This is a hidden gem. Yarnell.is a short drive from the metro phoenix are up a winding road with amazing desert views. Yarnell itself is a small town at the edge of the mountain amongst the granit rocks. Gilligans is tucked behind a small yellow building and includes a small bar with limited indoor seating and a larger porch with outdoor seating. The staff was small town friendly and attentive. The food was top notch, their kitchen really knows their stuff. I ended up choosing the gyro for lunch. The tzezeke sauce was fantastic! As you know the sauce makes the gyro and they get it right! My wife got a French dip and was amazed with it. Our friends got wings and they too were amazed with the flavor. A group of 8 of us hiked the Granite Mountain Hotshot Memorial Trail and then came here after. I had called about a week ahead and made a reservation. When we arrived our table was waiting on the deck, and our server brought our drinks right away. The pizza was delicious and really hit the spot after our 7 mile hike. I'm just not sure how this place has high reviews. Let's start with when we arrived (us and a friend in cars) were warned not to park in front by this older and less than friendly woman because they didn't want us there in front, so we had to squeeze a place down the street when they had ZERO customers at the place (I kinda see why). So we brought our dogs because on Google it clearly states (picture included) they are dog friendly. So we roll on up in to the place and as we were going up the steps this younger woman very dismissively stated no dogs are allowed. So there were NO signs anywhere outside the facility stating this anywhere until you start to go in and up the stairs, which honestly is just too late. Hey, do yourselves a favor and post this outside so people don't waste their time going to what we all felt is a very unfriendly environment for your customers. The woman who snapped at my wife regarding some BS law about pets and then having the fricken nerve to then argue with my wife about the fact Google said they are "dog friendly" (it's an outdoor patio for Christ sake), she needs to go! We live local and there is just no way anyone we know would go there! We down the road a little ways to the T-Bird cafe and we were treated with respect! Many people we know recommended Gilligans, so we finally tried it out. Highway 89 to Yarnell is such a majestic mountain experience to behold. The massive granite boulders are like sentinels guarding the area of the Granite Mountain Hotshot Memorial Park and Trail. It was too cold to sit outside so we sat at the live edge wooden tables and took in the cool vibe. Service was quick and friendly. We settled on two medium pizzas to share (The Big Island and The Veggie), soul warming cappuccino, and Stella beers. We were served the biggest "medium" pizzas I've ever eaten. The thin crust pizzas had fresh veggies, to-die-for sauce, oodles of cheese, and great meats to savor. Cauliflower crusts are available. Gilligans has full bar service, happy hour (2-4 pm), tasty appetizers, mouth watering pizza choices, specials, and is open 7-days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A great find. The owner told my mom and our disable friend when they sat down "get back over there I didn't tell you to sit here" I confronted the lady and she started screaming at me, this is the owner! As we are walking out she said she was going to call the cops on me lol for what? She is a crackhead and their food sucks their dishes are never clean.. the service is bad and when I called today the guy yelled and me and said never come back, really? Been there may times, loved their pizza. I stopped on Saturday noonish and hardly anyone there. I must have been the last one to get the memo, the pizza was terrible. $36 for a large sausage and mushroom and 2 beers. They use frozen dough, no sauce, no mushrooms, hardly any sausage, and undercooked. I wish I had taken a photo. I told the waitress how disappointed I was. I would have thought someone like a manager or owner would have spoken to me, nothing. Reading the recent reviews I can tell this place is on a decline. Read down further and the owner responded to a bad review blaming the customer. laughable.... and if that's their attitude, won't be long and there will be a for sale sign in front. We took a motorcycle ride up there Yarnell AZ, to get out of the early heat in the valley. We stopped in at Gilligans on the recommendation of our neighbors riding with us. Well let me tell you what ..from the moment we walked in we we're greeted with some of the best hospitality around. We took a table out doors on the back deck and it was a beautiful day to enjoy the cool air and cold drinks. The deck is gorgeous, like sitting in your best friends back yard. Our waitress (her name slips my mind at the moment) was on spot, as well the gentleman helping out. Our drinks were always full and we didn't need to ask for anything. We ordered a medium pepperoni pizza and 1/2 dozen garlic rubbed wings. Wow! The pizza crust is to die for- this crust was full of flavor in itself. The sauce has a tangy taste that was complemented by a generous portion of mozzarella cheese. The wings were a nice surprise. They were baked (not deep fried folks) to perfection and rubbed with some butter type sauce. They were delicious. If you're ever in or passing through Yarnell, AZ make it a point to stop in at Gilligans. The other person outside wasn't really doing anything other than harass new customers about the seating policy. The policy wasn't the issue. It was the way that she spoke to not only my group but other customers as well.
