When it comes to cupcakes, I am as much as critic as a fan...so if I say a cupcake can do better, you know it must take a lot for me to say that and come to that conclusion. I've had Gigi's before (in San Antonio) and I don't remember if I truly liked their cupcakes then, but I must have not thought that they were so bad not to return. But I guess now I can confirm that they aren't my favorite cupcake. Reason being is, gasp, there is just way too much frosting...trust me, I cant believe I'd ever say that. I got a strawberry shortcake cupcake and while the cake could have also had a softer texture (felt a little too dense), the frosting was overkill. Don't get me wrong, I always love a cupcake with more frosting than cake, but this one just seemed more off balance than I'd prefer. Yet, there were plenty of customers coming in that day to pick up pre-packaged orders, so it could just be a "me" thing, or maybe the folks of Bee Caves prefer their cupcakes on the sugar high side! In Austin, Cupprimo ranks supreme, followed by a good ol' Sprinkles cupcake. I've tried to like this place a number of times but it just never works out. Today was another hit and miss. I like fresh cupcakes that are soft and moist. For whatever reason, every time I visit the cupcakes always seem to be heavy, dense and a little on the dryer side. Todays pick was red velvet, cookie dough, midnight chocolate and peanut butter cheesecake. Adding here that I didn't even mention HEB in initial review. My fave cupcakes were from "Sweet Cakes for You" bakery, but sadly they closed for family reasons but they would have lines around the block. I see now that the owner just replies with rude messages. My experience at Gigis a few weeks back was amazing and I wanted to ensure I wrote this review about how pleasant my experience has been at this location. We were hosting a Mardi Gras themed party for over very first home event. My boyfriend and I immediately thought of GiGis when we were in need of king cake inspired cupcakes, as their cupcakes are always over the top beautiful. The whole process from start to finish was amazing - we were easily able to communicate with Savannah exactly what we were wanting and she and the whole GiGis team made our vision come to life! We picked up the cupcakes and was treated with nothing but hospitality and care by the two lovely young ladies working that day (Savannah and another lady I can't remember her name). This was a large order that could have been a disaster, but the team and attention the staff gave us was on point and I believe is a huge reason everything went so smoothly. Okay, so I've been wanting to come to Gigi's since I discovered another restaurant that is next door, okay a few doors down. Well, today after work, was the day, I finally came in. It is in a strip mall, so the parking lot is like right in front of the buildings. And across the drive. Okay, let's get inside. The wall decor is very nice, cupcakes decorated so beautifully. A gorgeous piece of the 360 bridge, which is my absolute favorite bridge. Every time I drive over, I have to take a picture. If you turn me into the cops, I'll deny it! (Side note, be sure to delete all criminating pictures.) anyway, 360 bridge is such a beautiful representation of Austin. I love that the bridge mural has its own wall, with Bee Cave written across it. Even though the bridge is not in Bee Cave. But this gorgeous Gigi cupcake bakery is! And let's talk about their cupcake displace. I feel like they wanted everything white and very bright so the cupcakes, which are works of art by the way, they just stand out even more. I can't wait to show you the pictures I took. Everything is stunning. Like it's just the most perfect looking cupcake and frosting design. A true master piece in each. To the baker/ designer, you can't learn that in school, that's a God given gift! God blessed your hands and creative mind! After taking a bunch of pictures, you will see soon, I finally decided on my cupcake. The S'mores camp fire. I had to take it home, they were getting ready to close, and I didn't want to be that person. I do want to mention, there are no prices listed. Not even on my side of the register when I inserted my credit card. I guess if you have to ask how much a cupcake is, you can't afford it. It's a cupcake, not a Bugatti EB 110. but I did notice on the counter they have an app? I asked about it and she said that you earn points. I haven't done the app yet, but I will by the next time I go. Oh yea, I'm coming back baby! So my first experience, is a sweet bakery, see what I just did there? Sweet, bakery. Get it? It's small inside, with a few tables with flowers on