental during this time. However, there is LITTLE to NO communication or customer service. My boyfriend and I are on our first upstate NY trip since the pandemic. The first day, I made a point to order $20+ of merchandise in order to get delivery. I ordered at 1030am, and I did not get my coffee until 1145am. When I called about the order, I was informed that the store was closed from 11am-12pm for cleaning, and because I ordered at 1030am, my order was bumped to 12pm delivery. No apology or attempt at customer service. And no mention on the website of this policy. But at least I got my coffee delivered. Next day, I ordered at 1017am, and got a call at 1115am from Alexis saying my order was ready for pickup. Again, I had ordered $20+ mainly for the reason of delivery. I drive in to receive my order, and Alexis tells me that they don't deliver on Sunday due to staffing. No apology or attempt at customer service. And my latte was over the top sweet to the point I couldn't drink it. I'm sure there will be turnover as in service industry, but this round was extremely disappointing. Not just because it's conveniently located next door to where I work (though I'm sure that factors in), I'm here every day because the coffee is amazing, the baristas are warm and friendly, the baked goodies are great, and I've never once been unhappy with my order. Recently, stopped here as I was visiting Ithaca this morning, cold temps with flurries thought a hot drink sounded good. Looked up coffee shop reviews and decided to give it a try. Ordered a small latte with Oat milk which they are apparently calling a cappuccino these days, no foam just amount of milk. After waiting in line for about 5 minutes while the young lady behind the counter finished up her friendly conversation with another customer, I found her to be a little rude. I have been a barista and managed a coffee shop, so I can be very picky. I asked a few questions so that I could get my drink the way I like it, the young lady seemed bothered to have to answer my questions, she was just rude. I am an espresso fanatic, perhaps even a connoisseur, and this is one of the best crafted-coffee producers around. Not only do they roast amazing coffee in small batches, but they produce perfect drinks (try an 8 oz. latte) every single time. Perfect espresso, perfect milk, latte art. Admittedly, I've not been to some of the coffee houses in Seattle & San Francisco in years, but I have been around. I've had my fair share of espresso in Italy (over the course of 15 years), I've sampled drinks from countless coffee houses across the U.S. (including Intelligentsia in Chicago, which Gimme! is better than)... and Gimme! is one of--if not THE---best. I would give Gimme! six stars if I could. (By the way, I prefer the Cayuga Ave. location. Please note that they also have a Brooklyn, NY location, which I've not yet visited.) read more

I had to take a 2 minute phone call and stepped into the hallway next to the bathroom (which was empty), a curmudgeonly staffer from the back office quickly lurched out the back office to loudly scold me for "going where they really don't allow anyone". Ok, so no one is allowed to stand next to the bathroom? And you'd rather me take my phone call in the middle of the house where I'll disrupt all your guests? This was my second stop on my quest for really good coffee in Ithaca. I am not from Ithaca, and I was actually talking to my friend who lives there and started out my morning, like most mornings, saying "please give me coffee." She was like, okay yeah we can go to Gimme! Coffee. I had no idea Gimme! Coffee was a place. Anyway, so we walked over to Gimme! Coffee. The inside decor is simple, but they seemed to be going for a minimalist/trendy look from the way they had their display/cash register area set up. It seemed to be a nice, local coffee shop with a bright interior. The seating area didn't really have a unique vibe, but there was enough seating so I was happy. Regardless, I was there for the coffee. I opted for a bacon cheddar scone and an iced coffee. I love love love savory scones and this one did not disappoint. The coffee was good, but tasted almost a little burnt. I wouldn't say the best coffee I have ever had, but it was good and definitely did the job. If you're a coffee lover in Ithaca, I would say check out Gimme! Coffee! It's always fun to go to local coffee shops. read more

Easily my favorite coffee shop in Ithaca. The drinks are phenomenal. A little on the pricey side but worth it. There are some bakery options as well if you're in the mood for a snack. The baristas are friendly and the atmosphere is great for getting work done. There is usually a great playlist, but I suggest bringing headphones as well. As for the atmosphere, sometimes the music can get a little too loud for a coffee shop in a college town (ex: playing "Love Shack" VERY loud - I've experienced this more than a few times, which seems odd). Decent espresso and very good sweet treats. The espresso has a molasses tone when done right. Generally, the "latte art" and microfoam are outstanding, however, it varies by location and barista. Recently the barista quality has gone down. Shots are poor and milk foam for espresso drinks watery. Hit or miss. read more
