I thought I properly protected a minimalist, blonde wood frame before we moved from White Plains to…read moreThe Catskills- but when I started unpacking my picture frame boxes, one of them had a nasty break during the move with the company we hired. I've had luck in the past taking pictures frames to my local Michael's in Westchester, but now that I'm up here, I wanted to support a small business. Valentina Custom Frame & G. on Main St in New Paltz has its own parking lot- which makes it super easy if you can't find any parking on the strip. Between modern, rustic, wood, ornate and other frame styles, this small shop, showcases at least 100, 200+ (if not more) samples to choose from. Valentina aims to please because the moment I came here with a desperate look on my face and showed her the frame, she eased my worries and explained what how she'll fix it. At $25 to fix my frame- not only did I get a banging deal and she brought my frame back to life- but she's professional and passionate about all things frames.

Valentina took the time to understand what I was looking for and walked me through the various…read moreoptions. One item I wanted framed was the embroidered section of a pillow my mom had made. She was able to extract that section and insert it into a beautiful frame that highlights the embroidery. The quality of the frames and the framing itself is fantastic and clearly above what you would find if you tried to do it yourself or went to a Michael's. Plus I now have the peace of mind that my mom's artwork is preserved forever.

I'm sorry to have to say this, but be warned, these guys are totally incompetent and are not to be…read moretrusted. We had them dig a new septic field in our backyard last summer, at vast expense. Like everyone in our area we have high water table. Disregarding this they dug a small pit for the septic field and placed the infiltrators literally underwater. I'm no expert but even I thought this was not going to work. The "boss" came by to survey the situation and simply dumped gravel on top of it and cover it with dirt in order to obscure the underlying problem. 9 months later our system backed up. Our septic tank is taking on water that's backing up from the septic field. We've had our septic tank pumped twice in one week. I notified them of this problem and they initially said they'd come and survey the situation and offer a solution. But then they just ghosted me. After trying to contact them many times and finally threatening legal action, I finally got an email from the owner, David Friedlander, claiming to offer a solution. But he has since gone silent and never came by. We are now forced to hire an attorney to try to recover the cost of having to repeatedly pump our tank and fixing our septic field which is flowing backwards into the tank. Be warned.

STAFFING is really lacking; the line was looooooooong. This is not the fault of local management. More likely a corporate management decision or strategy. Retail is a catch 22- long lines and higher prices drive people online to shop which results in a ghost town vibe in the store which leads to more online shopping. SUGGESTION TO HOBBY LOBBY: Host in store craft events and "kids craft camps" to rebuild your base.

I love to up my decorating game from Fall to the Christmas holidays and purchase faux Fall leaves, stems to Norfolk pine garlands to decorate my home. Faux greenery aside, Hobby L. also has a Craft dep't, Fabric+Sewing, Baking supplies, Art items, candle holders, beads and more- which makes it a nice starting place to get some inspiration and tweak what you purchase with your own add-on flair. Since Hobby L. only carries faux greenery, I personally love adding real stems and flowers I purchase from a few florist shops to break down that artificial feel. Even if you're not into buying artificial anything, Hobby L. is a must-visit any time of the year for any of your crafts. Prices are fantastic. But the other big take-away for me is these folks carry more craft items and have more variety than Michael's & JOANN. No offense.

It is basically an…read moreart museum featuring psychadelic art that they readily admit was inspired due to trips on LSD and other drugs. Also, the main artist is Alex Grey who for a long time has done artwork for the band Tool. I think at first the art seems very impressive and trippy, but after a while it all starts to feel the same. There is a cafe on site but I did not visit as the building it was housed in asked you to take off your shoes and it was snowy the day I went. At 20 dollars it feels a bit expensive but overall I am glad I went. That said, some detractors online have called the place "a cult" and the vibes I felt were a little weird. I don't use the term lightly, but just going to state what others have said. Apparently they also have once a month events (around the full moon?) that neighbors have described as very loud. So definitely some negative reports on them not being the best neighbors. In short, worth a visit to check out the art, but not sure about some of the other programming.

We hired Arnold to replace our interior doors, door and window trim and baseboard. We asked him if…read morehe would be able to be complete for the painters who were scheduled to begin 3 weeks later and he agreed. We are now 8 weeks past that deadline and still not complete. He is also no longer answering calls or text messages. He damaged some of the freshly painted walls adjacent to the trim he installed and the paint was not applied appropriately to cover his patch. The trim in 3 door openings is not level or plumb and the doors are sticking- brand new doors are sticking!!! One door cannot be installed as the door frame he installed is 1-1/2" out of level. We asked for 1x4 finger jointed pre-primed pine trim for all door and window trim and 1x6 finger jointed pre-primed pine trim for he baseboard. To save money he used common pine boards with major knots and holes in them. We needed him to finish the install so that we wouldn't lose our spot in the painters schedule, so we agreed that he could install it if he caulked all the holes and painted it so the knots didn't show through. He didn't do that. He used different trim that doesn't match what we asked for on the first floor of our home because he said it would allow him to go faster and it was similar width to what we wanted. We agreed, again, to get him to finish before the painters. He didn't finish before the painters and now our walls were damaged when he was installing, caulking and painting the trim. DO NOT USE THIS GUY.