them. It's very clean. I don't remember if they had public bathroom or not. I think it's a sweet place to go for dessert, or take home. The packaging of the cupcake, too sweet! I mean, this is top of the line. The bag is beautiful and pink, it's a gift ready to be delivered. And the box the cupcake sits in, it's a hard cardboard very sturdy and beautiful as well. Both the bag and box are gorgeous. They are gift ready for ANY occasion. Now, how was the cupcake, you're dying to know right? So I got home, and mind you, this cupcake was my dinner, because I had a big lunch. So I plate it, and take the paper off the cupcake. I slide my fork all the way down. From the top of the frosting, which is about 2 inches high by the way! Insane amount of frosting. I slid my fork through that fudgy chocolate cupcake. Take my first bite, and it just melts in your mouth. The frosting is creamy, but it's like real frosting so it's like the grit of the sugar, you know what I mean. It's not butter cream, it's old school frosting, it has body, it has vanilla flavor, it's thick, but creamy too, and it's 2 inches of full on frosting! Mine was decorated with a small drizzle of chocolate on top, and the cutest tiny marshmallows on top of that drizzle chocolate. The cupcake itself, it's fudgy. It's a heavy cupcake, fudge like, I don't know how else to explain it. This is not HEB folks. This was made with heart. What makes it fudgy? It's more than a moist cupcake. I can't get over that flavor and texture. It's outstanding. I don't think I've ever enjoyed any other cupcake than the one I had at Gigi's. Hands down, the best cupcake. Like this is competition quality! I want to mention they have ice cream as well. And they do have some seating outside. I know Austin is a dog friendly city, but Texas health does not allow dogs inside any food type restaurant. Did I miss anything? If you lasted to the end of my review, thank you so much. This is one of my longer ones. It just means I had so much to say about Gigi's. It really is 5 stars. It's beautiful, it's delicious, it's a gift/occasion quality. Let's start by saying the cupcakes are fantastic, BUT the girls who work here are always very rude, specifically the woman with pretty tattoos. It makes me sad because when I think about cupcakes, you want happy moments. I arrived right at 6:00 PM. The two girls closing cumulatively made me feel like I never wanted to come back. I bit my temptation and only got a box of 4 and what a regret I have for not getting a full dozen, but my hips don't regret it! Bought a dozen minis for my friend's birthday. They looked exactly as expected. They tasted even better. Favorites were the strawberry. Tasted the fresh strawberry bits in the cake. The cupcakes are so good! My favorite is the blackberry cupcake, seriously one of the best cupcakes I've ever had. The staff is nice as well! Only downside, and this does happen because no one is perfect, I found a small blue plastic piece in my German chocolate cupcake. Probably came off a package when the baker was making the batter? Had some cupcakes delivered over the weekend to celebrate a friends birthday. We ordered four cupcakes, each a different flavor. This review is entirely for the cupcakes themselves since I didn't go to the actual store. These cupcakes are fantastic! Way better than Sprinkles and I actually love Sprinkles. I had the strawberry cupcake and it had actual strawberries in the batter. The cake itself was light and not at all dry like some cupcakes can get. The bake was perfect. The buttercream was amazing, though there was a lot of it. My other cupcake that I ate the next day (still tasted completely fresh) was their special peanut butter one. The cake was rich and the peanut butter was well balanced and not too sweet. My friend had the chocolate chip cookie dough and the salted caramel cupcakes. She said the chocolate chip one buttercream tasted like actual cookie dough and she loved it. She took the other one with her, so I don't know how that one was, but I can only assume it was as good as the others. The cupcakes were packaged in an adorable box that had holders inside so they wouldn't tip over. They were then in a cute bag with directions go drive safely. It was so well done. What a disappointment! I went to Gigi's once a few years ago and wasn't crazy about it, but had a basic one I liked. I just went back and thought I was getting one of the one's I liked (couldn't remember which one). So, I got two of their "favorites." A Wedding Cake and Strawberry Shortcake. They were both pretty bad, overly sweet and didn't taste like they were made with all butter. They actually had an artificial flavor.
