Great local candy store! Walked in on a whim with a friend after seeing Swedish candy trend online. The shopkeeper was very friendly and helped us decide what to try. I absolutely loved the lemon cola skulls and actually tried to buy more at another local SF candy store (closer to me) that offered Swedish candy, but they weren't offered there, to my disappointment. My friend and I drove an hour to go here to get Swedish candy. We got here at 6:45 which online said they were open, but when we got here there was a song on the door letting us know they closed at 6:30pm. For the time we drove to get here and for them to not even be open is ridiculous. read more

The name of this place is clever. Giddy brings up so many things from my childhood other than the spankings. I was a bad boy and could totally be bad here as well but surprisingly I held onto my Christian values. The place is so colorful and inviting in and of itself that it was an absolute painful resolve to not grab a bag of goodies. My friend however had a mission to satisfy his sweet tooth because he was heading back to the Sacramento area shortly thereafter. Not only was the candy sweet but the staff were too! Even had a brief conversation with a couple in there being just as bad as I wanted to be. In true Steven G fashion I managed to drop some adult jokes in the conversation as well, they cracked up. My son and I darted in here for a few minutes to spend his $3 budget on candy. He surveyed the tiny shop within less than a minute, then chose a $3 giant ball -- I'm blanking on the name, but it has something to do with choking. Walking into this small little candy shop was amazing, even if I didn't buy one thing. In my mind, I bought tons of delicious and sour things, but in reality, I just perused. The shop owner (assumption) was manning the register and greeting all the folks. She was kind and welcoming. There are small clear bags for customers to use to gather their goodies. I love candy and I love finding new candy stores with unique treats. Giddy is a small little shop but has plenty of options. As it's in Castro, there is no parking lot. This shop has a lot of unique licorice's that come from different parts of the world. They are delicious and worth a try, even if you're not normally a licorice person. There are lots of chocolates, gummies, sour candies, etc. You pick a bag and fill it up with the candies you'd like. The price is determined by weight. My only reason for giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is because all of the chocolate jars need to be taken off the shelf for you by the employee. Normally there is one employee working and if she is busy with another customer it could take a while to get the items you want. I feel bad because I want something from about 6 of them and I have to wait for her to do it. ‍ The employees are very nice though. The candy is awesome. Altho it's not my favorite candy shop in the Bay Area it's definitely worth visiting if you're a candy lover in that area of sf. read more

There are three reasons to love Giddy. In reverse order: 3. The store itself. It's a great location. Cute as heck. Easy to browse and impossible to walk out without, you know, candy. 2. The owner. Mary is terrific. A candy sommelier. She asked what I liked, what people in my family liked, and then made recommendations that met that like and built on it. New tastes and flavors. 1. THE CANDY. I'm a lover of things cinnamon. You know, like red hots or hot tamales. I think of them as sugar and cinnamon bombs in my mouth. The candy I got at Giddy made me realize that I'd been missing out. The candy was, I don't have a better word for it, fresh. It tasted really like good cinnamon and was spicy and wasn't so sugary you ended up with a headache. It was delicious. And I haven't even started on the chocolates or the sour candies I got for my daughter. It's now on my list of places to take out of towners, by gifts, and supply meetings. Love this candy store. Most of what's in shop are imported. They even have hard to find in US candy bars such as Violet crumble which is imported from Australia I believe, and even stock up on retro candies that were popular in the 60s, 70s, and 80s that you normally wouldn't find in candy shelves in other retail stores that stock candy. Their gummy bears aren't just standard gummy bears - they come in flavors like bing cherry, mango, and fresh strawberry. They have such a fun assortment of old-timey candies (including a huge variety of licorice, hard candies from Europe, etc.), and newer, adventurous candies (such as seasonal gingerbread gummies, or ice cream cone candies). And the chocolates and chocolate-covered candy are equally as impressive (I recommend the chocolate-covered caramel corn). Even better, the staff is super friendly and helpful. This tiny store is cute and bright and the owners are friendly. But this store seems to have an identity crisis. Is it nostalgic kiddie candy or upscale chocolate? They buy in bulk, then repackage in little plastic bags with their sticker on it. OK, but there is no list of ingredients or nutritional information on the packages. I'm not sure if this is legal. Even more of a concern for me, they don't provide the source. If I'm paying eight dollars for a little bag of chocolate, I would like to know if it is Hershey's or Recchiuti. Giddy has just opened and they have fine quality, fancy packaged candy, and generously offered samples by the friendly candy-expert proprietress, Mary, The Candy Lady. I am a tough customer, since I'm a candy fanatic and have some non-traditional requests, but if they don't have it at Giddy, Mary will order it for you. Giddy has also already donated to a dog-rescue auction, so that gives them extra points in my book. They have difficult to find specialties like salted licorice and locally sourced fair trade chocolate. Also, added bonus, the pricing is fair and the packaging is tasteful enough to give the candy as a gift, without needed to re-wrap it. Giddy Candy is fun and a candy wonderland. Amazing selection and the ability to choose a variety makes each visit different. I love spicy, so the chili pepper gummies are a favorite. If you love licorice, they have you covered with chews and squares and jelly candies. If you don't like licorice, you have almost infinite other choices. I'm a hazelnut fan, so the chocolate covered hazelnuts and the hazelnut caramels make my taste buds happy.
