This company sucks. I had been buying gift cards from them for a while with no problems. I'd purchased 15 or 20 cards and then all of the sudden I try to purchase one and am denied. No reason for this. I used the same credit card I had every time before. I call to find out what is going on. They inform me that they use a 3rd party verifier and that they have declined my purchased. They could not tell me why but COULD tell me that they would no longer be able to accept any orders from me. lol I then go open another account and use a different credit card. I'm going along. I make many purchases over a period of time just like on my last account when Bam! I am hit again. Denied! Same response. They don't know why I was denied, but can't take any more orders from me. My second account can now no longer be used. What a joke! I won't bother opening a third. read more

I don't like how they had to use a "3rd party" to verify our identity as a buyer and that a human contact like calling couldn't by pass that even though the company had my money for hours. I had purchased three orders prior to this and had no issue. The lack of information the customer service rep had about what was being "verified" by this 3rd party was what didn't sit right with me. And the fact that I called and can verify that I am a human wasn't enough is something I didnt like either. I've used GiftCardZen for years to purchase a multitude of gift cards for all occasions. They have been very courteous, VERY quick to deliver the gift card (if it is an e-gift card, it is instantly available) and for the most part, the cards have been of the value stated. In the rare cases that the cards have had a zero-balance or less than full balance, the GCZ team has fully refunded the charges and apologized for the inconvenience. I would give GCZ 5-stars as my favorite gift card reseller, except for the fact that earlier this year, they were purchased by RetailMeNot. While the customer service and quality has remained the same, the margin (savings) on the gift cards has decreased substantially. A Staples gift card at GCZ a year ago would have been 12% off, but is now only 1.25% off. It seems that RetailMeNot has squeezed the profit margin out of most gift cards on the site. Other examples: CVS gift cards were often 18-20% off one year ago - now they are 12% on average. Best Buy gift cards were often 5-6% off one year ago - now they are only 2.5%. Some will say that they rely solely on supply and demand - that there are more customers now that RetailMeNot has purchased them. I don't see this to be the case. There was a decent volume of gift cards one year ago, which has not changed to present day. If GCZ offers gift cards with a higher discount again, I may come back to the site more. But until then, I will have to go to another site like Raise, or take advantage of cash back offers that my credit cards offer. read more

I assume GiftCard Zen is a credit card scam. In buying a gift card, the first credit card I used was declined. The second credit card I used appeared to work, and then they cancelled the transaction with an email saying they wouldn't say the reason, but I could ask. So, I asked. The response was to blame a mysterious third party provider and say they didn't know. They probably just wanted my credit card info. I will be on the lookout for fraudulent charges on the cards I used with them. Within an hour, the first credit card I used contacted me about fraudulent charges in the form of THREE charges from GiftcardZen. Lesson learned. read more

Bought a Dunkin gift card value $50 for 38 bucks. What a great deal I thought. Card had 50 bucks on it when I got it. I used it 3 times in a week, purchases adding up to about 14 bucks. On my 4th visit, when paying my card read 0. I had to ask the clerk to try again because that was not right. Long story short, after calling customer service for the card, I found out that whomever purchased the card originally used a stolen credit card, so anything that was bought with that card was revoked. In a nut shell, my Dunkin card was shut down. I was steaming mad. After going back and forth so many times with GIft Card zen, I finally got a refund. Too much of a hassle and uncertainty. read more

I don't understand all the negativity about this company. They are 100% upright and stand by problems. The only reason problems occur is because of thieves. The way it works is someone sells them a gift card at a reduced rate. They in turn sell it to you and make a small profit on each card. I have bought 100's of cards. I bought a $25 giftcard for Rubio's Restaurant from Zen. I specifically wanted a tangible, hard plastic card. When we took it to the restaurant, it didn't work on numerous attempts, so we paid with cash. The next day I wrote to the folks at Zen and I quickly got a response. I was told that Zen's records showed the card was perfectly legitimate and that henceforth I should ask the folks at Rubios to enter the card's 19-digit number by hand into the card reader. So... the next time we went to Rubio's I asked the cashier to enter the number manually. She did't know how to do that, so she asked other employees (teenagers working part time) for help. None of them knew that process, either, and the manager was out at the time. We ended up paying by cash again, and still have a gift card with an unused balance. This scenario - a total absence of convenience - is not what I expected or purchased from Zen. Actually, it's the opposite. There were numerous good options for Zen to resolve their failure to deliver, but they instead chose to put the burden on us and the Rubio employees. Lord knows if we'll ever get to actually use this card for its intended purpose. Caveat Emptor. You can't say you haven't been warned. read more

