From the moment we walked through the door, Dan and Melanie made us feel like welcomed guests instead of customers. We were greeted immediately and escorted upstairs to a beautiful tasting room where we spent nearly two hours enjoying an unforgettable experience. Dan is one of the most knowledgeable and passionate business owners I've ever met. He walked us through not only each DKM wine and handcrafted chocolate pairing, but also the fascinating story behind how the business came to be and the meticulous process that goes into making every product. His professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine love for his craft were evident in every minute of the experience. And the products? Absolutely phenomenal. I can honestly say every single wine and every single chocolate was outstanding. The Moscato, sparkling wines, and red wines were all incredible. The chocolate pairings elevated everything even further. The turtles, brittle, chocolate-covered raisins, chocolate-covered strawberries... every bite was memorable. It was one of those rare experiences where you keep waiting for something to be "just okay," but it never happens because everything is exceptional. The factory itself is spotless, beautifully designed, and it's amazing being able to look through the windows and watch the production area where everything is made. The retail shop is equally impressive, filled with beautifully packaged chocolates, wines, gifts, and treats. We told ourselves we weren't going to buy much... that lasted about five minutes. There was simply no way we were leaving empty-handed. What impressed me most was the precision and care that Dan and Melanie have poured into every aspect of their business. From the presentation, to the storytelling, to the products themselves, every detail has been thoughtfully crafted. It's rare to find a place where the customer service is just as exceptional as the products, but Hill Country Chocolate absolutely delivers on both. I'd definitely come back because the quality of the gelato was excellent. The only area that could use some improvement was the customer service flow. When we walked in, there was one employee working, a customer with three young children who was taking quite a while deciding on flavors, and another customer who appeared to be waiting to pay. I don't know how long he had already been waiting, but by the time he finally paid, he had nearly finished eating his gelato. While the family was still deciding, the customer herself kindly told us to go ahead and place our order so she wouldn't keep holding us up. We appreciated that gesture and stepped up to order. I ordered chocolate and stracciatella. When I asked for chocolate, the employee asked if I was sure and whether I'd had it before. She did offer me a sample, which was thoughtful, but it caught me off guard since I wasn't expecting to have to justify my flavor choice. I also asked if they had cones, and she said they didn't. She then asked what size cup I wanted. I replied that I'd like one scoop of each flavor, not realizing the scoop count and cup size were separate choices. It took a couple of exchanges before I understood what she meant. A little more explanation upfront would have made the ordering process much smoother. After our gelato was prepared, I expected we'd be able to pay and move on. Instead, the employee immediately went back to helping the family continue sampling and deciding on flavors before ringing us up. By the time we were finally able to pay, my husband had almost finished eating his gelato. The employee was genuinely friendly and patient, especially with the family, and I understand it's not easy managing everything alone. I just think some additional training on balancing multiple customers--such as quickly checking out customers whose orders are already complete before returning to someone who is still deciding--would make the experience much smoother for everyone. Overall, the gelato was delicious, the shop was clean, and I'd happily come back. I just hope the service flow improves because the product itself is definitely worth the visit.

I must say that their prices will get your attention but their chocolates are of superior quality. We bought a few items that fit in a super small plastic bag and it set us back about $70. Overall, this is a great place to buy somebody special (a chocolate lover-lover or friend) to let them know how much you care. Walking in, we were immediately greeted and self-identified as first-time visitors. We were given a quick tour of the place, where they made their chocolate by hand and their current selections of chocolate bars, toffee barks, and truffles. I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to try the different intensities of chocolate bits they had available as samples. Ranging from 50% to 100%, my personal favorite was the 90%. We ended up getting 2 mint truffles, 2 coffee truffles, and a small bag of toffee bark for $16 + tax. They don't taste too bad with a glass of wine we had later that day, though they weren't our favorite chocolates. Overall, this chocolate factory is still worth a stop in to check out the chocolate making process, by which they still use direct-sourced cocao beans from Ecuador.
