Let's get this out of the way. Screw Buc-ee's. Venture capitalism at its finest. PLEASE blaze the 15 minutes North (if you drive like I uhhh...do not Texas State Troopers) and make it to Centerville...STOP HERE INSTEAD. Their BBQ was made here...not in a different zip code in a non-descript building... First and foremost...I am a people person. There is not a DAMN person that works here and is not smiling, ready to help, and overly friendly. The young lady who helped me at the counter smacked her engagement ring and started crying noting she got it LAST NIGHT...I politely gave her the name of my personal jewler and she lit up like a Christmas tree and came around the corner and gave me a hug. At my age...it'll polish out. At her age it is a scaled down version of God. She beamed as she took the kids, my wife, and my order. The food. This is gonna be easy... 6 Brisket sammiches and 1 chopped tub pulled pork please...for those keeping count there are only 4 in our party...the rest of the sammiches were to take home cause I won't be back this way for a bit. I do not know what kind of rubber and magic voodoo they make their BBQ sauce from but it's the best...re-read that...the...best...I...don't grab as many as I can and take them home... Ditto the pickles. I cannot get anyone at the store despite my patronage to tell me where they get them but the beat the HELL out of Del-Dixi and Vlasic. THE MEAT...Brisket...Smoked to perfection. Perfect crust. Generous portions. Not overcharged...NOT MADE IN ANOTHER ZIP CODE AND SHIPPED IN like the beaver company. Yes they do. Friggin tourist trap. Just juicy Texas goodness. The chopped pulled pork...order a tub. Take it home. Wrap in a homemade tortilla with the aforementioned sauce...you're welcome...Or dump in scramblers for the most epic breakfast burrito you can make and take "credit" for as your guests are amazed. Pro tip...Food Save ANY "leftovers...heh" you may have to savor down the line. IF YOU want the true religious experience stop on the South 45 Shop. The smell alone is worth it. Jerky is second to none. My only niggle...BRING BACK THE CHRISTMAS HAMS!!!! My mamma gets mad at me when I come up for Christmas and Woody's didn't have them this year. Soooo... TLDR time. UBER staff? Check. AMAZING everything in the store that has the name "Woody's" on it? Check. BBQ? Double Check. That damn sauce...Check. Not Bucc-ee's? Check. Keep driving. It is worth 15 minutesish of your life to get here instead. Rock solid 10 stars.

Another brisket that relies on a BBQ sauce. Got some Cajun turkey jerky. It was good, had what appeared to be an "oil" for flavor, but didn't leave a residue. Also got jalapeno beef jerky it was so dry and stringy that after a small piece I decided not to eat the rest of the $39 lb. Jerky. Not sure what changed but it will a while until I come back. Maybe a one off, but won't find out for a while. The staff that I encountered were wonderful. All were friendly and willing to help out.

He was so kind & helpful. They have these amazing caffeinated TEAS that I've never had anywhere before & their large is actually a massive LARGE. it was great because we didn't have to stop for any more drinks the rest of our trip! Then they have a local market next door plus they were doing a farmer's market that day outside so we got to stretch our legs & spend $ on small businesses. I would even go so far as to say I would move to Centerville just for this coffee shop hahaa Such a good experience! It is now my official stop when driving to dallas every time!

Never expected myself to drive two hours for some ribeye steak, but it was worth the experience. We…read morerandomly scrolled on YouTube and watched someone rated this THE BEST in Texas so we had to check it out. What makes this place unique is that they use charcoal, have make their own rub, you can order as many ounces up to 32oz I believe, and they only sell ribeye steaks. The place is called the general store because that's what it used to be when first started doing business in the 1980s but later expanded and converted into a steakhouse. We got there at 4pm and there was a little bit of a line already. The restaurant is only open three days a week each day from 5:30 to 9. On Thursday they have fried catfish and Friday and Saturday they sell only steak. The minimum order starts at 10oz and each ounce increment is a little bit extra charge. We ordered the 24 ounce to be shared between the two of us total is about $70 and we still have some leftover. The charcoal flavor was not overpowering, but the seasoning of the steak was perfectly balanced. Usually, I eat my steak with extra pepper or chimichurri, but this one I was able to eat without any extra seasoning. The surface of the steak look heavily seared but the medium interior was really juicy and succulent. I could taste more char on the edge pieces. After the steak we headed to their second shop next door for some malt shake. I got the cookies n creame flavor, it was milky and not overly sweet like any other milkshakes. And the malt flavor lingers on the tongue after each sip. I was debating to get another one but chocolate flavor but I was too full. Service there overall was very welcoming, and dining area is really big, the interior feels like an old western cabin but very clean and spacious. Great for family gatherings too. They also have a BYOB offer for people who love some good sips along with the smokey steak.
