I stopped at Buc-ee's in Madisonville around 8:30 PM. The parking lot was nearly empty, and I parked my semi truck all the way in the very back of the lot, away from everyone. I walked in planning to spend maybe 20 minutes max just to buy a few souvenirs, snacks, and a few things to take home to my kids and family. Shortly after I walked in, I was approached and told I wasn't allowed to be there because I came in a semi truck. I explained that I was only going to be inside for a few minutes to buy a few items, but I was told they would not allow me to purchase anything. I was also told, "Unfortunately truckers are not welcome." Those were his exact words. That was extremely disappointing to hear. Truck drivers are a huge part of what keeps this country moving. We deliver the products businesses sell every single day, including the products sitting on Buc-ee's shelves. To be told we're not welcome and not even allowed to make a purchase is sad and frustrating. Because of this experience, I will never return to Buc-ee's again, not even in my personal vehicle. I'd much rather spend my money at a truck stop or any business that welcomes everyone and appreciates the people who help keep America moving. read more

In my opinion the only things nice about this place are the restrooms. That's it. Have had better coffee from bona fide Texas truck stops. The first time there was - interesting. But each time after that it was just sad. The grands lived up in NE Texas so of course we were required to stop for the kids if they were in the truck. The last sandwich I had was a soggy mess on what looked like bread but tasted like cotton balls. Those nuggets reminded me a lot like Crunch n Munch but with a horrible aftertaste even their weak "coffee" couldn't wash away. It's been years since we've been back so I don't know if it's still true but it seemed to me those times that the greater portion of their branded merchandise and other "Texas" souvenirs were made in China. This one in Madisonville is very consistent with the brand, from the large covered gas pump areas, the huge inside shopping area with jerky and fudge and "fresh brisket on the board!" and of course, the cleanest restrooms. At 5:00 pm on a weeknight, it was quite busy. Mrs. K. is now addicted to the Beaver Nuggets that are drizzled with caramel. Light crunchy corn pops with sugar, it's easy to zip through a bag if you're not careful! We picked up our fridge magnet as well and were on the way after about 20 minutes. The bathrooms are always clean and there are so many that I've never had to wait. This is good for a women's bathroom. The food options are also great. The ambiance and service are excellent. I get severe anxiety in big, crowded places. And that's what this was. It was big, crowded, and full of tchotchkes I didn't want, need or love. I bought a sandwich and some water and got out of there. I will never return. In fairness to them, the place was surprisingly clean, well organized, seemed well managed. If you are in TX on a road trip, Buc-ee's is the place to be even if you don't need gas. Their restrooms are like mall parking where they have red light, green light directing guests to occupied versus vacant stalls. Their massive restroom was well kept with no broken stalls and it was clean even though it was pretty busy. Their massive selection of jerkies will have you stand there contemplating what to get (you can ask for samples). The hot food area always have a line (which this location did as well). And don't forget to grab their famous candied pecans that are sweet and crunchy and the beaver nuggets (these are strategically placed near the cash register). Staff here worked quickly were friendly. Some gas pumps were occupied by people who were not pumping gas so pay attention to see if someone is inside the car before you line up for gas. Initially, I thought there was only one Buc ee's between Houston and Dallas, but this is the first of two--the other is located in Ennis. But if you happen to be taking a road trip to Fort Worth (as I was), and you take the 287 exit, you can go to the Buc ee's in Fort Worth but will miss Ennis. Anyways, Madisonville is a good first stop coming out of Houston. However, it can get really crowded in this location--the most crowded Buc ee's I've ever experienced. I still think of the Baytown and Texas City Buc ee's locations as my favorites, and I would rate both a 5. This Buc ee's is just a 4, in my opinion. If I'm hungry and stopping at a Buc ee's, sometimes I'll grab a chopped brisket sandwich. I remember when these only cost $5-6. These days, it's basically an $8 sandwich. The one I got had way too much gelatinous fat in it (I do like the tiny amount of fat between the bark and brisket when sliced). This makes me rethink getting it. Granted, most BBQ places charge over $12 for chopped brisket anything these days. But I probably won't be as quick to grab one next time. I also think this Buc ee's should have been designed differently, but that's just me. I think the sections lacked prominent signage. The restrooms are placed towards the end of one's walk across the store. I thought the restrooms could have been cleaner, but there was no visible attendant as I've seen at other Buc ee's locations. The employees do an amazing