I purchased a $100 gift card through Gift Card Zen for $80.81. A terrific deal! I was emailed my card number and PIN immediately. I was pretty excited, until I went to AMC's website to verify the balance. The balance was $0. I sent an email to customer service requesting a refund within 15 minutes of making my purchase. I was a little worried seeing all the poor reviews of Gift Card Zen, and knowing that I purchased an electronic gift card I thought it would be difficult to get a refund. It was not difficult at all. Within an hour I had a very nice email from customer service saying my claim would be passed on to the Loss Prevention Team who would work on getting me a refund. The next day I received another email saying I was being issued a refund. The money was back in my account the next day. I was disappointed my gift card deal was too good to be true, but I was very pleased with the customer service provided by Gift Card Zen. I will definitely continue to use them. read more

I too had my order cancelled without explanation. When I requested one I was told that their 3rd party verifier cancelled it. I explained that I was still interested in purchasing a card from them and that I had tried again with a different payment method and was given an error code (CODE: 43) "I apologize for any confusion. With out the verification from our 3rd party we would't be able to process any future orders. I know that its frustrating. Where they don't provide us much information as to why they are unable to complete their verification we would suggest considering one of our competitors if you are still interested in purchasing a card from a secondary market. Received it and used it instantly!!! you may not think 5 dollars is a lot but it took about the same time it would take to find a coupon worth that much. i just bought more gift cards from giftcard zen and as usual, service, price and quality is simply GREAT..... ;-) - i bought some bed bath and beyond cards ! i knew i had to buy closet stuff and soda stream gas cartridge refills. why not save an additional 10% (or so!... discount goes up and down... i wish it would just go uppp!...) when i already use the 20% off coupons there?! these were physical cards -- merchandise credits / plastic cards that had to be mailed, but once mailed from arizona it only took a day to get to los angeles. - i bought some lowes e-gift cards. these, i could print out and in the store they just scan the bar code, or i could use them online and input the card and pin #. super super convenient, because i was buying on line. - and i happened to be on the cole-haan site, and they were having their semi-annual 30% off *everything* sale. i think i have one formal / real pair of shoes. like i have one suit (and yes... it does go to weddings and funerals!). but i knew i needed some grown-up shoes for the times have to be out in public and not uncouth. i checked gcz, and they had e-gift certificates at 13.5% off. At first it will look like a good idea, so I did buy a gift card for Lowes with 8.8% discount. I though it will be an easy process but at first I had to wait until the next BUSINESS day to get my order released and after a whole day they decided to cancel my order without any clear reason, and I am still waiting to get my money back. Used this company off of recommendation of the internet. After checking it out (according to Yelp reviews, not enough). I placed an order. After about 1 hour i received notice that my gift card was available, awesome! It had the right balance and i was able to use it. Seeing my success, my faith grew in the company and I opted to purchase a few more gift cards. This is when it went downhill, after about 3 days my money was refunded and I received an email stating that their "3rd party" company could not identify me. I'm like ok whatever. i'll just email/call and get this cleared up; no dice. I got the same canned response which quickly led me to believe this is some sort of scam working in the background. Beware. I stupidly used their online web form to submit the card numbers and pins for each of seven $50 Walmart gift cards. The next morning, all seven had been drained to $0. I was never paid and they denied any responsibility for taking the funds. They said it couldn't possibly have been them, using reasoning that is beyond pure denial. Think "ear muffs!" I lost almost $300. I still have all seven cards. No one else had access. Checked on Facebook and lo and behold, I'm not alone. I have no idea how or why, and they claim that they have no insight into how or why either, since this was a third-party issue. My best guess is that it's because I requested two refunds - which obviously is no fault of mine when they are selling gift cards that have been used. I tried reasoning with them to "unfreeze" my account, but no luck. So now I'm done with them. I've used Cardcash with great success, so I'm just going to use them. I bought gift cards from 2 other places only to have them call me to verify me during my working hours. Was too much of a hassle. One day while on retailmenot.com a site I use anytime I am about to purchase. I noticed this gift card option. Might if seen it before when it was Raise but didn't click on it. Now GiftCard Zen caught my eye and the key word got me back in the game. Giftcards arrive immediately most of the time! This is my jam because if I'm going to make a purchase, I want the gift cards now. The first time I was going to buy a shirt on Dick's. Gift card was instant or in a few hours I think. Did it a second time to buy a bike, scored. I'm a dunkin fan and I can now buy cards for cheap and merge then with another card. These are instant! Been using it for a few months, maybe bought a dozen times. No issues. I think certain companies you want to stay away from like Wal-Mart and iTunes. My guess is they have gift card generators online and that is how you people are losing money, or you are buying hard gift cards and they have the codes still to use online. No fault of Zen. I would use the gift cards fast, stuck with electronic versions too. read more

