I have been going to Gibson range since 2006 when I moved to Mesquite From FT Hood, back when the original owner( A WWII Vet) owned the place. Now his son and daughter own it. The rates are reasonable . I shoot all of my firearms there with no problems. After 20 years as a 11Bravo infantry platoon sergeant, this range is home to me. Bring what you need, they do take debit cards and they do have some ammo for sale. I bring my own chairs, cooler , and gun equipment. If you have a legal suppressor , you are allowed to shoot with it. My wife and I have never had any issues with this family owned range. If you can't stand the heat of the day or the rules of this small business then go to the fancy Frisco Gun Club and pay an arm and a leg to shoot in short ranges with air conditioning and have flunky instructors grabbing at your wife's or daughters. Gibson is a true John Wayne range, meaning no frills just hot metal and dirt. Leave your snowflakes to melt at home.

First time for this baby putting hits downrange at 50 & 100 yds.

Showed up to the owner telling us this range has been permanently closed. Was a bummer after driving a ways.

I love being being able to shoot out doors . But the owner can be a asshole. I guess it just depends what kind of mood he is in that day

Ask the Community - Gibson Outpost & Shooting Range

When did Gibsons reopen? I'd been told they had folded and the range purchased by Mesquite PD.

It re-opened late March 2022. It did not fold. It was sold to an individual. Mesquite PD does not own it. Come out and try it. The new proprietors are really great guys.

I'm going to give my 2 coppers based upon the class solely. The outdoor range, is an outdoor…read morerange. It's a little parcel of land and I applaud the owners for providing an entrepreneurial service where they likely don't make a ton of money. I'm sure with some time and a little more income to expand / improve this will become even more popular. The class was held at a local restaurant/convenience store party room. It's handy, comfortable enough, the instructor has his act together and there is room for discussion, levity and conversation about self-defense, when to use force, when not to, when you can but should you etc... As it's attached to a convenience store, you've access to whatever you could possibly need and the bathrooms are clean!! (for you lady folk that may consider this). The range is a short 10 min drive and breaks up the middle of class and sets up nicely for a lunch break. As far as being "tea partiers" or whatnot, I take umbrage at that statement. Not a single person in our class (including the two ladies or instructor) gave off a "shoot first ask questions later vibe" or even anything political, aside from why we're all there to exercise our 2nd amendment rights. Shooing citizens away from firearms, safety, use of force and the very consistent message that deadly force is the last option makes me question the previous review and whether they actually attended this class or not. For the record, I'm a card carrying Libertarian and have zero to do with the "tea partiers". Epic fail bringing politics into firearm safety and carry / concealed instruction in the great state of Texas.

Pros class is cheap. Easily half of what other places charge but you are getting what you pay…read morefor. The class is in what looks like a Tuff shed filled with some really uncomfortable folding chairs. It's a bare-bones set up with apparently no heat and no A/C and only ONE toilet. The parking is across the highway so wear your running shoes to keep from getting mowed down to get into the building. The classes are quite large - ours was about 50 people. There are only 3 loaner guns so you should definitely bring your own. It had rained a couple of days before and the shooting range where we had to take our shooting test was a mud pit.
