We enjoyed our weekend at Gilded. We stayed in the Lark Suite on the 3rd floor. Our room had a sitting area and a separate bedroom. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. We loved the colors in the room and the wide plank floors. There were 2 tv's, a couch, a chair, and a thermostat that could be changed to your liking. Our room had a small electric fireplace that we didn't use because of the warm weather. We loved the "small plate" breakfast. We ate there 2 days and each day the menu was different and delicious. I gave the hotel a 4 star because the water pressure in the shower was a bit weak in the morning. That was our only complaint. Everything else was a great. Would definitely stay at the Gilded next time and would recommend to a friend.

Broken floor in the room, several inches deep and major splinter risk. There were several of these in the room

We stayed here over Memorial Day weekend and the hotel was clean, but the maintenance was poor, the rooms were small and the guest service had some major gaps. When we got access to the room, the maid was still in the room so we waited 30+ mins before following up with the hotel staff after they said they'd let us know when it was ready again. Turns out it was ready for awhile, but we weren't told. We also didn't get a welcome packet which had critical information such as a door code that's necessary to access your room after hours - you can imagine how critical this was when we came back to the hotel around 11:30 and couldn't get in the room. At that time we called the 24-hour line several times and there was no answer and no return call for around an hour. The AC in the room didn't work (which they did quickly address), but there were some large gaps in the wood foor in the room that were so severe they could be a safety hazard (see pics). They also don't man the front desk and aren't eager to help people once they're notified someone is at the front desk waiting. They do have a text line to field guest inquiries, but it's for a limited time of the day and the number they provide to text is also incorrect. The hotel itself isn't well maintained, the grounds are littered with trash and old debris from past projects the hotel has done. The room also did not have a closet, hairdryer nor iron/steamer - which is pretty standard for hotels. After all of this, they over-billed for the stay. We booked direct and have the booking confirmation with the should-have been price. Overall very disappointing and not to the standard of other Lark properties.

Main "lobby" room was so fun to take pics in!

Our stay at Gilded was truly a highlight of our trip! The building is beautiful, quirky, and so much fun. The room was perfect with comfy beds, plush pillows, and great decor. And let me tell you about the breakfast spread-incredible!! Super delicious, gourmet, and tons of variety each day. I never care about eating at hotels, but I couldn't wait each morning to see what they were going to put out and it was all so tasty. The staff was friendly, engaging, and made us feel at home. Location-wise, you can't go wrong with Gilded. It was on a quiet street with ample parking and an easy walk to Bellevue Ave restaurants or even down to the Wharf! It was less than a mile and a nice walk. I truly loved our stay here and highly recommend for your next stay in Newport!

My husband and I booked a stay at the Gilded for our 5th Wedding Anniversary and stayed there from May 17-19th. We booked our stay through Expedia, just to have the extra protections if anything went wrong or if anything happened. Gilded was completely sold out while we were there anyway, so even if we had booked directly with them, we wouldn't have been able to get a Lark club upgrade. We booked a King Deluxe room, and stayed in Room 202. The room was pretty large and spacious, but my husband and I were just not a fan of the bed. It was a bit too soft for us, and so neither of us slept great during our stay. We also weren't expecting it to be so darn bright at 5:30 AM, but it was like it was already 10 in the morning with how much light our room got early in the morning. The next morning, we were sure to close some of the shades to help us sleep in some more. The breakfast was phenomenal, and the staff was great at pointing us to what was vegetarian so we knew we could eat it. She also modified a few of the dishes for us without meat and they were great. The breakfast here is a real highlight of this place, and would be a reason to come back. Another reason to come back? The service. The service was phenomenal, and they were incredibly helpful. We were concerned the a/c wasn't working when we arrived late in the evening, but the room cooled down eventually and it was fine. They were also kind enough to provide us with a boxed fan which helped cool down the room immensely over the second night of our stay. One area we weren't a big fan of was the darn bathroom. The bathroom was a bit small to maneuver, and it was near impossible for me and my husband to be in there at the same time. The bathroom was also pretty slanted, which I didn't notice, but apparently really bothered my husband. Also, when making the reservation, the staff told me to put notes in the reservation of anything we wanted to acknowledge, and I put that we were vegetarians (for breakfast) and that we were coming in for our anniversary. That wasn't something acknowledged at all, even with the treat left in our room - although it was something that I put in our reservation notes. If you're arriving late, they'll give you a code to get into the hotel and then tell you where your key will be. I will say, when my husband and I arrived, it was definitely a very interesting experience. My husband kept commenting that it felt kind of like a ghost house, but that was just part of Gilded's Victorian charm.