They had plenty of cards listed but after entering all my billing info and placing the order they immediately within seconds of confirming the order sent an email saying: "We are writing to let you know that your recent transaction has been rejected. This does not mean you did something wrong, but it does mean we cannot proceed with this transaction and we apologize for any inconvenience. We have refunded your money, and it will be available on your credit card within a few days, though some refunds take effect immediately." Upon writing them asking them why they said : "I'm sorry you had an issue with your order! It looks like your order was declined by our automated third-party verification system. For security reasons, they don't provide us with any additional information. We are working with them to improve this system so that more orders are approved, but we are unable to process this order at this time. I'm sorry again for the inconvenience. Please let us know if we can help you with anything else. Have a great day!" This is a total scam and makes no sense at all. It looks like they are putting up gift cards that they don't have as a way to either market their website or gather information on what gift cards are in demand to modify their pricing. Not once did they attempt to further verify my information to actually make the sale as most other business would do. This company sucks. I purchased a $125 gift card specifically to buy a $125 item at a retail store, only to find out at checkout that it was worth $69. Cashier looked at me like I was trying to pull a fast one on her. Worst of all, the company only gave a partial refund of $41 instead of the $56 difference that I had to pay in store. Won't be using this company ever again, and i'm not surprised at all of the similar reviews. It's also worth noting that it took almost a week to get a response from them. I submitted a claim online, sent "support" and email, and called and left a voicemail. Their website, of course, says they'll be in contact within 24 hours. I guess I should've checked the value of the card online before I went into the store. I'm inclined to think that this company is scamming people by selling cards of lesser value in hopes that some people won't notice. I know there are thieves who do this, they should be ashamed. I couldn't "blame" GCZen, though I was frustrated. From 8/29 through 10/21 I bought EIGHT gift cards from GCZen, ranging from $145 to $320. Every SINGLE one was "stolen" when I went to use it. I went from frustrated to seriously pissed off, and I let them know. Well, a few months later I try to order another gift card, and gift card zen CANCELLED MY ACCOUNT!!!!! REALLY? I have been purchasing discounted cards since last 4 yrs or over. Occasionally I come across cards that have been zeroed out , and when I do report the problem I am refunded promptly . I have used Giftccard Zen several times to buy a discounted electronic gift card after finding something on-line that I wanted to purchase. My main grip is that it can take a whole day to get the e-mail with the electronic gift card number and pin. However, I do like getting the discount. You just have to plan well and not use this site if you need the card today or even tomorrow morning. I recommend you use the whole value of the card at one time if you want to avoid the issues some others have mentioned. read more

Great for saving money on almost anything. I use this to buy my groceries with as well as other things around town. I have had a few problems and they have been resolved right away. I recommend staying away from the Chick-Fil-A cards as I have batted 0-2 with them. Other than those 2 cards I have not had an issue with them at all.
