I enjoyed the veggie taco here. It was filled to the brim with veggies, beans, and rice. The salsa is so good too. The side of rice and beans were good. Not dry and flavorful. Friendly employees and large dining area, good for groups. Ample parking as well.

Gil's is a little hidden off 96th Street, you really have to be looking for it. We had lunch there the other day. The staff is super welcoming, engaging, friendly and attentive. We ordered and paid at the counter. Food comes out fairly quickly. The dining room is slightly dated but really clean and comfortable. There is an area for private parties. We took a booth. The menu offers a typical range of Mexican fare - tacos, burritos, enchiladas, tortas, etc. We were in the mood for a couple tacos. I had a shrimp and a chicken taco. The shrimp taco was delicious, fresh with plump grilled shrimp. The chicken taco was a really dry. Fortunately they offered sauces that helped with the dryness. I wouldn't get chicken again but the shrimp was great. My husband had a steak taco, which he devoured and said was delicious. He also had a chicken taco, which was dry. The restrooms are large and clean. There was a changing table in the women's room. The parking lot is adequate although there were potholes on the access road.

    Delicious burrito with birria

I should not have waited so long to try Gil Tacos. I had a birria burrito and some chips and guacamole. The burrito was full of savory beef and melted cheese, and some other stuff that didn't matter. The dipping consommé only took the deliciousness up a few notches. One of the best things I've eaten in the past year, easily. The chips and guacamole were a little bland but I squeezed some lime into the guacamole and that helped. Gil taco is behind the gas station, where you turn to go to Woodland bowl, but turn right to get to the restaurant and left to go bowling. If you are going bowling, stop for a taco or two or a burrito first.

I used online ordering for pickup. The website is simple and very user friendly. The food was ready at the promised time and the order correct! The restaurant was very clean and nicely decorated. The waiter was nice and professional! My food was really good! The pork tacos were the best I've tasted in Indianapolis!

Some of the best tacos I had in Indy! The tacos were soft and savory, the fish taco was freshly fried and loaded with meat! The guacamole was fresh, not spicy, but a refreshing flavor. The esquite was so good, so well seasoned and the corn was fresh. The service was top tier and I always love coming here as I wait to get my car serviced. The place is clean and tidy and h they have salsas and pickled vegetables available at the front counter so you can add as much as you want to your food. Will definitely keep coming back!

I was greeted at the door. The service and tacos were both great. Its rare that I can get a veggie taco and it's flavorful. The avocado salsa was 10/10. This place is definitely a hidden gem. It's at the old Bob Evans restaurant. The tacos were also reasonably priced.

Excellent service once you walk in the door. Can give you recommendations if you haven't been here. Treat you with respect and as family. The food is hot and fresh. It's always delicious no matter what you get. This is an old Bob Evan's turned into a quant little road side Mexican cart.

Happy they open a new location. I used to go to their Lynhurst location all the time while working. I went on a weekday and the parking lot was empty. Just me and the staff in the restaurant. This place doesn't get enough attention. This is on my top best taco spots in Indy. The food is excellent. The food is authentic tacos : 10 out of 10 The price is affordable and the staff are friendly. Like I said this is one of the best taco place here in Indy.

Tucked inside a former Bob Evans, the northside of town finally gets a great, authentic taco place. These are the same folks that run Gil Tacos on Lynhurtst. Tacos are individually ordered and made-to-order. Tortas have a good amount of toppings on them. Very casual environment, ample parking but you have to pull into the side road near the BP to get to the restaurant. Follow the signs. Birria tacos are only served on weekends and are very flavorful. I didn't see consume on the menu, so not sure if they have it or not. Wife said these are among the best tacos she's had in a while. Come check out an Indianapolis staple at their new, second location!

Even with the rush, I was able to snag a seat quite quickly. I was so impressed by how efficiently the staff cleared and prepared my table; it's those little touches of attentiveness that really make a difference. I decided to keep things classic and ordered the Asada Tacos. The service was remarkably swift my order arrived in under ten minutes, which is exactly the kind of efficiency I adore. While the initial presentation was a bit more understated than I anticipated, the flavor was a total 8/10 triumph! The staff was also incredibly accommodating when it came to my preferences; they brought over a lovely selection of chips and sauces, but were perfectly gracious when I mentioned I prefer to avoid the heat. These are truly some of the best tacos I've had the pleasure of trying lately. I will most certainly be a regular here!

I don't know how else to explain it. The queso is delicious. They have a salsa bar, and I'm not joking when I say there are a lot of delicious homemade salsas on the salsa bar. You have to buy a basket of chips, but it's very inexpensive and so worth it for the salsa bar! Lastly, the Al pastor is the bomb. I like a dim atmosphere, but it was hardly lit enough to read the menu. It was difficult to navigate as it was mostly in Spanish. Extremely limited vegetarian options which I'm not sure I can assume were actually without chicken base in the rice, etc. I didn't even see a vegetable fajita on the menu. My vegetarian burrito sans crema and cheese consisted of little more than rice and a couple small diced pieces of avocado and diced tomato. Iceberg lettuce? I saw corn niblets and a pea fall out. Bland. Hot sauce choices not fantastic. What kind of burrito contains no beans?? Everyone else at my table received flatware. I was given a plastic fork. Once I received an actual fork & knife, they kept tearing the paper underneath my burrito. Strangely served with raw cucumber (ick) & lime wedges on the side. Edible at best. The atmosphere looked interesting upon entry, but it felt grungy, the chairs were heavy. I was seated right next to a brick wall/chimney. Service was sparse. Definite language barrier. The dish my companions received was an array of meat in a molcajete. Mixed feedback on the peppers being ungodly too hot & some of it, especially the sausage, having a good flavor. It was massive & messy. It was interesting initially but definitely didn't look appetizing to me. That came with a bowl of beans in sauce with what we later discovered were Chicharrón on top. It looked like boiled mystery chicken skin. A friend from SoCal I consulted online had no idea what it was from my photo as we tried to discern it & they didn't realize it was even Mexican food from the appearance. It was assumed I was at an Asian joint. We had to ask for drink refills far into our meal. I was given a fresh new cup. The server took another person's cup from the table and refilled it in the back. That was strange and seemed unsanitary. We didn't get everything we asked for. I'd say language was the problem except for the fact the server had understood my requests when "crema" was the only Spanish word I used. Ladies' room had room for one person at a time. The sink was backing up. It felt dingy like the rest of the building. I'm glad they had paper towels and not just a hand blower. I didn't choose the restaurant. It was one of the worst if not THE most horrible Mexican meals & experiences I've had in my life. Hard pass. I'd gladly pay more for better fare elsewhere. I can make far superior at home.