We had such a wonderful stay at Gilded, a quirky, colorfully, but tastefully Converted old house. It had been on my list for awhile now and while I was saving for a trip with my little girls because knew they would just love the colors and fun details, I stayed recently with my husband on a romantic getaway. It could easily be for but Hans even him, a kind of macho guy kept saying how cool and funky it was! The beds were great, pillows were perfect, and the shower was awesome. The bath products were some of my favorite and the details like iPods, bottles of water, in room coffee were a nice touch. It's a lovely stay in town close to everything but still far enough away from everything we're were able to enjoy peace and quiet and most importantly, complementary off-street parking! My husband checked us in and I didn't see anyone the entire time until I went to grab a coffee-upon leaving, and that was a staff member behind the desk so I definitely felt very safe during covid. Our room actually had a separate staircase which I'm assuming was once for help. While breakfast is included they have turned to paper bag brunch to-go or to enjoy in bed instead. It included fruit & yogurt parfaits, locally made three cheese flatbread, cinnamon buns, and OJ. Nice way to adapt. All and all a truly perfect stay...from Comfort to location to aesthetic. I will absolutely 100 percent stay here again and very much look forward to it!

What a great staycation! Thank you Gilded, Lark Properties, and our new found favorite front desk manager Alton!! Great room, great pool table, impeccably clean, and one of the best breakfasts we have had at a hotel!! From minute one the great smile and welcome as soon as we walked in set the tone for perfect stay. Thank you so much for a great 50th bday celebration. We will be back. If you are looking for an intimate, quiet and relaxing stay go here. Really...go now.

My husband and I recently stayed here for our babymoon. The service was phenomenal! The breakfast was absolutely delish! We loved seeing all the new things every morning and the cookies were delish as well! We had a really great time in Newport and we plan on coming back soon! The Gilded is a quaint place with a huge heart and lots of charm! Everyone is so friendly and helpful! I'm a huge fan of chia pudding and overnight oats, while my husband prefers the savory dishes. Being pregnant, I don't eat any bacon/sausage/ham etc or mayonnaise so I was so happy there were plenty of choices for both of our palates and it was all absolutely delicious!!!! You could tell the chef really enjoys cooking! The parking lot is smaller, but we always got a spot. They even provide chairs and towels for the beach everyday if you want them, which were awesome!

Breakfast selections in the morning were plentiful, but didn't taste nearly as great as they looked

