Y is for Yarnell, AZ!…read more Continuing with my alphabet series, the second to last letter of the alphabet, Y, was a tricky one. This is the only letter that is not in MD, VA, or DC. Couldn't come up with anything in my part of the country. Yarnell's slogan according to the sign: 'Where the Desert Breeze meets the Mountain Air.' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yarnell,_Arizona I'm from AZ, remember when I worked in Prescott, and traveled a few times on that job. One of the times was when I went to the SE part of Yavapai County to an obscure area maybe near Stanton (a ghost town), which was 5 miles down a narrow dirt road with some steep cliffs. Yarnell sits at about 4700' elevation (slightly lower than the mile high city of Prescott) and Stanton is at least 1000' less. So, it was a steep drive down & back up the hill. It had to have been in May 2007...wow 11 years ago. It was sunny & hot that late Spring day...maybe 90 F at Stanton...probably in the low 80's in Yarnell. On the way back to Prescott, I stopped for lunch at the Yarnell Family Diner. I was hungry, and there weren't many choices in Yarnell, a town of only 649 in 2010 census. I remember the sandwich I had was quite good & filing. The staff was friendly.

A great little family dinner, conveniently located in Yarnell. We love to stop in the small towns…read moreand patronize the local eateries that keep traveling through on road trips alive and well. This little place has a big menu. The service is terrific. We ordered the bacon cheeseburger with regular fries (although there were many choices in fries - including sweet potatoes). We also ordered the open face roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes. The food was, hot, fresh and hommade, like eating in a family kitchen. The prices are very reasonable (average 9.00 for a good home cooked meal). Rather than eating fast food on a road trip, we suggest spending time in local cafe's and diners - to enhance your experience. Thank you to this lovely little diner.

Visited 12/26/2025…read more Loretta and I found a favorite Place for Chicken Fried Steak. We didn't think anywhere in AZ could beat CrossRoads Cafe in Parker AZ for home made Country Fried Steak & Gravy. Has been our favorite for many years but now Spurs Cafe in Wickenburg has taken our hearts. Magnificent Food, Great Service. A Very Special Place. Spurs Cafe https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fg%2F11fhxzg7kt&hl=en-US&q=Spurs%20Cafe&shndl=30&shem=ptotplc&source=sh%2Fx%2Floc%2Fosrp%2Fm1%2F3&kgs=f39015da11962027 Only a little over an hour from here in Brenda AZ this historic little country Cafe was Amazing. Loretta ordered A Side Order of Chicken Fried Steak & Gravy only $9.00 Fantastic Seasoning nothing more needed and Covered most of the plate. The price was a surprise for this sized serving. Big enough for two. I chose The Meat Lovers Omelette with Spicy Potatoes and wasn't disappointed. $16.00 Very filling for sure. We also got a side of Fries $4.00 and Onion Rings $5.00 Both were perfectly fried and seasoned. It's well worth the drive for the best CF Steak we have ever had. Also Amazing Service. Can't wait to return and try Lunch.

Bacon is thick cut and mostly meat and not fat, flavor filled sandwiches and the prices are less than you'd expect for such quality and big portions. Servers are very friendly, professional and personable and move like their on skates. I'm from Vegas and eat here 3-4 mornings or lunches a week.
