a picnic table outside
Katie B.

Not much around these parts, so when a sign for ICE COLD BEER beckons you after a hike at Pedernales Falls, just like the dude, you abide. A simple little trailer boasting both the American and Texan flags on the outside, and on the inside, all the little snacks, drinks, and bottled/canned beer one on the outskirts of Austin could ask for. The beer wasn't the coldest, sadly, but there was a great variety. The gent working the convenience store was a little distracted (on the phone with some customer service agent), but he made up for it by sending us off with a complimentary bottle of water and turning up the music for us while we enjoyed our beer and peanuts out on the picnic tables under the sun! My Dodge Ram rental completed the Texas moment.

Closed when we showed up at 4 pm. Shame. I wanted a hot dog. Looked like a nice place from the outside.

Stunning experience…read more This place has to be some of the best food my wife and I have EVER had. We came here to celebrate our anniversary recently after a close friend recommended it. Normally when I hear Italian I think of American Italian - heavy, one note, and leaves you feeling terrible after. Trattoria Lisina was none of those things. First, the location is beautiful. The entire restaurant is surrounded by Texas hill country beauty. The restaurant balances class and cozy in a way hard to explain. The wait staff is excellent and knowledgeable on the menu. Even the small details like their uniforms were excellent. The food is hard to describe. My wife spent an hour post dinner discussing how incredible it was. Every dish we tried was perfection. The fried elements were crisp. The raw elements melted in your mouth like butter. The entrees were executed in a way I've never had pasta! We will absolutely make this our "special place" for life occasions moving forward.

We didn't have reservations but were easily seated. Based on other reviews it seems that might be a hit or miss experience. I'd probably make a reservation to be safe next time. The food really is just like Mandola's though I think I prefer Mandola's because it is more casual and the foot matches that vibe. I had a peach Bellini and it was ok, not as much peach as I expected. I then ordered a Sangria and it was very good. We had the artichoke fritters as an appetizer and they were really good, especially with the aioli. We had the bolognese with a side meatball. Very good but nothing mind blowing and gnocchi which was the real winner. It was creamy and full of flavor. The bread was good, solid focaccia. I also had a birthday gelato but was too full to eat much of it so they sent me home with a fresh order of it. My bolognese warmed up nicely for lunch the next day too. I actually thought it was better. Overall, a lovely evening. The ambiance is beautiful of course. We were confused by paper placemats and no linens for such a nice restaurant. The interior dining room was kept empty with them using only the dining room with a view. That was interesting. The menu overall seemed a bit limited but we enjoyed our food.

I happened to run across the bad reviews of this store while double checking what time they open in…read morethe morning, I've never needed to go this early before, and WOW!!! I feel like it can't be I use the same store as those that have such bad ratings. I'm a fan of this store. Ive always had polite customer service, they have a great range of product, and the prices, although they are a bit higher I think from last year, aren't bad at all. Considering they are the only place around for miles I think they could get away robbing people blind, but they don't. I only stopped at 4 stars from five because they aren't perfect, but when I had something that bothered me I told them about and they address if they can, and hadn't when they couldn't, but I know they truly listen to all my request for certain products or cleaned up what I thought needed cleaning ...ect... I'm big on banning a store and driving out of my way to not use store I think provides crappy customer service. Thank goodness for me, this Texaco, which is the closest place to me, I've always have had a pleasant experience at. To respond to the bad yelps I saw, I think that 3 of the 4 guys that have been there a while, years even, I think are always very nice and helpful. They even ask how my family is at times if they hadn't seen one of us in a few days. We go there 4-5 times a week between the 4 of us. I don't know the newer guy, it get a weird vibe but I just don't know him. On the bathroom out of order thing, I've only seen it out I think twice in 5 years. I admit I've only needed it maybe 8 times in like 5 years, but I've seen people ask where they are and get politely told where there are, dozens of times, leading me to believe that means they were in working order. I have no stake in this store, no personal or business connection to it. I just know that people tend to only talk about the bad experiences, I'm guilt of doing it too, but I try to add the good stuff sometimes too, especially for a place I frequent, and have always been treated well at. This is my way to return a favor for the years of good to great customer experience I've received.

This is a glorified Chevron gas station!…read more Outside of Austin, headed back to Dallas on the back roads I pulled into what I thought was just a Chevron gas station. The station was larger than normal, but walking inside, it blew me away. *It's huge inside, with so many great little additions! From the out side this place looks like just a large Chevron gas station from the out side. When you walk in, it is easy to be blown away thinking it's just a gas station. Holy cow! I stopped here on my way back from the Austin area heading back to Dallas going back up the back roads. From the outside it is clearly marked as a Chevron gas station. When I walked in, I was blown away by all of the extra features that was inside this gas station. Later I found out it is marked on the receipt as a grocery store rather than a gas station. From the outside it clearly marked as a Chevron gas station and you would never know it's so much more. Now mind you, when I first walked in, I had the impression that this was a unreported Chevron gas station. I was blown away seeing a decent little produce area for a gas station! Then as I turned the corner, there was a cold meat bin, and time after time so many other areas that blew me away. They had a wine area, hot food area, several benches to sit and enjoy your food, hot peanuts, it just kept going on and on! The prices are marked a little higher than normal, but it is 'supply & demand' here. Highway 35 can sometimes be a nightmare with construction and the rude drivers. So driving back on the back roads are even faster! Wow! I was really blown away by this place and it deceivers 5 stars, but the lady behind the register had the worst attitude, was very snippy, it may have been just a bad day. Now I hardly ever talk negative about anyone, but upper management should recognize when employees that interact with customers, they need to step it up! After leaving, I found out why they charge more, heck they are right near the river where folks are on the river boating, fishing or just out on the water. **From the layout, products they carry, the cleanness of the store, location I want to give them 5 stars, but due to high prices and poor customer relations I would mark them a 3 or 4 stars. I look forward to seeing them work on the customer relationship and service.

I asked for two dipping sauces and was charged 89¢, which explained why a simple order of a fountain drink and six nuggets cost more than expected. I remember when this place used to be much better. Unfortunately, the overall experience has gone downhill, from the food quality to the service. Just not what it used to be.