I had the pleasure of staying here for a weekend in June while attending a friend's wedding. Gilded is a newly opened boutique hotel that in some ways resembles a large bed & breakfast. From what I have read, it was formerly a hotel/bed & breakfast and has undergone a recent renovation transforming it into its current playful and abundantly colorful state. It's a huge departure from the stodgy Brahmin Newport that people generally envision. Located a bit off the craziness of Newport's main drag, Gilded is still under a 15 minute walk to the harbor and located right near some of the other grand hotels. On arrival, Gilded has an advantage of plentiful off-street and convenient on-street parking. Check-in was smooth, friendly, and professional, and we were given an iPad to use which came preloaded with suggestions for nearby attractions. Our room was a second floor "suite" with a king bed and small sitting area. They've tried to utilize the existing house in interesting ways, so there are a few oddities like the lack of closet but instead a clothes-hanging bar jutting out from a corner of the room, and steps leading to a bathroom that likely used to be a closet. Based on the pictures, all the rooms are unique and have their own architectural touches and flourishes, but in any event our room was well-appointed, quiet, and comfortable. The rest of the grounds include a pool table, an inside walkway with tables for eating, a beautiful outdoor courtyard with tables perfect for enjoying breakfast, and a large front room with couches. Breakfast was served every morning in the main check-in/kitchen area, which also comes with a fridge for guests to place leftovers. While overall it was a very pleasant stay, a few things weren't the best - the food was beautifully presented, with cute little jars and bottles for fruit, absolutely gorgeous looking baked goods and other cereals. But while the appearance was perfect, the taste left something to be desired. Much of the food wasn't particularly good, and while filling enough we were rarely interested in having more of anything. The other issue was with ants in our room and bathroom. They were mostly a problem in the bathroom, but we found a bunch in the bedroom as well. Overall this is a great place to stay in Newport and a place I'd be interested in visiting again. It's so nice to see a place that doesn't feel stodgy and old. Gilded really crushes it from a decor standpoint, and hopefully the other things will improve in time.

Firstly, we were two of their inaugural guests so we arrived with an open mind. Emily, the manager, was very helpful on the phone and open to answering any questions we had. Upon entering this whimsical and well designed B&B we were very impressed with all the details and design elements. Our check in was easy breezy. While we were only staying one night, they upgraded us to a King Deluxe suite, which was a terrific surprise. We were handed an iPad, along with our room keys and info card, which was pre-loaded with area information, suggestions and things to do. The room was heavenly, great design, cool furniture and the bed was so deliciously comfortable. The bathroom was stocked with great amenities like shampoo, soap, etc... from a company called Lather. We parked the car and left it. Gilded is located in the middle of everything, so we were able to walk to just about everything we wanted to go to. Lots of great places to eat, grab food, shops and whatnot were easily accessible from this location. We slept really well, and loved the small plate sumptuous and delicious breakfast that was served the next morning. We had fun hanging out at Gilded, played pool chilled, read and could have easily spent a few more days there. What I love about the place is that they kept the old bones of its predecessor, while offering a modern, hip updated vibe. The images on the site don't do this place justice. Clearly great design is at the forefront of the proprietors efforts, and their hotel management and staff were all awesome and lovely.

What a lovely hotel! The Decor is absolutely amazing! This hotel stands out on the service side. The staff at check-in was wonderfully friendly which was a welcome surprise from my days at the Hilton for business travel. As we were leaving the front desk after checking in , the front desk staff told us that some warm chocolate chip cookies that they were cooking should be ready in a few minutes - and when we said that we had to leave she said that she would have some brought up to our room which she did with two glasses of milk! A great service experience! The room was very comfortable and nicely appointed the location is central to most of Newport and is very convenient! They give you purple iPads that are preloaded with all the areas dining and tourist spots which was a very nice convenience! The breakfast was amazing as well as you can see from the pictures that I uploaded it was a very unique and delicious dining experience! Overall we would highly recommend staying here! Wonderful staff and a great hotel experience!

Based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews and how beautiful the property looked online, we were genuinely excited to spend a couple of nights here. Unfortunately, for nearly $1,000 per night, the experience fell well short of expectations. At check-in, the concierge seemed completely uninterested. There was no welcome, no overview of the hotel, and no helpful information offered- it genuinely felt like we were inconveniencing her just by being there. We've stayed at other hotels in a similar price range, where the service is consistently warm, attentive, and polished, so this was especially disappointing. The valet was far more welcoming and professional than the front desk. After a short walk around town, we returned to the hotel and weren't acknowledged at all, the concierge kept her head down on her phone. I can appreciate a no-fuss stay where guests aren't overbothered, but for the price point and the fact that this was a special anniversary trip, being completely ignored wasn't what we expected. A simple greeting or acknowledgment would have gone a long way. The hotel itself is very pretty. The furnishings are lovely, and the room was nice and comfortable. The views were nothing particularly special; it appears the ocean-facing side is reserved for a conference space. Still, we did enjoy the room. Like many Newport hotels, valet parking is the only option and comes with a daily fee. The valet team was excellent- friendly, accommodating, and consistent throughout our stay. The restaurant deserves special mention: the staff was outstanding, and the food was excellent. Truly a five-star experience there- would def go back to dine with them. The location is also a positive, close enough to everything without being directly on the busy street. However, overall, we wouldn't choose to stay here again at this price point. Upon checkout, we noticed a charming bar/library space that we didn't even realize was available to guests as no one mentioned it to us during check-in. A beautiful hotel is wonderful, but to be considered luxury, the service needs to match the setting. Unfortunately, that piece was missing for us. If we wanted an experience that anyone could offer, we could have gone anywhere else, for much less.

