While in Chicago a couple of weeks ago me and the girlfriend schlepped around Skokie on Friday before Shabbat. We first attempted to do lunch at Ken's Diner, only to find out that they were closed. We did however notice a few Judaica things in the window of the store front a couple of doors down, so we decided to go and check it out.
The guy working there could not have been nicer. It was his wife's shop so he was not 100% sure where everything was, but he was more than willing to help in any way he could. They had some very gorgeous products, so many of which I wish were in my living room on display.
Not only did they have such great stuff but the man was so helpful. He knew we were looking for a place to eat, and took out the phone book so we could call around and try and find a kosher place in the area that was open. Additionally he knew we were going to Zelda's from there, and were planning on walking (about 1.5 miles). He said if we wanted to just wait 30 minutes until they close he will give us a lift.
We decided not to take him up on the offer but how giving of him. A man who we had just met seconds before, had no idea who we were, but was willing to go out of his way to help us. He definitely went above and beyond what I would expect of him. read more
