I was out downtown Cleveland last night and stopped into Gillespie's Map Room for the first time. It was exactly what I expected--in the best way. It truly feels like a neighborhood bar. The Irish flags, the Cleveland memorabilia on the walls, and the overall atmosphere make it warm, familiar, and welcoming. Not sure if they are known for their pizza but they should! I'd have to say one of the best pizzas I think I have had. Just look at it. If that doesn't scream this is going to be great, I don't know what will. Pretty busy with football on tv but was able to find a place at the bar. OLD RELIABLE! Yes it's true. Everybody knows the map room sets the standard for dive bar +. It's not really a dive so that's why the +. But it is. Ya know?? Browns home game tradition. Staple of w. 9th. Where is it? Across from Constantino's. Where to park. Right in front. Most of the time IT's FREE. LOL. Sara is the greatest. Wonderful pizzas and hot dogs. I had a great buff chicken salad there too. So fresh. When I was on jury I scoped it out for our going away lunch. No problem. Always open for lunch dinner you name it. Lots of places you'd better check first. It's such an iconic joint one of my jurist gave me the "a good choice" award. Cool stuff hanging up everywhere. Get there. Stopped in for late night drinks with friends and sat at the bar. Our bartender was super polite, always smiling, and quick to get our drinks together. She had good report with the guests, even asking our friends about the baby they're expecting. The decor in the bar is an interesting mix of Scottish bagpipes, wood tones, Italian flags, beer and sports memorabilia. read more

From my experience you can almost always count on Map Room to be lively on the weekends. Lots of TVs, good place to watch a game. The pizza is solid, and they serve it fairly late. Lots of beers on tap. Service is reliable. Crowd can trend 20s, but you won't feel out of place if you're older. Solid downtown option. read more

I tried this place because it was part of the American Airlines rewards program. It looked good online, and I was planning on spending the afternoon there watching football. Had 1 beer and left. There was only one server in the front of the house. Very slow to even recognize she had someone new. I wasn't crazy about any of the drafts available. But the real issue was that I was (eventually) served a draft beer in a plastic cup. That's a hard deal breaker. This isn't a college bar, and I'm not 21 years old. I get that sometimes when the bar has extreme volume, like on game days, it's necessary. It was a cold winter Saturday. No excuse for that. I was reaching for my credit card before the cup even hit the bar. I'm 60 years old. I don't want to be served in a plastic cup like I'm at a frat party. To add insult to injury, on the way out I saw that other people had draft beer in proper glasses. I'll never go back to this place again. read more

Im from out of town and I went here at 10pm on Friday to grab a pizza and a beer. This place was packed and I couldn't believe I didn't know it was the busiest bar downtown. I found a spot at the bar to order the pizza and I waited for about 45 min for said pizza. I walked back to my hotel room with the pizza and I'll tell you what, this pizza is one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Hands down top 3. I am blown away. read more

So this is definitely good for an after work happy hour. They have all the usual beverages drinkers usually want, I just wish their tequila selection was a little better. I honestly would have given another star because the food can be really good. My issue is trying to place a to go order. EVERYTIME I order I ask for crispy fries and I ALWAYS get soggy fries! This is really a pain when you don't have time to wait for a new order. So only 3 stars for wasting my time and leaving me hungry. The Cavs playoff game kept the crowd energized. The crowd was young and fun. Two large pizzas and multiple rounds of beer for five people was about $100. That is a pretty good value. Fair notice, it's a bar with some really good food so don't look for a way to seat more than maybe 4 to 6 people. That said, once we figured out that no one was coming to take a food order‐no clear instructions on that-we had some really great food. One person got a pizza while two others got one of the hot sandwiches. Mine, the chicken teriyaki, was loaded with ingredients and was perfect. Good bread, great sauce, and plenty of sandwich. Everything looked really good and no one left anthing but crumbs on the plates. Fair prices and good food. Nothing fancy but it was well worth the walk of a few blocks to find it. read more

She was incredible-from the history of the spot, all the way down to the recommendations of local establishments. Stopped here around 7:00 after an event at the nearby convention center. Was greeted at the door and welcomed in. I sat at the bar and ordered what the bartender recommended - a beer on tap and a stromboli. Food and drink was excellent! Large portion for a great price. After sitting for awhile and never being acknowledged, I went to the bar to ask for a drink and learned I needed to order at the bar. This would not have been a problem at all if there would have been acknowledgement and instruction. Having had this experience, I initially laid a smaller tip on the counter for the drinks. I then watched the bartender gripe to someone seated at that bar about the size or the tip and throw the money in a pissed off way into his bucket. The food came out and the bartender brought it over to us. He acted a bit more attentive and as I left, I left more money on the counter. Very poor service. Severs are rude, unhelpful and unprofessional. I had secured a table and even had food and beverage delivered to it. Yet, the table was taken from me and someone stole my food and drink. I told the sever about this and they offered no help.