Despite it being a warm summer evening around 8 PM on a Wednesday, we were turned away because one person in our party wore a t-shirt instead of a collared shirt. For a midweek outing in August, that felt unnecessarily rigid and to be honest a little too pretentious. Although we can understand enforcing dress codes on weekend nights this seemed out of touch. We checked into connecting balcony rooms. The rooms were clean but the balcony doors were hard to open. You have to pull it back really hard before unlocking it. The beds were comfortable. There are no microwaves but I called in to request one for the room. The first night I went to skiff bar to order some food and use our 2 $20 food credits. I ordered oysters and coconut shrimp. The oyster appetizer was terrible... the oysters flesh was tiny, totally not worth it. The next morning we had the hotel buffet for $32 a head. Omelet station was good. Standard breakfast items, view was good. We really only ate there for the view. Our waitress was barely around. Hotel is at a great location. Very close to the wharf and also right across from a small aquarium. The balcony was a nice place to chill, overall the hotel wasn't crowded. The facility and the rooms are sparkling clean, and don't even get me started about the decor! It is to die for - quirky, fun, and super Instagram-friendly. They are owned by Lark Hotels, a small company, and the bird details are subtly present throughout. My favorite nod to their namesake was an adorable Do Not Disturb sign that hung on the guestroom door reading "Shh.. We're Nesting." It honestly took all my willpower not to steal it! Ahem. We had a great experience with Peter, the Attwater's Front Desk Manager. Not only did he call us prior to check in to see if he could assist with anything we would need, he also upgraded us from the small Queen room that we had booked to the spacious Lark Suite, their largest accommodation. The suite had a gas fireplace, soaking tub, and gorgeous seating area with a dining table and several cozy couches and armchairs. We were super grateful for his hospitality, and even when we had a minor issue with the heating system in the room not lowering, Peter assisted us in the morning and generously offered vouchers for a future night stay. Thank you for your attention to detail and hospitality! I also LOVED the fact that the Attwater offers hot items in their included breakfast. We stay at a lot of small bed and breakfasts as stay and vacations, and one can only have so many cranberry muffins or glazed croissants. They did offer morning pastry standbys, but I was delighted to find a warm and delicious Cheddar Hash Brown Egg Bake and Shredded Brussels Slaw with Hard Boiled Eggs among the offerings. It really took the stay to the next level, and as a couple that stays at several B&Bs and small hotels, it did not go unnoticed! We can't wait for our next chance to visit :)

Many lodging options are…read moreinns and B&Bs in colonial buildings, but we were looking for something modern and sleek along the waterfront. (Sorry to be that person!) I loved the location of this hotel and the clean lines of the common spaces and rooms. However the $45 valet parking fee is ridiculous at the end of the season (10/28). Offer a self service option for half that - but, oh, wait, UPP owns the hotel lot too, as well as pretty much all parking in Newport. Certainly there were a lot of hotel amenities missing at this price point as others have mentioned (very small gym, and no coffee makers, no microwave, no mini fridge in room (nor safes), but also the daybed was dusty and the TV lacked options, which may have been ok, but I couldn't even mirror my own device/streaming service to the TV. Ideally you're not in your hotel room when in Newport, but if you're here for work and need some down time, those are all minuses. If you don't plan to spend much time in your room and don't mind paying $45 for parking, this is a decent option for its location.