The tacos (your choice of protein) were $1.49 each. I was honestly surprised that they had plenty of onions, cilantro, two different sauces & a baggie of radishes & limes for that price. I will say, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the shredded chicken although clearly seasoned (color wise) with sazon, it was dried completely out with only a hint of flavor. I added the green sauce on the chicken ones and it gave it a little umph but then I tasted the amazing seasoning in the rice and beans & WOW. I put a little of both on the chicken tacos and that was just what they needed. All in all the tacos were an 8/10 and the rice+beans were 10/10. The rice was cooked perfectly & the best compliment to the soupy beans. Parking: TERRIBLY positioned & shared lot, spots are tight & all the businesses stay with a crowd. Service: the cashier wasn't unpleasant BUT I had every intention on sitting down and eating inside (they have about 8 tables and 4 small booths) but she assumed I wanted it to-go without asking me as she asked the family of Spanish/hispanic/latino/a heritage before AND after me. In the moment I didn't feel slighted because I think I was just so tired & hangry but it definitely is memorable now that I'm writing the review a day later. I could have very well corrected her and said I wanted to dine in but I'm not one to force it when I feel unwanted or unwelcomed . This by no means discredits the food, it was wonderful & so was the price. I wouldn't go as far as to say I'll never be back because it would be a lie - what I WILL do moving forward is speak up for myself as it could have been done unintentionally.

As we moved to the bar to wait for our food, the bartender informed us that he had put away the rim device to salt our glasses. We had already paid, so what were we to do. We said, "ok." Then we questioned what time they closed. We doubled checked, 9:30. It was only 8:30. I don't prefer a margarita without salt but felt stuck. Also, it wasn't as if we were the last ones to come in. I counted at least 6 parties that came in after us. The chorizo queso was excellent. The tacos were decent. However, while it may seem like a small thing, the lack of salt on the rim of my $12 margarita really sunk this place for me. The restaurant is sleek and has a cool vibe, but we immediately realized it was not going to be what we thought of when we saw "street tacos" mentioned during Google search. It's more of a metropolitan American Soul fusion place, with a heavy emphasis on loaded, uniquely flavored tacos instead of traditional Mexicana. The server was wonderful in explaining their menu and gave multiple recommendations, which I went with all of her great suggestions once I told her what I was craving. My husband didn't enjoy his appetizer, saying it tasted too sweet instead of savory for him, but the server was great at being aware of our plates and took the appetizer off our bill when she noticed he wasn't eating it without us even mentioning it. I got three different tacos, and the only one I didn't enjoy was due to the Mac n cheese that was stuffed in it. It just didn't taste or feel right having a taco with macaroni that was pushed in so densely that it became a sponge. The other two were great! My husband gave his burrito a 3/5, as he felt it was too much one note. Overall, don't come here if you're looking for upscale Mexicana, but instead want to enjoy interesting fusion flavors and fun cocktails. Great place for a group outing or celebration!

I don't usually shop at a Mexican grocery unless I am looking for cotija cheese for making elote. However, I entered the grocery because the sign in front of the restaurant entrance said it was closed. I clearly saw people working at the food counter and a customer standing there, so I went through the grocery to see what was going on. Apparently, nobody had removed the sign and left a "caution" cone blocking the door. Anyway, after the weird start, I enjoyed my experience. The colorful dining room has lots of festival streamers hanging from the ceiling and loud Mexican music playing. (Note that the grocery has an equally loud sound system playing something completely different so you get a weird stereo effect that is hard to tune out.) The dining booths go about half way back into the restaurant on both sides. Beyond the left side is a cooking area with a large menu posted over the top. Even though there is a counter at the cooking area, you don't order there. Behind you on the right near the back of the restaurant is a smaller counter with a cash register and a menu booklet that you order from. Once you place your order and pay, you wait and they will bring it out to you. Note that any beverages are sold in bottle form and are self-serve from the cooler next to the order counter. The wait was fairly short considering they prepare the entrees to order. I went with a couple tacos (with the cilantro and white onion) and ordered rice and beans. Apparently the cashier had a little trouble understanding me when I ordered the Asada and Pollo tacos. I was brought out the Asada and Lomo instead. (I was the only customer at the time.) But, instead of sending it back, I like pork loin as well as chicken, so I simply added some green sauce (mild) and a few drops of red (supposed to be hot, but I didn't think it was that hot.) The tacos were excellent. They were served on double layered corn tortillas. I usually prefer flour, but wasn't given an option here. These were the best tasting corn tortilla shells I've had. And the ingredients inside were delicious with the added items being colorfully fresh. The side of beans and rice were forgettable. Not bad, just lacking much texture and flavor. Very bland and not much other than filler when compared to the robust flavor of the tacos. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was pretty clean looking, so given the high quality of flavor, I would recommend stopping by to quench your Mexican food cravings. Review #2698