job of getting the customers in/out in a timely manner. Restrooms are extremely clean. I really need to try the food but I haven't been hungry when I stopped. This place is massive! Despite its size with nearly a hundred gas pumps or more and just as many bathrooms, this place is regularly packed with people. The good news is that the staff are amazing at serving customers and keeping the place clean and well stocked. I would always choose to go to a Buc-ee's over a smaller gas station because I can always count on the cleanliness of the facility. In addition, there is some delicious roadtrip snacks and food to indulge in. The wall of jerky is huge, but head to the back counter to get it freshly wrapped and sample some of the flavors they offer. Reserve time and stretch your legs while you browse through the merchandise they offer. If you forgot to pack something on your vacation, you can buy it here...bathing suits, beach towels, shirts, electronic accessories, BBQ grill, hammock, gifts, etc. They've thought of everything. I LOVE Buc-ee's!!! Cleanest bathrooms ever and such a great place to stop on road trips. They have fair prices on the snacks and drinks which is comparable to local grocery store prices. Their customer service is always great here, too! Overall, it's always a pleasure stopping here on our trips from Houston to Dallas. However, there's one massive issue that I really need for Buc-ee's to fix: vegetarian options!!!! They have a few counters dedicated to serving hot food and among them, they only have ONE vegetarian option total - a veggie burrito. They used to have a grilled cheese sandwich but that has recently disappeared. This is both disappointing and frustrating because we have to make an additional stop to find a vegetarian meal for both me and my husband as we're not a fan of this burrito here. Can't believe that this is my first visit to Buc-ee's! We were traveling on I-45 and had to stop by to get gas. I was almost fascinated by how large and B U S Y it was!!! The bathrooms were busy, but I love how they have Texas-themed artwork on the walls and at the entrance. Additionally, there was seat sanitizer and hand sanitizer available in each stall!! I wish every bathroom had those. This was the highlight of my buc-ee's trip. I managed to take a small tour of the immediate area near the bathrooms. There were so many coffee options! If it weren't so late, i definitely would have tried it. They just had everything in abundance (go figure, since it's Texas...) including meats, drinks, snacks, etc. I think my pictures pretty much speak for themselves! And for me that was a good thing. They seemed to have all the same stuff but squeezed into a smaller stores. My wife bought multiple types of jerky to determine which she liked best, and she loved her chopped brisket sandwich. But her favorite were the fresh beaver chips. After my disastrous encounter with the one in Luling, I thought, one more try. THE last try. There is no way it can have metastasized to my favorite location...Madisonville. Sadly, on a mid Friday afternoon...bedlam. It took about 5 minutes just to get off the service road and into the seventh circle of, well... you know where. Once in I made the round of pumps that were mostly taken by no one pumping gas. They had abandoned their vehicles at the pump to go shopping instead of letting others obtain fuel and finding a parking spot. Novel concept. Traffic in the lot is like playing bumper cars with people that have no idea what a car is, or how a brain works, or know what planet they are on. After a few more minutes and lovely out-of-staters cutting me off to get a pump, I limped up to Centerville and got gas at their local bbq joint. Ate lunch. And got gas. And was in and out in less than 10 minutes. With a brisket sandwich. And no rage. No out-of-staters. Smile. I wish I didn't have to post yet another sad entry into the book of Bucc-ee's...it used to be an icon...now it is just an institution. And not in a good way. My fav buc-ee's!! lol why?! Because it was my first Bucees ever!! I've been coming for so many years , and I still come to it, so many memories, when you have family in Houston, this is the stop from Dallas lol! Still gets super packed , but lines move fast! They have expanded the restrooms , this was done a few years ago. Also pups love this place! So many pet relief areas! And I love that there's so many responsible pet owners picking up after their pets. I remember when this Buc-ee's was the MUST-STOP spot between my frequent drives between Dallas and Houston. The unique finds, the clean bathrooms, and the incredibly convenient number of gas pumps made it a really easy, and quick, place to meet your essential road trip needs. Over the years, this particular location has become overcrowded, and full of inconsiderate people who will literally park their cars at the gas pumps. This practice is unregulated by Buc-ee's staff, as they are clearly understaffed during peak hours, and unable to enforce normal etiquette around gas pumps. The overcrowded feel of the inside of Buc-ee's makes it feel like a less and less "essential" stop, and I find myself excited to discover a different large stopover between drives so as to avoid the rush and bustle of this Buc-ee's. read more