Exceptional customer service, an excellent location in the middle of Newport's historic waterfront,…read moreand many special touches enhanced our stay. The Mill Street Inn is now our go‑to lodging in Newport. From booking by phone to checking out, the staff was friendly and always available to help with questions. The goodie bag we received upon arrival was a nice touch, and everything inside was Rhode Island-made and delicious. While the bathroom was small, we preferred having the spacious sitting area, which was wonderful for relaxing and enjoying breakfast. We also appreciated the customizable breakfasts (beverage options, fresh bakery items, fruit, and protein choices) delivered to your room at your requested time. The rooms included unexpected but thoughtful touches such as coffee, tea, filtered water, quality toiletries, a magnified mirror, and cotton balls in the bathroom. Yes, the parking is tight and first-come, first-served, but they do offer complimentary parking--a treasured commodity in this part of Newport.

Despite a few mishaps, I had to give this place 4 stars because I would stay here again and again…read moreand again. Here are the things I didn't love. The parking can be rough. If you are not one of the lucky three that gets a spot in the side lot you have to park in the garage and the garage is tight. Tight tight, tighter than tight, as tight as you can get. Put it this way, it took me about 15 minutes to safely pull into a space in absolute fear I was going to hit a pole or the car parked next to me. When it was time to pull out, torture, luckily someone who worked here saw me struggling and he offered to get in and do it for me. Even for him, it took multiple attempts to steer clear of any objects. It's a real pain in the ass I can't sugar coat it. Next negative, the toilet in my room wouldn't flush. That was frustrating and when I told the front desk attendant she wasn't' surprised so this must be a thing. Also, whenever I walked into my bedroom I got a wet sock, there was a leak of some sort I think it may have been coming from the air conditioner unit up above but I can't be too sure. Next negative, the outlets are crappy, anything I plugged in was super loose I really had to jam it in there and that was the case with every outlet, some were unusable because of how loose they were. Lastly, the shower was scalding hot, scalding. I adjusted the temperature but no matter which way I turned it was different levels of scalding. I had to let the shower run for five minutes before I could get in there and I like a hot shower. This temperature was hospital burn status. Okay the real last thing, no elevator. I had to lug up two flights of stairs with my big ass suitcase but is it Mill Street Inn's fault that I packed a weeks worth of stuff for one night or is that a me problem? As I'm mentioning all these negatives I'm wondering if 4 stars is appropriate but I'm sticking with it and I'll tell you why. The room was beautiful and enormous. I stayed in a suite with a dining room table and chairs, a couch, coffee table, multiple arm chairs, huge bed with the most comfortable pillows I have ever experienced in my entire life. Dreamy I tell you, like melting in but not too much, just perfect. The bathroom vanity counter was enormous. I had so much room to put out all of my things, much appreciated. The location could not have been better. One block away from the main street, the easiest walk to everywhere. Also tucked away in a beautiful neighborhood so it was safe, cozy and quiet. I walked back from a night out by myself and felt extremely safe doing so. The lobby is beautiful, they had complimentary sangria and complimentary water with lemons and limes. They had every board game you could imagine, I loved that. There was a fitness center with canned electrolyte infused waters, they had a beautiful roof top which I had entirely to myself both times I went up there. Gorgeous views of the neighborhood and the water. I loved my time up there it was serene and relaxing with tons of tables and chairs for lounging. They had complimentary breakfast served to your door in the morning. The night before you pick and choose what you want from each category and there was plenty to choose from. I ordered an organic cold brew, two hard boiled eggs, granola, and something else, anyways everything came to the door at the exact minute I asked for it to be delivered and it was delicious. Also, they give you a welcome bag with snacks when you arrive! There were pretzels, a massive bag of popcorn and sea salt caramels. I thought that was such a special touch. Anyways, looking back there were a lot of annoyances that could have aggravated me but there were so many good things about my stay that the good overshadowed the bad and I would 100% stay here again.
