Ordering a hamburger at Gil's.
Grant P.

The good: It's cheap. Really cheap. A burger, potatoes and a coke for $5.50 (tax included). The burger is full of raw onions and a good thousand island style sauce. The size is good but not too big. It's a decent burger. No complaints. You can also get toast which is really toast with eggs and ham for $2.75. It's good and will do in a pinch. This also comes with coffee, but it's almost undrinkable. The bad: While I like the idea, the boiled potatoes are only half heatedly cooked on the griddle and have no flavor. The coffee is terrible. Overall: This place is super divey and it's cheap. It feels cheap also but if you stick to a few staples it's fine.

$7 for a teriyaki combo with a soda and a small lettuce salad with dressing

I consider myself a food snob (or at least that's what my wife calls me). But I like visiting "hole in the wall" places. I've walked past it multiple times and it always seemed busy. So today I gave it a try. The interior was clean, the staff very friendly. Even gave me a recommendation on what to try. I ordered the chicken teriyaki platter and was shocked that it was only $7, including the drink. They made it fresh and it was delivered quickly. About the only negative I have is that the teriyaki had a very very slight (and I mean slight) taste of hamburger. Obviously from cooking in such a small place. But I hardly noticed and give. The price, I can't fault them. They have a large selection from burgers to teriyaki to burritos. They also have a REALLY inexpensive breakfast menu (egg sandwich for $3.50 including coffee- try getting that at McDonald's even!) Basically give it a try. I'm confident you won't be disappointed I would recommend for anyone

No french fries just boiled and fried round potato slices (awful) the burger is barely average. Burger King is a better option.

They're seriously some of the best fries I've had--perfectly crispy, well seasoned, and incredibly addictive. Also, huge shoutout to Anthony, the manager. He was awesome--super friendly, attentive, and clearly cares about making sure people have a great experience. Great food and even better service. Definitely coming back!

I have carried life's burden and traveled continents, but one thing remains the same after my many moons of life, the taste of a Big Mac. The taste of a burger so consistent and familiar, that my tastebuds can traverse continents and taste fermented shark in the Netherlands, broiled Mackerel in Kyoto, or a cheeseburger in Reykjavik. The Big Mac stays the same. I went to LA to taste, apparently, the best burger in LA at For the Win. I paid $25 for two smash burgers and had high expectations. After all, when you click this joint on Google Maps, a fancy review pops up. Nice! However, when the smash burger entered my cave and caressed my buds, my mind instantly recognized it as a Big Mac. Therefore, my brain could hardly differentiate between a McDonalds burger, and the "best" burger in LA. I haven't eaten at McDonalds in 14 years, but my mind still knew what a gentle and warm face looks like. So overall, it was alright! As the reverend Shane Gillis says "Not Bad". The service was good tho. And the ambiance was a bit weird because the music was off. Haha bye!!!

This…read moreplace has amazing burgers when they actually follow the receipt and do what they're supposed to. However on more than one occasion they have failed to live up to that expectation. At first I thought it was a discrepancy on the sites I was using but their carelessness on their be half has continued to show. In my most recent experience it has led me to write this review. I came here on Sunday night after working a twelve hour day doing hair and ordered $63.94 worth of food. When I received my food I was given four burgers. I originally ordered 3. The young man at the counter was saying he didn't know why but I could have it and it was fine. After I received my food I went to the drink fountain which was completely overfilled and leaking on the floor as well as the drink counter space making the area look nasty and unkept. I notified the young black guy and he walked over and proceeded to clean it and I ordered my uber home. My uber was 37 dollars. When my uber driver asked me how I liked IRVS I ranted and raved with nothing but compliments expressing how pleasing their burgers are. When I arrive home I opened my food and my entire meal with the exception of one burger (which was messed up since they ran out of bacon) was wrong. Not to mention they upcharge for any little changes you make to your food so to get home and see my order was messed up had me extremely disappointed. When I went to call them nobody would pick up it's as though the phone was off the hook. Two people in my household said they'd make due with what they had and I'm sorry but my taste buds wanted my chili con carne ($4.55 up charge and my added grilled yellow peppers another upcharge) so I did uber back up there and at this point I am fuming. I asked for my money back and in an attempt to hurry up and get me out the facility I was given it back. However I also wanted my burger. I was still willing to pay however the Hispanic man with the stretchers in his ear thought it was cute to say I already gave you your money back and you didn't even bring all the food back. A part of me wanted to take the burgers and throw them at him but instead I looked laughed and said yeah I won't be ordering here anymore and proceeded to let the customers in line know they have a tendency of messing up orders and to be sure to double check their items. This location sucks as mentioned before they have messed up my order on a good amount of occasions and I just chunked it up to the fact that those times I was on a courier app but to have my food messed up and then they knew they messed up they tried to throw in a free burger to compensate is just trifling. I spent 70+ dollars just on ubering from there and back up there and they didn't even try to remake the burger is just crazy. I would've been okay even with a discount on making a new burger. Customer service is f***ing 0/10 . I should've known it was going to be a mess when they said they were out of bacon and when I looked at the disgusting soda machine. These fellas didn't care about customer retention or keeping loyal customers satisfied. Throw the whole crew away or at least get a better crew.

To say I'm super bummed is an understatement. I am so thankful that I happen to stop by for lunch and visit this location one last time. The same manager was there on the last day as when I went the first time two years ago. The staff there was always amazing, friendly, and the food was incredible. I think it was the Chinatown location that didn't work for them. However, the good news is that they do have three other locations and if you have never been, I suggest you check Kroft out if you love burgers, especially smashed. The other locations are in Long Beach, Anaheim, and Rancho Cucamonga. I wish them luck and I will definitely be stopping in their other locations if I am ever in the area.
