Stopped to get a fountain drink, they were out of almost everything, including diet Dr Pepper. Got a Diet Coke and had to add real Coke to make it taste palatable. While drinking the soda, there was something hard in it and I was getting little hard pieces of something in my mouth and it was not ice. I poured it out and in the bottom was calcium water deposits that had broken off from the fountain drink and into my cup. The bathroom smelled so bad I could smell the urine before I even open the door. The urinals were coated with dried yellow urine crystals along with urine yellow stains all over the floors and deposits all around the urinals and on the floor. The store was dirty it looks like it has not been cleaned in a while. I was telling the story to my daughter's boyfriend and he said that anytime he's in Johnson City he doesn't stop there because he knows how gross that store is. He even said the bathroom smelled like urine didn't they? Do not stop here if you have to go to the bathroom find another place. If you would like a soda, make sure you buy it from the cooler and the cap is intact. Disinfect the bottle before you drink out of it. read more

I hate to admit it but I'm one of the biggest fans of Laredo Taco Company. Anytime there's a stripes close by I'll make sure and make sure I grab one of their barbacoa plates to go. Taco shells are always so thick and soft at the same time. The meat is always so freshly cooked perfectly seasoned and moist and tender. The onions and peppers are firm and moist at the same time and always perfectly cooked as well. The staff is very hard-working and helpful and it just kind of has a small town gas station feel when everybody can come in and get quality food. It's surprising how much food they can put out of such a small kitchen in the corner of a gas station but it just tells you the power of American ingenuity. These places are 10 times better than regular fast food joints and the employees always seem very hard working and happy to see you. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu and they will never disappoint! read more

I usually stop here to get gas when traveling between DFW and home in the Hill Country. The gas is always at an extremely low price point - and the windshield cleaners have an extra long handle so you can wipe across your windshield in one stroke - makes for less streaking and that awkward stain in the middle of your windshield. However - the cleanliness in this place has gone downhill big time over the last few months and the COVID precautions here are not enforced. Thanks, truckers from all over who knows where for not wearing your masks and getting all up on people in line to pay. Thanks, Stripes employees, for not enforcing Texas policy. This place is a necessary evil for gas and a clean windshield, but useless otherwise. I also see that some people on here give it a low rating because their Mexican food is subpar. The very visible dried fat and cheese in the food should be your clue as should the fact that you are buying Mexican cafeteria style food in a dirty gas station. After eating Mexican food from a Stripes - you probably will be in a position to rate a lot of gas station bathrooms along the rest of your drive. read more

Convenient store food? Ewwwww...Laredo Taco Company inside Stripes? DELICIOUS! I'm an avid Mexican food lover, and this was some of the best I've eaten. Fajitas were absolutely delicious. The beans - best I've ever eaten anywhere (except my husband's). To top it all off, the prices are super affordable! It's not just a place to stop at from time to time. Anytime we drive this route to San Antonio or the Guadalupe River, it is a Tradition to stop and eat here. Yes, it's THAT good! Try it once and you'll be a super fan! read more

I have tried multiple times to give this business my money, and today was the final straw. I'm sorry I don't have 15 minutes for you to make me a dried up egg taco. Yes, I was once served a taco with eggs scraped from the side of the pan, and I waited 10 minutes for it. How stupid am I for going back?Do you look for the absolutely slowest people you can find? Stopped by to get a bag of ice and see if they had any wood for sale. The clerk seemed more interested in catching up on the latest small town gossip then helping the next customer. But I still waited. After miss Johnson City News makes her way to her car I step up to the counter. The then answers not one but 2 separate calls all why I am still standing there. I just walk out. I don't live in Johnson City but I do spend a lot of time at the State Park and have used you on previous occasions but never again. read more

Like most Stripes, this one is clean and you are greeted upon entering. I ordered breakfast from the grill and got a cup of coffee, and everything was up to par. I was disappointed that they were out of fresh French Roast coffee, so I had to settle for house blend. Other than that, no complaints read more

I hate it that you don't have to wear a mask when shopping there. Employees and customers. I asked why and the young lady working there said that the owners didn't want to lose business by enforcing the mask mandate. We stopped to get coffee and tacos. Just passing through. The restrooms needed some attention. The tacos were awful. Tortillas tasted days old. The eggs were dry. No flavor at all. The cashier couldn't even break a smile to say god morning. She looked like she was sleep walking. I should have taken the tacos back but we were already on the road. Wow, it's as close to Buc-ee's as you'll ever get in Blanco County. Super clean store with tons of food and drink options at all hours of the day and night. They have tacos available during "normal" hours, but they usually keep some pre-fried stuff available for late night munchies. Factor in a serve-yourself fruit bar and a salsa bar for the tacos and you have the best 24 hour food option in Johnson City. (Admittedly, that may set the bar low.) I also appreciate the availability of iced tea 24/7 with lemons and limes. Next time, I may be adventurous and try the self-serve milkshakes. And the best part.... they've started a gas price war in Johnson City! read more

ATTN CYCLISTS: COME HERE! Every time I ride to JC from Austin I stop by Stripes for re-fueling/re-hydrating. The place has a great selection of drinks and packaged foods, but what sets them apart is their hot food and FRUIT SALAD BAR! Hungry, strapped for cash and sick of the typical cycling food? Why don't you carb up with a giant bag of Stripes' delicious fries for only $1! Seriously these are some of the best fries I've ever had. Would you rather have some real fruit rather than the fake, syrupy crap in sports drinks? Then head to the fruit salad bar and fill up a cup with all the delicious, juicy fruit that your heart desires, also for ridiculously cheap. Everyone here is super friendly, they have ample seating, a sink for filling up bottles and their bathroom is clean. Yep, Stripes nails it as far convenience stores go. Its a quick stop and that's all I can say. They have tacos but nothing to talk much about they have fresh well they have fruit as well, not to bad but seen better. Got my first bad half gallon of milk here and turn my stomach but the clerk change it out after a 20 min. drive back in town. Also place gets rather hectic with people at times as well. But the coffee is horrible, I mean liquid heart burn nevertheless they are a gas station not coffee shop and with that said they have good gas at fair price. read more

Quite disturbing! Stopped by for a drink and a couple of chicken fajitas on my way to Stonewall. After eating just one of the fajitas, I got sick. I am easy going and understand things happen. On my way back I thought I'd stop by for a large drink ( no food). I was shocked as I was standing in line and watching a worker walking on the food counter with dirty tennis shoes! He was wiping the things hanging down from the ceiling. He walked where they prepare the food and serve the food! Before I left, he got down and never cleaned or sterilized the counter. The guy at the grill turned around and served a customer! Now I understand why I got sick! Poor management when it comes to food service cleanliness! read more
