Laura took the time to help me consider the matting choices I had, and listened to my concerns. She took all the time I needed, explained her process, and suggested different products that may help, and why. She underpromised (material delivery might have been an issue) and over delivered as far as when my framed painting was ready. I got it in time for my husband's Christmas gift, and he was delighted! The color of the mat complements the painting perfectly, as it does our home. Gilded Moon is also beautiful to visit. It showcases art while using it as framing examples - so many possibilities. We visited this frame shop/art gallery three days ago and it's a lovely place, situated on large and pretty grounds that have two big sculptures of people. The Gilded Moon is located in Millerton's business district, which is really charming - and it's on the same block as the Irving Farm Coffee House (see my separate review). read more

I went to Gilded Moon because I live nearby and I really prefer to patronize local businesses when I can. I had some old maps I wanted to have dry mounted only. I have had some pieces framed there before and have enjoyed the quality, but despite the fact that I was already a customer of theirs, they refused to dry mount my map unless I spend the minimum of $350 to have it fully framed. I politely declined. If I were to run a business like theirs, I like to think I would be open to servicing clientele with a wide array of budgets and tastes. While searching for an alternative framer, I found a very pleasant shop two towns over that offers exceptional value and doesn't require you spend a minimum in order for them to work with you. Much prefer this type of experience. read more

We have entrusted so many different things to the very creative and reliable owners of Gilded Moon that I can't even count. Maybe 30 different pieces? (We have no more wall space!) They have framed for us: prints, maps, canvases, oils, watercolors, photographs and antique letters. Some were very difficult pieces (one that needed to be viewed both from front and back, for instance.) They framed a set of prints of different sizes that were done by different artists with a common theme, and floated them beautifully in matching frames. Several years later, none of the prints has slipped in any way (a problem I've had a lot with prints that are floated, done by other framers.) Their care and concern is exceptional, and they're such nice people, to boot. If you're looking for cheap or impermanent solutions, these may not be your people. Custom framing is an art and is time consuming and requires taste and care - and not everyone does it well. These guys are great. What they've done for us is to preserve items of all different sizes, styles and values so that they can be viewed in their best light. I have recommended them to everyone I know. I can attest to the fact that their prices, for what they do, are not that high. They usually offer us several price points. They have yet to disappoint - and we've had a lot of experience with framing, over the years. read more

I have an eclectic collection of art pieces - old, oil paintings, charcoals, watercolors, limited editions contemporary prints and Gilded Moon has helped me choose the perfect frame each time. We now have six paintings framed by the Gilded Moon and cannot be happier. The experience was completely professional from start to finish, the communication was excellent, and the turnaround was fast. With other framing shops I have worked with, I have found the quality to be not as good resulting in problems which I had to deal with later, and the turn around time has sometimes been horrendous. Also, The Gilded Moon was able to help me pick out the right frames using their computer imaging technology which allowed me to see the paintings in different frames, and their selection of frames was extensive. read more

We didn't encounter any rudeness at Gilded Moon, but we were shocked by their astronomical estimate for framing, especially considering their small town location.. Admitedly, they did a pretty good job, but it took them much longer than is customary, even at high end custom places. Not recommended. read more
